I Am X-Ray – Pretty Rave Girl
July 13, 2008 at 21:59 #173125Any other TRFfers here going to the Latitude festival this coming week, by the way?
None? Ah well. You don’t want to be stuck in a muddy field in Suffolk with this oaf (and Mrs C) for four days. Trust me.
Anyhoo, never mind the more vaunted acts – I can’t wait to see this guy. Absolutely corking folktronica, I reckon;

‘Fraid not, Jez. Trying out the Lovebox Weekender Festival in Mile End on Sunday instead. At least if it rains we will be able to head for the nearest tube.
July 14, 2008 at 09:38 #173160LOL. You know you’ve wandered into middle age when one of your primary concerns at a music festival is much less the line-up, and much more how close to the tube ride home you are!
I stand guilty as charged on this, btw – a virtue of Latitude is that is has a supermarket on site. One will be highly affronted if it turns out not to be a Waitrose, of course…

I’m not going but it looks the best festival to goto after Bestival. I’ve given-up on Leeds/Reading.
The Comedy Stage looks good (if you like comedy at festivals, that is). Bill Bailey, Ross Noble, Rich Hall and Stewart Lee. As does the Literary Stage though I’m not sure how that works: is it a Q&A thing?
I see The House Of Love have presumably re-united too. I would see them just to hear Christine and Destroy The Heart. .
July 14, 2008 at 21:11 #173241GC by somechance did you get to see Beth Rowley?
I believe she was playing and i like her as a singer
July 15, 2008 at 09:41 #173283Latitude is this coming weekend, Neil, so I’ve not seen her or anyone as yet.
Judging by the timings on the Latitude website, she clashes with Bill Bailey on the comedy stage, so I’d have to say it’s odds against I’ll see her in the flesh!

July 17, 2008 at 14:01 #173536Sadly missing Latitude yet again, get thyself well and truly rocked by Franz and Blondie for me if you would Jeremy, next year the plan is to finally get myself to a festival.
All the obvious ones! Latitude, Glastonbury, Reading and of course Cheltenham.
Who needs to go abroad anyway?
(Currently listening to mix playlist including The Black Kids, The Ting Tings, Avenged Sevenfold, Garbage, Chillis, Biffy Clyro, Duke Spirit and Metric. A fine noise to muck the house out to.)
July 17, 2008 at 14:02 #173537Eurythmics – an oldie but a goodie
July 17, 2008 at 14:05 #173538Oh and further to my previous Festival musings, Zome, next year if you’re going to suggest Benicassim on the spur of the moment, can you please make sure that said moment is a bit more than three days before the start of a Festival that is a)in Barcelona and b) ON WHEN I’M AT WORK.
Rant over.
July 17, 2008 at 21:31 #173600I attended Domingo Roceiro for the first time on Sunday. There’s no better festival anywhere and that’s fact. Only lasted a day but i’ve never seen so many drunk Spaniards in one place – also didn’t realise there were that many gorgeous women in La Linea or that beer could be bought in big black bins with taps on, best ever and great Spanish music, dancing (modern and Flamenco) and a HUGE waterfight near Molly’s – great times
July 19, 2008 at 13:37 #173787Is that a piccie of you halfway up a glacier, KT?
July 19, 2008 at 18:14 #173828Does anyone know the name of the following track? Admittedly someone has just recorded it on their phone and the quality isnt great but love it_

Despite drifting away from dance music at about the turn of the millenium and becoming about 95% indie since then, over the last fortnight or so I have found myself back loving the electro-ish break sort of scene at the minute.
Still stuck in post-party-pergatory from that festival last weekend and back to work on monday, not loooking forward to that one bit.
July 19, 2008 at 21:39 #173853Looking forward to Norman Jay’s Good times 8 London
Now thats my idea of dance music…not some road drill going 300 bpm
July 19, 2008 at 22:50 #173875What about

or

probably about 130 bpm at the highest points. Quite liking this sort of sound at the minute.

Soz, Zoz – much as I like them, as soon as I found out that Franz Ferdinand’s set clashed with that of the mighty world fusion act Amadou and Mariam, I’m afraid there was only going to be one outcome. There’s no footage of either set on that there Youtube as yet, but for the uninitiated, here’s some Amadou and Mariam footage from 2005;

As for Blondie… veeeeeeeery mixed feelings about their set. It’s grand that Debbie Harry still exudes so much joie de vivre on stage, and the band is of course as tight as a gnat’s chuff after three decades plus in the business.
However, her voice has absolutely gone. Shot to bits. Beyond economic repair. Her range barely stretches beyond an octave now, so the likes of “Heart of Glass” represented something of a trial both for her and the audience. They still drew the biggest audience of the weekend away from the main stage, but I’m afraid I left them to it at two-thirds distance and caught the last half of Wave Pictures instead;

I understand Mark Hollis has retired from the music industry.
A sad loss. A great talent, a great band, to whom the likes of Sigur Ros owe a great deal.
Check out the album version of this – beautiful.
Agree on all counts. Sigur Ros were mighty at Latitude, by the way, playing a set that ate the whole of Suffolk just as the sun went down. Very, very special.
