Won by Mrs Danvers last season, it was a profitable race for me. I am hoping I can hit the winner again this season with De Bruyne Horse.
Richard Hannon’s colt was apparently fancied on debut but never got into it. However, he mad no mistake in taking his field apart next time.
I fancied him strongly going into the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom and he came through to collar the leader, Cardsharp in the closing stages.
In the Coventry, De Bruyne Horse was held up and never got involved. Connections mused that the move was a mistake and stated that he would be allowed to go on when he next ran.
De Bruyne Horse was certainly more aggressively ridden in the Railway Stakes at The Curragh and was just about in front at the halfway point. However it started getting hard work and in the final furlong he tired and dropped down to finish 4th, behind Beckford, a horse I had nominated as one to follow but didn’t back on the day, the promising Bolger Horse Verbal Dexterity and the Coventry 3rd Murillo.
It was mooted almost immediately that De Bruyne Horse would drop to 5F on his next start and that is what is happening.
Looking back to De Bruyne Horse at Epsom, it was his fastest test and he beat Cardsharp in good style in the Woodcote. Cardsharp later ran 3rd in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes before winning the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket. That makes De Bruyne Horse the one to beat in my opinion.
He’s had more runs than most and he has the weight to carry but there is no substitute for class and at 6/1 I waded in on my old pal. I feel he will be hard to beat and we have Ryan Moore on board to help.
I’ve had a good bet and I’ll be disappointed if he can’t see this field off in the type of race the stable excels in.
3.35 Newbury Saturday De Bruyne Horse 6/1 You know it makes sense.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 18, 2017 at 23:31 #1310583Thought exactly the same Steve and got him on the exchanges at a fair price earlier. Looks a knocking bet
July 19, 2017 at 09:37 #1310693I too have backed De Bruyne Horse at 6/1 (missed the 7s by minutes) for the exact same reasons and am pretty confident it’ll beat SP.
I’ve also backed Snazzy Jazzy at 12/1 to continue the brilliant time his trainer is having. He cruised through his maiden win at Goodwood and commanded his field well late on considering it was the colt’s very first run. He drops back a furlong for this, seems a definite runner and has been given a 50 day break since his debut.
July 20, 2017 at 12:12 #1310787“Richard Hannon has confirmed De Bruyne Horse an intended runner in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury on Saturday…..”
Not been declared
July 20, 2017 at 12:23 #1310791Must be the ground. It’s not going to be any better than good-soft on the day and De Bruyne’s best form has come on a quick surface. But then the likes of Spark Plug and Magical Memory have been left in their races and they’re very much dependent on quick ground.
July 21, 2017 at 20:44 #1310926After all that neither of my bets run. I wonder why I bother.
Backed Maggies Angel just to try and win my money back and nothing more.
July 21, 2017 at 23:01 #1310939Requinto dawn at 22s is a fair price, if the gelding operation helps him focus more, i think he may return to show earlier promise
Worth a small punt at the price for me
Jockey bookings suggest otherwise, but the bigger field may help him. Will be laying the short favourite anything under 5/1
July 21, 2017 at 23:53 #1310950Normally 24 two year olds, some of which have only run once or twice, charging over
5f is not something I’d like to hang my hat on, but I do like the look of Willie
Haggas’s ONE FOR JUNE. She was a bit unlucky not to get a clear
run 2nd time out at Newbury, finishing well in 4th beaten under 2 lengths. She
made no mistake next time out at Lingfield 10 days ago, albeit in a 5 runner egg
and spoon race, but she quickened well when asked to after leading from the off,
suggesting there’s maybe more to come from her. 16/1 seems
decent value, particularly with Skybet offering a pretty amazing 6 places !!.
She’s been running over 6 furlongs, but with the ground at present Good To Soft
(which will suit her) and some rain forecast, I think that could be to her benefit.
Just be aware that if the ground put a few of these off, and if there are less than
20 runners, then the 6 places wont stand.July 22, 2017 at 00:01 #1310952Please go on betfair Ham… and offer to lay Maggies Angel @ 5/1, p-l-eeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaa-s-e.
I think 7/2 is a good price and wouldn’t lay 5/2.
I backed her last time out at Newmarket. Almost won despite coming up the middle of the track. Other races on he day dominated by the stand side rail. Bit concerned about the drop back to 5f, but soft ground should make it less of a speed test.
Value Is EverythingJuly 22, 2017 at 00:24 #1310958I am on two in this LADY ANJORICA 14/1 and PURSUING THE DREAM 20/1 both with skybet 6 places!!
Both of these ran decent races at Royal Ascot and deserve a chance in this!!

I’m on Time Trail who has won both of his start to date including the most recent win over your filly Lady Anjorica.
Not a race I will ever play big in but have had a crack at 14/1 here.

Maggie’s Angel is my main bet @ 3.77/1.
Don’t want to invest too much in a two year old race like this on very soft ground. So instead of two or three main bets have just saved on three others:
Corinthia Knight had some good early season form; disappointed at Ascot since – 5 1/2 lengths 9th in the Windsor Castle. However, that was on very firm and sire Society Rock loved soft ground. Dam’s progeny usually go on it too. Corinthia Knight is yet to race on a soft surface. Trainer Archie Watson in fantastic form. 12/1 saver.
Debutantes Ball is another by Society Rock. 3 1/4 lengths 5th to Zonza in a Group 3 in France last time looks good form. Drawn 20 could be a problem, but it’s less easy to predict on soft. 16/1 saver.
Fallabelle is my other saver. By Choisir, who you wouldn’t associate with soft ground; but Fallable was (demoted in to) third on her only start on 28th June. Kevin Ryan had to shut up shop with equine herpes in the middle of June and Fallable could easily come on a lot for that run. 18/1 saver.Value Is EverythingJuly 22, 2017 at 13:37 #1311055Corinthia Knight and Debutantes Ball for me at 12/1 and 14/1…
Good luck everyone!
July 22, 2017 at 14:30 #1311067Went for a couple in this, and that 6 places is bonus.
I like the look of Falabelle at Carlisle, and had a few pounds each way at the 16’s, and also think Bengali Boys is overpriced, so same bet on him at the price.
