A pleasant couple of days, including further evidence that you should never trust anything a jockey says!

Good to finally meet the boy Column ~ attired fittingly, although sadly not in plum coloured corduroys.

Plum corduroys? Dream on! The problem with plum as a colour is it’s not black, and for so long as that remains the case it has no home in my wardrobe.
Great to catch up with you, Rory and HJ. I suspect I’ll be trying to fit in at least one meeting next week, but quite where and when is all up in the air as yet.

November 4, 2006 at 13:12 #103136Hereford on Sunday, then onto Cheltenham for the Friday and Saturday of the PP meeting.
November 4, 2006 at 18:14 #103137Looks like I can accommodate Market Rasen tomorrow having not really considered so doing previously – Mrs Column needs me out of the flat whilst she does some coursework. Fine by me!

November 6, 2006 at 10:18 #103138Probably go to Exeter tomorrow – going to be a beautiful day. Then I’ll be at the Hennessy Newbury meeting at the end of the month – great racing.
P.S. Anybody going will be able to recognise me easily – I’ll be the guy tearing up his betting ticket before the end of each race;)

November 6, 2006 at 17:13 #103139Sadly due to a recent hectic schedule HJ has not been declared at the five-day stage for Cheltenham – most likely to be re-routed to Huntingdon a week later.
November 6, 2006 at 18:13 #103140Am all set for the Paddy Power meeting (Mackeson Gold Cup shurely ~ Ed) and looking forward to seeing a few friendly faces while there. Clap me on the back within hailing distance of the Jameson Bar and there’s a hot whiskey in it for you (unless you inadvertently spill the hot whiskey I’m trying to warm myself with at the time, of course!).
November 7, 2006 at 10:46 #103141Any idea how long it would take on public transport from the station to the racecourse Rory?
November 7, 2006 at 14:30 #103142If memory serves, there are plenty of buses shuttling to the track and it’s only a couple of miles, although traffic can be bad.
November 7, 2006 at 22:21 #103143I shall be Bob Bob Bobbin to Bangor On Dee tomorrow
November 8, 2006 at 09:32 #103144Enjoy yourself, QC. For what’s it worth I think Abraham Smith represents stonking EW value at a projected 25-1 in the beginners’ chase, for all that it’s a very good contest – he looked a fair sort for Brian Eckley last season, and current trainer Alex Hales is 3-6 with his jumpers in the last fortnight.

Did u see the Welsh National winner there today? Doesn’t look like the breathing op has or the stable switch has done much for Distant Thunder.
November 8, 2006 at 19:36 #103146Bit harsh on Distant Thunder, good run in what for a midweek day was a good quality hcap.
Anyways I’ve got a busy few days:-
Taunton tomorrow
Chelters Fri (reschedule for Sat if Taj doesn’t run Sat).
Lingers Sat if Taj runs.
November 8, 2006 at 21:46 #103147Not disputing that it’s a good run on form, they did pull 30 lengths clear of the third, but he was hacking all over the winner and didn’t find as much as looked the case turning for home. With a hike back up the weights and in a more competitive race, I won’t be interested in him.
November 8, 2006 at 22:08 #103148Think I may have seen the Welsh National winner! I thought he was disappointing last season to be honest & although I backed him today, I thought he might blow up, but he ran on strongly, Joe Tizzard says he’s matured & he gave him the best feel he’s ever done today, the Welsh National is top of the agenda
November 9, 2006 at 15:49 #103149Think I may have seen the Grand National winner 2009 run at Thurles earlier.
Thanks for the details Rory, shouldn’t be too hard to get too then but a 7am start is called for :)
November 9, 2006 at 21:04 #103150Non runner at Fakenham on Tuesday.
Bugger.
