Personally I wouldn’t get rid of any and I love the Bumpers as it’s the only race I can watch without hiding behind the sofa. Every race has it’s merit and every lower grade race carries the hopes and dreams of smaller owners whose horses run in them. This year Tobefair is the Dream Alliance of the moment and what a result that will be if he comes home for the syndicate.
Sorry not to answer the question but that was my immediate response when seeing it…Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 11, 2017 at 12:56 #1291084That’s a very good post ginger. I have always been in two minds about the 4 vs 3 days but will say that each year I find aside from the gold cup my interest has flagged quite a bit by the Friday. I’m quite a believer in less is more.
I also believe that cheltenham sucks the energy out of the rest of the season and downscaling it might alleviate that. But it won’t happen
March 11, 2017 at 12:59 #1291085I think quevega is the best argument for getting rid of a few races. We will keep hearing about how she was a “legend” and the trainer a “genius” for ever more and it’s bollocks
March 11, 2017 at 13:29 #1291102I’m with Clive. I’ve followed racing for 40 years and for 30 of them I loved flat and jumps equally. These days I rarely watch the jumps until Cheltenham as, for me, Cheltenham IS the jumps season. It is the only week that really seems to matter. Of course I realise that for some it is precisely that which makes it so special – each to their own. Perhaps if there were less races and therefore less opportunities we might see more of the horses at other times of the year.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
March 11, 2017 at 16:41 #1291167March 11, 2017 at 22:21 #1291233Current Ryanair favourite (and previous Champion Chase winner) Un De Sceaux
Great post Ginge, I agree with vast majority of it.
The above quote though, I’m not such is right as much as I’d like it to be……
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 11, 2017 at 23:07 #1291248That was a lot of nails being hit on the head there Ginge.
We should all be here salivating over Douvan V Un De Sceaux & Altior V Yorkhill.
March 11, 2017 at 23:35 #1291255If you had the choice, which Festival race would you omit in order to improve the festival as a whole.
For me it’d be the Ryanair Chase. It’s no more than a Gold Cup consolation and all it serves to do is dilute the big race itself.
Agree with Ryanair. Already a race over the same course and distance, the same day.

Oops, meant Arkle.
Value Is EverythingMarch 12, 2017 at 12:30 #1291358For me the Ryanair would go, the mares novice would go and the martin pipe would go.
I personally love the cross country race, in fact it’s one of my favourite races of the week.
And laugh all you want, but I’d move the veterans final to the Cheltenham Festival. It’s always going to be an awesomely competitive affair without ever threatening to dilute the championship races or the other handicap chases during the week. Why not give some of these older horses a chance to be a festival winner? For me that’s one of the best qualities of the cross country races.
March 12, 2017 at 12:30 #1291359Stilvi always seems to have a chip on his shoulder. Him and Zarkava seem to think a forum gives them a platform to belittle people they consider intellectually inferior (which is pretty much everybody) and do it in the most aggressive way possible.
If forumites were animals, Stilvi would be a pitbull and Zarkava a rottweiler.
Just chill out.
Noted. Thanks
March 12, 2017 at 12:40 #1291361Well, with six races potentially on offer, Vroum Vroum Mag runs in the softest option, the Mares Hurdle.
What a surprise that is. When will they stop pretending this mare might run in something competitive?
I won’t be backing her for the mares race anyway.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

What a joke, you are bleating about a few questions and then you welcome a post that is a million times nastier than anything I posted. Good luck, the forum is welcome to people like you and the Judge.
March 12, 2017 at 14:50 #1291394Judge do you not recall some of the things you posted on another thread, you talk about a chip on someone elses shoulder you should consider yourself
You certainly need to take some of your own advice and relax
Ps havent read any of this but id keep it simple, i wouldnt get rid of any races, it dosent detract from other races all it does is gove horses a better chance of finding there optimum distance, surprised there isnt another one being added namely a hurdles race
March 12, 2017 at 16:16 #1291408It’s that ‘if you were to go back to a three-day festival, how would you do it?’ question again, isn’t it?
I’m going to do that, by getting rid of seven races.
Novices Handicap Chase (There’s the JLT, fellas. If you aren’t good enough to compete in the JLT, take yer chances in the Plate. No point to this race).
Mares Novice Hurdle (I know it’s only been run once but, really, who cares? **** Mullins, and **** Ricci, too)
The Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir (‘Hey everyone, let’s give the amateurs a race!’ – there is one. It’s called The Foxhunters. Now smeg off, and I don’t care if it’s named after the Queen Mum’s mate, it has to go)
The Fred Winter (Because, God knows, everyone is REALLY INTERESTED in a juvenile handicap. Oh, wait, they’re not! WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS RACE?????)
Cross Country (Some of the greatest matches in wrestling history have been gimmick matches. This race is still yet to give us Foley vs Undertaker in a Hell In A Cell, let alone Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs Stone Cold Steve Austin in a submissions only match. Get rid.)
The Neptune (Sorry, guys, but your horse, if he/she stays hurdling, will want to run in either the Stayers or the Champion, not the Race That Doesn’t Exist. Although it’s classy, it’s also pointless).BlueSky @pghenn.bsky.social
So don't run, just like the others always do
March 12, 2017 at 16:19 #1291410I took Judge to task last week, and got called a troll for my troubles.
Am I the only one who thinks he’s the alter ego of another poster, or if that is not the case, he has an unhealthy obsession with another poster. It has been very clear that he had it in for stilvi in particular for some reason. I wonder what that reason was.

I don’t remember this particular incident Kris, perhaps you’d care to enlighten me.
As for Stilvi it’s nothing specific, just that you know he comes across as so aggressive at times.
Him and some others I could mention are fairly insightful posters just that I feel he needs to rein it in at times
I guess the same could be applied to me as well
