As from Monday horseracing in this country will change, unfortunately for the worse, all because the Minority with the Majority of power seem to think the public actually give a monkeys to how many times a horse is whipped in a race.Joe Public are far more concerned about how they will pay their winter Gas bill i can assure them that..Here’s a horse who needs 8 cracks of the whip just to get round a course, jumping the last he wont respond to hands and heels riding so what will happen to the likes of Reve de Sivola? No wonder connections are running him today! Others to follow…
October 8, 2011 at 11:56 #373408What a totally stupid post. The sooner "racing fans" like this poster leave the game the better!
October 8, 2011 at 11:58 #373410Gord,
Reve De Sivola will have to be ridden / campaigned differently, may be pushed along all the way.Nick Williams is one of the best "trainers" in the country. However, don’t think he’s done well with the placing of Reve De Sivola. To my mind he’s a stayer. So the lazy tendency is exasperated by often running at a trip that’s bound to put pressure on his speed and jumping ability. In my opinion Reve De Sivola now needs at least a strongly run 3m1f. When the new rules come in he’ll probably need even further.
However, if Reve De Sivola finds it difficult to win, then so be it. Horses who beat him are probably more genuine.
If the new rules were the old rules and the old were new….. Then we’d all be moaning. This time about those genuine horses who would NOW get beaten by less temperamentally sound individuals under a whipping drive.

Not "stupid" at all DP, just a different view point to your or my opinion. It is opinions that make this sport so wonderful.

That’s what you get when you allow "stupid" posts – someone even more "stupid" supporting them.October 8, 2011 at 12:54 #373420Good one Reet.
Even you are entitled to an opinion.

I don’t agree.
Kingfisher
‘s post reflects the general opinion of ordinary fans of racing in the UK. It also has something punchy and worthwhile to say about whether the larger "majority" of citizens gives a tinker’s cuss or not about new whip rules, old whip rules, or any whip rules at all.
We must now wait to see whether BHA fulfils its promise to Tim Morris to implement an "education" programme, to help that majority overcome its prejudice and ignorance about the whip. Don’t hold your breath…
October 8, 2011 at 13:10 #373423to suggest that Racing is doomed because jockeys are now limited to how many times they can hit a horse is stupid. It goes to show the general lack of intelligence of the "racing fan".
Jockeys will have to adapt to the new rules. The ones that can’t will disappear. The new jockeys coming through will be better riders without resorting to the stick as a first resort.

That’s what you get when you allow "stupid" posts – someone even more "stupid" supporting them. The problem with the likes of ‘Deep sensation’ and ‘Reet Hard’ are they epitomise everything wrong with their so called Racing fans, basically nodding sheep with a mentality to suit, this new whip rule is Black and White and wont suit the many Grey areas it will expose come Monday. You pair have probably been employed as ‘Counters’ by the BHA stood 100yds apart with Walkie-Talkie in hand.Mind you can they tell the difference between showing the whip and actually striking the horse down the shoulder for one.The Sh*t will hit the fan big time, sooner, rather than later!

The Sh*t will hit the fan big time, sooner, rather than later!Perhaps you could suggest how the "sh*t is going to hit the fan" because a jockey is restricted to how many times he/she can hit a horse?
October 8, 2011 at 13:16 #373427To ignore the opinion of the general public, whether real or manufactured by the media, is crass stupidity. I fear the horse racing fraternity shall reap that which it has sown over decades past.

And when everyone has stopped calling everyone else "stupid", we’re left with a situation where the majority of racing fans feel betrayed by the leadership of the sport they once loved, and now feel so sour about.
BHA and RfC may both like to imagine that alienating their once-loyal customer base (in so many ways) doesn’t matter. But when the massive, new young fan base fails to materialise on cue, can we expect an equally massive apology from these people, stuck in their ivory marketing towers? What do you think?

Excellent post and so true.
I also totally agree that the original poster has a right to his/her opinion but,I’m also wondering why someone would feel it necessary to open a new thread on this subject when we already have another long with many people expressing strongly held opinions still going strong.
October 8, 2011 at 13:27 #373433So all of you "racing fans" are going to walk away from the sport from Monday, are you? Just because a jockey can’t hit a horse as many times as he used to?
Total stupidity.

A mention on a racing forum is hardly a glowing obit. An individual has a singular purpose, whereas racing is littered with groups and individuals with their own agendas, thus racing as a whole is perceived to be fragmented, which this forum clearly proves.

I’ll give you the simplest example there is seeing how you obviously cant see the wood from the trees.
A 3m chaser reluctant to start often gets a crack or 2 to get it going, they wont count as they are before the off, they get going though and the jockey has to give him 1 crack to go with the rest of the field, they jump the first and the horse makes a mistake,he loses ground going to the second so again the whip is used, twice this time as this particular horse is renowned for being a lazy bug*er,does any horse in particular come to mind yet? He’s back on the bridle again and jumps cleanly for the next mile,up to now the whip has been used 5 times in total but only 3 counting. On the second circuit, horse very much like Reve de sivola starts to lose interest again and his jockey has to resort to the whip which incredibly to the likes of you actually encourages him on again, its taken another 2 sweeteners though to get him back in some sort of contention, thats 5 accountable strikes,we’re approaching 3 out and said horse is beginning to grab hold of the bridle and is in serious contention, one down the shoulder makes it 6 strikes jumping 2 out and he’s only 2 lengths down going to the last they are in full flight,a slight mistake and 1 big one makes it 7 strikes,up the hill they go and another 2 srikes see’s victory, both horse and Jockey have given all and the best horse has won.Jockey goes before the stewards, adrenalin pumping and is asked how many times did you strike the horse? 8 Sir,No it was 9 and for all your efforts you have just lost your riding fee and winners percentage of £5000! And thats just 1 example! -
