Yeah i agree vtc, if he can translate that flat form to a hurdle, he cant be far away, but as a few of these ballydoyle to jp/ types have proven in the last two seasons it hasnt been all that successfull for them.

Would much rather he went to ian williams and thats nothing against joseph!

He’ll win his first few easy when he’s classy enough to get through them. Wait till he is up against some of the actual proper 2mile hurdlers IMO and he’ll get found out- could be wrong of course but don’t like 2mile flat horses over 2mile hurdles…..Ivanovich G proved me wrong but sure

Not a fan of the race usually guys, but really just a small bit of interest, as was so impressed with him on the flat. I would definitely share your concerns as well.

I have to say I’m very much looking forward to SE’s debut (27th at Leopardstown). I saw him in the pre-parade at Ascot and remarked to an industry paddock watcher that I could see this horse having a big future over timber. He thought I was a bit mad saying (as he was with AOB) the horse would probably have he’s sights set on a flat staying campaign. I guess he might end up a dual purpose horse although JPM doesn’t tend to have many flat runners.

To Jackh & VTC – this horse really took my eye at Ascot, has real size & scope and wouldn’t be your typical classy flat recruit. I’d go as far to say he might even end up over the bigger obstacles.

You might well be holding a value ticket if you’ve taken the 20’s or 25’s for the Triumph.

A good jockey doesn't need orders and a bad jockey couldn't carry them out; so it's best not to give them any.

That’s interesting Orabist- one thing I’d say is I don’t think the traditional Triumph horse is big scopey horse, but it’s certainly worth noting!

To clarify jackh I only meant that he appears to have the size & scope to make a career over timber and that he doesn’t strike me as the sort of horse you described in your post of the 23rd December.

My point about proper 2mile hurdlers- was more relating to the fact i think he’ll be better over further. I tend to follow the lines that if a horse is a stayer on the flat, they won’t be at their best over the minimum trip over obstacles.

Get Jack’s point totally, but not too sure Sir Erec’s best distance was 2 Mile on the flat. Best performance without a doubt though.

Certainly if he can jump a hurdle  he would bring quite a bit of good flat form to the table that has not been seen for quite a while.

Off the top of my head the 3 best flat recruits i can ever recall were probably Royal Gait ( Gold Cup Winner ), Alderbrook ( 12 F ) and Houses of Parliament ( 3 rd St. Leger )

She might end up in the Mares Novice, ultimately she might not go to the festival at all, but I’ve just watched La Sorelita win in France during the summer and bloody hell…Mullins has one there. Really, really likeable.

Maybe she needs the run but 6-1 for the Leopardstown 1.10 today looks yummy.

Point taken Jackh; but as Botchy points out Royal gait was a GC winner and being a thorough flat stayer didn’t stop him.
SE’s win, albeit on testing ground, in listed company over 1.5 miles stacks up pretty well; 2nd & 3rd both rated around 108. I just think, given his relative inexperience and progressive profile, that he’s transfer to JOB in the JPM silks speaks volumes.

I’m not a regular AP punter but I’ve decided to back my hunch/judgement and have had a small bet at 20’s with B365. Time will tell, as they say.

Is Jacob injured ? His left arm is very straight, not really driving the horse in a finish and he’s not given Adjali a great ride there at all.

I noticed it at Hexham earlier this month and he looks awkward in the saddle during s finish

Quel Destin looking a very solid bet in this. I put a few quid on him after he beat Cracker Factory earlier in the season and that’s looking a reasonable bet right now. I was really impressed with his battling qualities at Chepstow beating Adjali into second (just). He doesn’t seem to do too much in front but you’ve got to love a horse that battles for their jockey. I have a suspicion there might be one out there that proves too good – perhaps Sir Eric – but Quel Destin’s form looks very solid and Paul Nichols looks rejuvenated.

Quel destin has that rare quality that when challenged he keeps finding more. Makes you think we may not have seen the best of him yet. Agree CHC adjali looked like he would pass him with ease and just couldn’t get past. I think those 2 would be closely matched again and if I was Daryl Jacob I would Challenge Quel Destin On the opposite rail! Stay well away from the horse otherwise he will keep finding haha

I’d expect Adjali to reverse the form with Quel Destin. Won’t be a straight duel in a Triumph and Adjali already has finished ahead of QD twice on the flat in France. It’s a shame Chaille-Chaille won’t entre Beaumec De Houelle for the race as he would be my pick.

I was disappointed that Adjali wasn’t able to press on and beat Quel Destin. My concern is he looked like he would cruise past with ease but didn’t. I don’t think it was a particularly good ride from DJ – i think he got into a battle earlier than he needed to, if I am being picky.
