@ Joni – yes, I agree: I don’t think FE is a miler either. I think she’s a 6f filly, just like her mum – whom she looks like.
Going back over African Rose’s form, she started off over 5, then they upped her to 7 as a 2yo (all on soft). Then they kept her at 7f to start with at 3, but then brought her back to 6, and then kept her mostly at that (with one foray at < 5f). Looks like they weren’t sure either as to optimum trip, at least to begin with! Sure, she stayed 7f well enough to win on soft in lesser company at 2, but at group level she was a 6f filly. My hunch is that FE will turn out to be the same.
Toulifaut – I wish, but I fear we won’t have sufficient funds, especially for something that is a v attractive brood mare prospect. Beyond the realm of dreams, I was surprised over this. To me it suggests ‘cashing in’ whilst ahead, for – if she won the Boussac – she’d be even more valuable, so why sell now, unless they think she has maxed out on what she can achieve on the track already? I thought the same over Atty Persse tbh. If he’s really good, surely it would be a case of hang on now and sell later?
Jac: QK was disappointing today. Not sure whether that was the result of being rowed along (along with everything else) for some way to try to keep tabs on Lady A (and consequently not really seeing the trip out), or of being OTT. Whatever, she had nothing left at the real business end, albeit the distances are probably an iffy indication of relative abilities as she was ‘looked after’ by Spencer.
September 25, 2016 at 10:22 #1264730Great photos of Frankel, but he looks overweight, they need to slim him down or he will face problems.
September 25, 2016 at 15:39 #1264757Looking at the pictures of Eminent – 3 x 3 Sadler’s Wells, plus Nureyev – so 4 x 5 and 5 x 4 ND. Is it any wonder he looks like this?
Interesting to look at Jac’s pictures of Frankel as a ‘let down’ stallion – he’s very short coupled and power packed, not to mention with a big gut on him (so, he still likes to eat!). I instantly thought ‘miler/10f producer’. Seeing him looking like this led to some delving in the picture galleries, and here I find myself coming back to the ones that are around of ND himself. Frankel is a different bay (the standard bay you get from the Galileo/Danehill cross – i.e. the Ballydoyle/Coolmore ‘bay’) but look at the two of them in terms of conformation and you can see where the back end on Frankel comes from (and the tail)! Plus, the look is all ND. The comments in the link about ND’s temperament are also instructive … this is what is coming through in the progeny, but then that isn’t surprising given the number of repetitions in these current pedigrees.
Really interesting comments Titus thank you. You really need to get hold of Juddmonte Stallions Book, they gave us all a copy along with other Frankel gifts at the end of the tour fantastic A4 size pictures of all the stallions standing there along with Stallion Profile and pedigree notes back to their 3rd Dam.
They did say that Frankel really enjoys his food but I’m certain they wouldn’t let him get overweight Crepello I think it might just be that the photos make him look bigger, I’m sure you can still see a few of his ribs in the pics. Interesting to hear what Titus thinks about the way he is looking.
Joni and I had a great afternoon meeting up on Friday at Newmarket when Fair Eva ran (and sadly lost) I think we could have talked lots more but Joni had limited time and we didn’t want to miss a thing the horses were in the parade ring when we met outside the Frankel Lounge (of course). We did meet up a couple times during the course of the day to watch a race and mull over Fair Eva’s disappointing run and Joni had to leave after the Joel Stakes. We both laughed about how guilty we feel for our other halves and family with so much time devoted to racing and TRF. I’ve just rushed upstairs to post this while my husband’s mowing the lawn as after my 3 days at Newmarket he’s feeling a bit neglected… Hope to see you again next Season maybe at the Guineas Joni would be great to have a TRF get together there I know you all go off to Newbury but it’s a bit too far for me.
What a day of fortunes won and lost yesterday, it was a real treat to see Lady Aurelia in the flesh and all eyes were of course on her in the pre-parade and paddock. Frankie was up early and she was ponied to post and Frankie held her back to be last in the stalls and of course she was out and away like a flash, but as predicted the dip at Newmarket and the uphill finish were her undoing and sadly it wasn’t Queen Kindly who lowered her colours but the filly that had beaten her at Ascot Brave Anna , however did she go off at 25/1, there came that familiar ohhhhhh from the crowd as Brave Anna and Roly Poly past the post together. Lady Aurelia was eased to finish 2 lengths behind and Queen Kindly also didn’t get up the hill so left us wondering what to make of the Lowther form. I know this is the time of year when horses boil over and we get shock results so not too worried that Queen Kindly will be back to her best next season.
As Joni said what a tonic to see Mi Suerte (My Luck) winning so well in Japan, thanks Sea Bird I think we needed that after the last few days disappointment. Frankel has had over two dozen winners world wide so far this season and although he isn’t going to be top first season sire he has certainly made his mark early.
Eminent is going to be the one follow I was really pleased to hear Martyn Meade say that he was not going to bring this colt out again too quickly if at all this year as he has proved himself by winning his maiden and they are going to allow him to grow into his frame. His work rider used to work with Sir Henry Cecil at Warren Place and I feel that Martyn Meade deserves all the success with Eminent, his line of thought is very much as Sir Henry would have been thinking at this time in Eminent’s career and I really wish him all the success to win a Classic next year…Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 25, 2016 at 17:40 #1264777Does Atty Persse have a stride pattern closest to his sire of all Frankel’s youngsters to run so far? At the gallop he gets his hind legs a long way under him, and has an extravagant reach with his forelimbs which are more close together than is usual. He gives the impression that he has a longer stride for his size when in full flow. Or is it mere imagination?
October 1, 2016 at 12:05 #1265323UAE KING is entered in the EBF Stallions Oath Maiden Stakes at Nottingham (3:00PM) on Wednesday.
Fingers crossed!
October 1, 2016 at 12:59 #1265337WOW That was impressive!!
She will go home not knowing she has had a race!!
October 2, 2016 at 00:08 #1265385@ Joni – I think we would’ve struggled to ‘raise the readies’! …
http://bloodstock.racingpost.com/news/bloodstock/classy-frankel-filly-toulifaut-sells-for-1-9m/2166533/Interesting to see where she is heading (along with a fair few of these Frankel’s)
http://bloodstock.racingpost.com/news/bloodstock/yoshidas-the-new-superpower-of-breeding/1931155/Such is Frankel’s global appeal, this is inevitable – but it does mean that we might not necessarily see the best of his stock racing in the UK, or even in Europe.
October 2, 2016 at 22:00 #1265490Replay of the Boussac here:
Toulifaut may have met trouble in running but there is no way that she is in the league of the first two fillies. As I suspected, the eve of Arc sale looks to have been timed to maximise her value.
October 4, 2016 at 08:48 #1265581Frankels 3/4-parts brother and pacemaker Bullet Train has his first Stakes winner in the States on Saturday Oct 1.

