Vote for your five all-time favourite hurdlers and ensure your favourites get into our TRF Hurdlers Hall Of Fame.
Vote between now and same time next Sunday when the inductees into our inaugural TRF Hurdlers Hall Of Fame will be announced.
November 20, 2011 at 16:03 #378859Hardy Eustace is a shocking omission. How are Rooster Booster, Brave Inca and Harchibald included ahead of him? Makes no sense.
Galmoy was far superior than some of the stayers included/

November 20, 2011 at 17:11 #378867Night Nurse was the best that I ever saw with my own eyes
November 20, 2011 at 19:38 #378897Istabraq for being the best hurdler ever
Persian War for his achievements despite being messed about.
Monksfield and Night Nurse for being the best of the golden age of hurdling; they never ducked a battle.
Dawn Run for being the only one to do the treble, Irish, English and French champion hurdles.
How can I leave out Golden Cygnet; probably would have been the best.
BTW one of the great things about this forum was finding how to track down footage of Golden Cygnets races; thanks Cormack, thanks everybodyNovember 20, 2011 at 20:12 #378901Beech Road was my favorite but that’s because I got 50/1 when he won the 1989 champion hurdle. On the list the are quite a few See You Then and Istabraq are 2 I’ve voted for.

November 20, 2011 at 22:04 #378913Very difficult choice.
I plumped for Night Nurse, Istabraq, Monksfield, Sea Pigeon and potentially the best of all – the ill-fated Golden Cygnet.
Some of the older members would contend that Sir Ken was every but as good as any of them but I can only go with the ones I actually saw.

November 22, 2011 at 19:06 #379215I’ve mostly picked from the ‘Golden Age’ – Monksfield (naturally), Persian War, Night Nurse, Comedy Of Errors, plus………dear old Harchibald
November 22, 2011 at 23:12 #379258I think that if the old memory serves me correctly that Night Nurse was the highest rated ever by Timeform. Does anyone know who had the highest official rating (if they existed over the whole period).
I agree that Golden Cygnet could have been an all time great, bless him.November 23, 2011 at 21:53 #379394Was surprised no mention of Big Bucks on the list! Not that he’s a favourite but is certainly a very very very good hurdler!
My favourite from the list is dear old Rooster Booster. Sometimes racing is not all about being the best, its about being the most enigmatic or the most unlucky. Rooster Booster, forever the Bridesmaid never the bride, running placed in many top Handicap hurdles (Pierse Hurdle, Imperial Cup, Tote Gold Trophy (Twice), before winning the 2002 County Hurdle. The next 12 months saw a staggering progression of confidence and exuberance that culminated in an awesome display in the Champion Hurdle of 2003. The race was nowhere near as good as other champion hurdles past or since but the way he sluiced through the field before "Running all over this leader Intersky Falcon" – as Simon Holt put it without a hint of understatement – and powering up the hill will live in my mind for a long time. He was a tremendous hurdler, very quick over the obstacles. A real joy to behold that Tuesday in March 2003!
