That would be the same Greg Dyke who gave £50,000 to the Labour Party shortly before he was appointed Director General.
Funnily enough, I don’t recall any of the commentators who are getting upset about the current BBC Chairman being too upset about that…
March 11, 2023 at 19:32 #1638597Fair comment, CAS – I still think he’s right on this point, though, even though his motives for what he said are open to question.

March 11, 2023 at 21:06 #1638611I wonder if Starmer, Thornberry et al in the Labour Party now regret initially suggesting Lineker went too far.
Starmer’s so obsessed with trying to secure the biggest Labour landslide since 1997 he perhaps isn’t always reading the national room.
He might be able to support the likes of Lineker (and even Lynch) on some level and still win.

March 11, 2023 at 22:14 #1638617Would it be that hard to find people capable of doing the BBC top jobs who aren’t closely affiliated with and donors to any political party? It really shouldn’t be the case that any of them have a close relationship with any party.
Had to laugh at Sunak’s statement that it’s not a government matter.

standing on me headMarch 11, 2023 at 22:51 #1638623No presenters, no commentary on MOTD – a Chezza dream.
Just shows what can be done though – 20 minutes long condensed from the usual hour+ shows how much bollocks is usually talked on the show.
March 11, 2023 at 23:10 #1638625Homer’s not wrong – sadly, however, Chezza never watches it anyway.

March 12, 2023 at 07:27 #1638642It’s a bizarre world we live in when a tweet by a former footballer takes over the news agenda for days. What he actually said is factually correct and I marvel at how all sides bar Lineker himself have so not read the the room. I hope this wakens up folk to just the total nonsense of the culture wars and how morally bankrupt the current govt is. God knows how the bbc extricate themselves from a mess of their own making. Sacking sharp and davie would be a start and then appointing folk with no political affiliation so they can truly be impartial. Its totally farcical having two huge supporters of the tory party lecturing anybody on impartiality.
March 12, 2023 at 07:50 #1638643Sadly most can’t see the smokescreen of ” Stop the boats ” is merely being invoked to try and catch the vote of those once in a lifetime Tory voters who voted Tory last time because of Brexit , ” Get Brexit done ” , ” Stop the boats ” one and the same , it’s the dumbing down of politics where the Home Secretary can stand up in the chamber and pollute it with made up numbers and get away with it …

March 12, 2023 at 08:35 #1638644An explanation of the govts policy from a legal point of view (and some clear up on whether they are illegal and on claiming in the first country)
Very useful for those who may read the daily mail/express or telegraph (or consume media from other inaccurate sources)
March 12, 2023 at 09:32 #1638647Well I watched MOTD this morning which was 20 mins long, and my hope is people are thinking I’ve actually got back an hour of my life.
Hearing there’s live women’s football on BBC2 at lunchtime, hope that extends to this programme too.
Women’s commentary on football is the worst.March 12, 2023 at 10:39 #1638652I imagine the people in charge of the premiership maybe slightly annoyed to ….. Money talks