October 8, 2016 at 09:57 #1266148A big day for the Mighty One. Especially after Nath’s extremely distasteful video!!!! I honestly think Churchill is there to be shot at. He is a very good horse but I feel he will be better over further and this 7f is the absolute minimum he needs. Obviously Lancaster Bomber will do his best to set it up for him but a combination of fast ground and some real 7f horses might just undo him. Obviously Seven Heavens has to step up hugely on what he has done before but JG is not the type to tilt at windows and I know this one leaves a 100+ lead horse for dead at home. He must settle a whole let better that last time but the likely fast pace should help him to do that. For me he is the colt that has so far looked most like his dad. Whether he has enough talent to go with it, only today will tell us. Elsewhere, two old stalwarts run in the form of Cunco and Frankuus. Both would have ew chances.

October 8, 2016 at 15:12 #1266248A brave and gutsy win for Frankuus in a Group 3 in France. He is an out and out galloper and seems to be improving with the extra distance. I think he will be aimed at the Criterium now.

October 8, 2016 at 15:39 #1266252Fair play to AOB and Churchill. What a beautiful horse and what a trainer. Seven Heavens pulled like a train and the contrast between Galileo’s progeny and Frankel’s in terms of temperament could hardly be more marked.

October 8, 2016 at 16:11 #1266261When you visit Coolmore, that’s what they emphasise with regard to Galileo, his temperament and ability to pass it in. And they also say that that it’s that same temperament that gives them high hopes for Australia’s future.
October 8, 2016 at 16:57 #1266271I wish “they’d” all just let for instance Seven Heavens run his race, instead of trying to force the horses to run differently from its nature, more freely. Seven Heavens could’t have done it any worse.
Best Wishes

He would have torn off though and burnt out just the same.

Is that a fact?
