Cartmel is today’s principal meeting on a bank holiday Monday, can’t wait to watch on ruk but shame it’s not on ch4,after all they do cover chester!
May 26, 2014 at 14:26 #480256Gotta love that sticky toffee pudding, though.
May 26, 2014 at 16:34 #480259Has anyone been to Cartmel? I always enjoy watching racing from there and it looks like a beautiful course but i believe that the viewing is awful.
For me i will only go racing if i can watch all the action in the flesh. If i want to watch racing on a tv screen i’ll do it in the comfort of my own home.

I’ve heard the same thing, the atmosphere is amazing but the viewing is terrible. Still would love to go there one day
May 26, 2014 at 20:08 #480276Best viewing place I could find was the mound at the southern end of the track, which I suspect is a reservoir. You can see all 6 fences and 3 hurdles though the finish tends to be a bit of a mystery! Needs a bit of legwork to get up and down the course to the paddock and I suspect that would be tough on a busy day. Viewing from the rocky outcrop near the last hurdle isn’t bad and you can see most of the course, though it does tend to be a prized spot. Owners and trainers get the best spots on the grandstand.
Not the best course for watching the sport but the place definitely ‘has something’.
We stayed at the Coach House, one of various accomodation options at Longlands near Cartmel village. Expensive for the busier meetings but not so bad for the mid-summer meetings.

May 26, 2014 at 20:48 #480278I cannot think of a worse track for viewing. If you are in the stand you can only see the horses jump 3 fences as the rest of the time they race behind you.
Better now with the big screen but why go to watch on the telly.
Good day out something to do once but neever again. - AuthorPosts
