It looks highly likely that EMINENT will be retired and i think that is good news for him, he clearly is not enjoying it anymore.

I hope that he will be allowed to retire gracefully and not be sent jumping. He deserves better than that.

He’s not been the same since he had that heart problem at Chester. Maybe it’s put him off.

He is a dual group winner and his owner owns a stud in New Zealand. They only have broodmares but it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see him setting up as a stallion down there. Let’s hope so anyway. I’d also be sad to see him gelded and sent jumping – especially since he doesn’t seem to enjoy racing at all now.

I hope you’re right Tonge that Eminent goes to his owners stud, it would make much more sense than risking him over the jumps and my nerves wouldn’t take it.
He deserves a happy retirement let’s hope they do the right thing….
    Happy retirement Eminent
I will never forget the first time I saw him as a gangly 2yo in the pre parade at Newmarket and he stopped right next to me and looked me in the eye, I backed him that day and he won and then went on to win The Craven the following year.
Love him to bits and wish him well. Jac :rose:

Zarkamiya given an average tactical ride by Soumillon – not sure if she would have beat the winner (who got first run whilst she was stuck in behind runners) but she would have for sure got second and I think she is still a nice prospect.

Well Monday saw some 33mm of rain fall at York making their ground now good to soft (good in places) and whilst they say it will be a largely dry fresher week there is a chance of passing showers on Thursday.

Cracksman’s team surely can’t now give the ground as an excuse for him not to run in the Juddmonte now.

Depressing thought but if this dry weather continues into the Autumn, there is a good chance we might not see Cracksman on a racecourse again, not unheard of to have quick ground at Leopardstown, Ascot & Longchamp in September/October in the past and the two Champion Stakes & Arc are really the only main races left for him now.

Gosden has today said that Cracksman won’t be seen until October, when he will either run in France or at Ascot. How disappointing this season has turned out to be!

Is it just the ground with Cracksman or is there something else ?

He’s saying it’s the ground. At Epsom it was the hills, and then the stalls, and then at Ascot it was the fillies, and now it’s the ground even though he was fine on it as a 3yo. To rule out Leopardstown and the Arc trials this early when you don’t know the weather seems strange. I think Gosden is manipulating the narrative, personally.

JG has said Cracksman goes straight to the Arc, he does not need a prep as he runs well when fresh, he also said that Enable will have a prep run in a Group 3 in September.

If all goes well then the match between them will be on.

Think it is a mistake going straight to the Arc without a run since June – will be interesting if we have a dry Autumn to see what they do as it is not unheard of for Ascot & Longchamp in October to have quick ground.

Personally I don’t think the ground was a reason for his defeat at Ascot (if a horse doesn’t go on fast ground he doesn’t finish 8L clear of the 3rd in a G1 race) and in no way would the ground at York be as quick as it was at Ascot during the height of summer (in fact the middle of last week the going report/map had a lot of good to soft areas) and judging by the first race they were making a good print in the turf.
