Irish racing returns and if yesterdays meeting at punchestown was anything to go by many of the fancied English runners can stay in their boxes this winter wrapped up in cotton wool.
    Naas kicks off at 1205
    FLAME BEARER
    Debuts for Willie Mullins.
Last seen at punchestown last April a seven length second to Mullins state man in a grade 1 hurdle.
He goes chasing now and on his sole pointing start was a runner up but 31 lengths clear of subsequent decent chaser Pay the piper.
    (137 OR)
Reported to be working well at home, he has his work cut out here but should be good enough and the 5/4 about a five lengths+ win is worth a go.
    Naas 1205
    FLAME BEARER
    To win by 5+ lengths @ 5/4

Unbeaten in two novice hurdles ( rated 147)
Certainly not the finished article and both Gordon Elliott and Henry De Bromhead have viable alternatives here. But if flame bearer can kick on here, the world’s his lobster 🦞…

He couldn’t kick on and Racheal Blackmore on a horse I backed that fell last time takes the race in her stride. Journey With Me.

Willie Mullins second newcomer of the day and this runner should fare better than flame bearer.
    IMPAIRE ET PASSE
    Win
Won a french bumper over the derby trip and was sold into the Mullins yard at sales (grade 1 sales). A clear round of jumping should see this runner win comfortably. A large field of maidens here and likely that Gordon Elliott has the main threat here.

Nothing above September power should get into this if he can defy his penalty but Russian rumour is well handicapped.

No joy with the tricast.but Willie Mullins horse was impressive and could be anything.

    JILLY COOPER
    Win
Was very unlucky to run into manafith last time and that one looked different class.
Mark Johnston turns her out again within ten days and on that showing may prove hard to beat as she stayed on well.

Just got home up the hill here in a bumper.
A good winner over points previously and faces Ebha grace and law Ella here but just might get the better of them over the trip.
    An out and out stayer.

    OZZIE MAN
    Win
Yard has won this twice in recent times.
Local track and this runner two from two in chases. Six pound rise may not stop him. Jamie Moore gets the ride in preference to taking weight off the horses back. A good indicator.

Jim bolger bred and just might be ready to strike after a few runs. Top weight here.

    POCKLEY
    Win
Won a class three last visit here off three pound higher mark. Met ‘trouble’ at Southwell latest
Drops in grade and really should do this from stall 1 under Mulrenhan who is on a hat trick of wins on horses he had never ridden before today. Won on a 6/1 shot backed in from 80s in a place.
    ****
POCKLEY missed the break badly and still managed third. Two nice Irish winners and a winning trifecta for the soul selection.
    IMPAIRE ET PASSE
    HALKA DU TABERT
Should both be making waves in the spring.
Not only did POCKLEY miss the break but the last two races were intrinsically linked by two jockeys both races conspicuous by their absence! Connor Beasley and Paul Mulrenhan. One an innocent 😇 party the other…
Bluff a non runner in the penultimate race allowed herakles the space and free energy to go clear under Paul Mulrenhan. POCKLEY not only missed the break in the last but found trouble in running as often happens with this jockey. Clever but not at all subtle. This allowed Connor Beasley to win well on a horse who had never won over the trip previously. The fact that pockley an innocent party forced his way back into the race making up twelve or more lengths to be third shows just how clear the horse was in ability. Put a different jockey on board and the horse likely wins by a minimum of a nose. Difficult to lose but a way was found.

    STRIVE FOR GLORY
    Win
Strive for glory is noted for winning in Ireland a few years ago in a listed race for Newmarket trainer Robert Cowell off 98.
He has had plenty of runs in Hong Kong since and made the breakthrough recently over six furlongs.
Today champion jockey Zac Purton rides him for the first time and drawn wide he may be able to strike late in the home straight.
He is not quite the group horse in a handicap but has dropped many pounds in the ratings and runs here under 40. I won’t be backing this runner as he will go off a short price but I am interested in the outcome.
