It’s adjacent to Charlie Appleby’s yard so presumably used as an extension or overflow from that, although any confirmation of that is difficult. Certainly it would make sense given the Godolphin connection. Others more familiar with Newmarket may know more.

That makes me a little sad if true. A lot of history in that place, to say the least.

A tweet from 2020 including a video with a former employee:

The yard doesn’t appear to have been used at that time though appears to be well kept.

Thanks for the update folks :good:

Shame to see this historic yard not in active use as a racing stable. Don’t want to see serial underachiever Saeed bin Suroor installed there mind

Visited Warren Place in 2016 when Lady Jane Cecil was in residence it was the most beautiful retreat and the horses would walk through a tree covered pathway to the gallops where you encountered stunning views from the top of Warren Hill and the spire of Ely Cathedral could be seen in the far distance. It was Sir Henry’s favourite place to seek solitude during his time there..

I believe the house itself is Grade 1 Listed and has not been touched but would have loved it to have been preserved as a visitor attraction for Racing heritage. The Stable that Frankel occupied during his time there was very lowly but he would never be moved as his old stable was perfectly positioned for a nosey horse like Himself. Apparently every morning he would pop his head over his stable door ideally located to watch the fillys going for early morning gallops. When they did try to give him a posh new stable he kicked up such a fuss they feared he would injure himself and had to return him to his old pad. :rose:
I guess that’s gone now seeing the new stable block that has been built. What a shame.

At the time it was being ‘done up’ I drove past and there was an old, pink ‘Warren Place’ sign screwed to the wall outside the main gate, or what was once the main gate, the gate on the main road. I thought about going and getting a screwdriver and just unbolting it but while I was contemplating this and generally mooching aimlessly about while the idea took shape a big, burly security guy appeared, unthreateningly but with just a hint of purpose so i scooted off. I then e-mailed Godolphin to enquire whether they had any plans for it and, if not, could I have it.

    and here it is…..

not. Never heard back from them and the sign is no longer there. Maybe somebody else had the same idea as me. I have a picture of it somewhere though.
