In a nutshell. They can’t win elections on policies so outrage the only thing they have left. The bitterness and division they cause collateral damage to them.
March 12, 2023 at 12:27 #1638689Deaf and the blind won’t have got much out of the highlights of the football last night.
The gravy train commentary was not missed, but it’s absence should have made the coverage longer not shorter.
Each pundit pulls in a fortune, and as a luvvie, creams off similar amounts from Skybet and sky through doing the same gig and through advertising and none of them are going to rock the boat.
Each and everyone of us has a right to free speech, trouble is if your soapbox is made of soggy cardboard you won’t be up there for too long. But the cult of celebrity means you float up there for a little longer….March 15, 2023 at 11:58 #1639411Interesting reaction by viewers!
Viewing figures for Saturday without GL & co were half a million higher than the previous Sat,food for thought?
There was an article not too long ago about the amount paid to pundits and Alan Shearer was quoted as receiving £600k multiply this several times over adjusted for their profiles and you are talking very serious money for expressing an opinion on twenty odd people kicking around a football.
(I have seen no despite made of the figure quoted above)
As long as I can force myself to watch (muted) intend to time the segment devoted to actually showing football this coming Sat.
good luck to allMarch 15, 2023 at 13:26 #1639442My guess is that will be non regular viewers tuning in out of curiosity.
I never watch it myself and saw no reason to change that last Saturday.
I instead proudly boycotted a show I never watch anyway in support of free speech!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 19, 2023 at 12:48 #1640629Although I recognized the presenter as one of those who went on strike, hope the BBC at the very least withheld any payments while he and others refused to work normally over a spat that had nothing to do with themselves.
Could this have been considered as ‘secondary’ action and be breaking employment law?
A argument for another day I think.
Anyway the two sitting beside him (all muted) I didn’t know and were drafted in because of the F A Cup match earlier I assume.Wonder how many thousands that game cost them in pundit fees?
Through a great feat of willpower managed to sit, can’t bring myself to say watched as that would be lying, and time the length of football shown.Overall it lasted 41 minutes but this did include replays and other things so timing can be considered off by a few minutes. The programme was listed as being broadcast for 1 hour 20 mins thus roughly it was split 50/50 between football and incessant banal chatter.
There’s over an hour of my life lost to something I could quite happily live without but however I do accept others find pleasure in watching sport as we do horse racing.
