Of the trainers that I like / support I would go for Hughie Morrison , Clive Cox and Bryan Smart.
Mark Johnston seems to be a “Marmite” trainer , as you seem to either love him or hate him.
I cannot fathom his runners personally.
Other trainers that I would avoid would be Jonjo and Hobbs.June 21, 2021 at 06:07 #1547084As I’ve said numerous times Sandy Thomson chasers are a licence to print money , look at the stats over last 5 years , Jim Goldie rarely has one winner and when in form is worth putting in multi,s , he,s just as fond of e.w punts at big prices to , Scots sonnet is going to be one of these shortly , I love Fahey to has he,s given me a few fruitful multis over the years
June 21, 2021 at 06:09 #1547085Should also say it’s telling that foster had horses over at Hexham yesterday , the stable love Perth but have rarely visited here before , they,ll make hay through the summer with the horses on the lower rung of the yard
July 23, 2021 at 20:42 #1551703“Nigel Tinkler, though I only analyse sprints so don’t have an opinion of him with milers and above.
Citron Major will hopefully be placed to win in the next few weeks.”Five weeks later, won at a handy price. Knows what he is doing, does Mr Tinkler.
July 28, 2021 at 14:24 #1552356Mel Rowley definitely one to keep on the right side of.
Tim Easterby I like on his Southern raids particularly in soft ground Nurserys.
July 28, 2021 at 20:30 #1552415O’Meara is having a cracking season , I thought he had a quieter year last year so he prob had some well handicapped horses , ditto Goldie and in the south Balding had some nice winners to , Bangkok got me out a hole on Saturday , looking towards to jump season i said previously Twiston Davies had a quiet time of it last season , he normally throws plenty of horses at the Perth meetings but he,s been very quiet , as long as there no issues in the yard I reckon he,ll have some nicely handicapped horses come the end of the summer/new season , I’ll be interested in what the plan is for ridersofthestorm
July 28, 2021 at 22:38 #1552428david menuisier is very good at improving horses
July 29, 2021 at 10:03 #1552456It’ll be interesting to see how the Tizzards perform this season. Well below par last year but there were family tragedies to take into account. Could have some well handicapped horses heading towards autumn. I always think they start the season better than they finish it too.
July 29, 2021 at 10:04 #1552457I’m quite fond of Tom Dascombe with 2 year olds in big races.
July 29, 2021 at 17:05 #1552527Tizzard has had a good summer inc a 33-1 winner on the flat , the yard need some good novices to come through though , got to mention Robyn Brisland as well , plenty winners over the last 2 weeks , many at nice prices , 2 year old finished 2nd today at goodwood at 66s
July 29, 2021 at 20:30 #1552565Tizzard peaked 2015/16. Been in decline since and won’t reach those heights again.
I’d have Mark Johnston as one of the best trainers around but definitely not one for punters.
That sums him up. I seem to have a knack of picking the wrong horse when he has 2 or more runners in a race.July 30, 2021 at 00:25 #1552607Agree Ghost like the first race at Goodwood today. Everyone all over King Frankel and up pops Sheika Hissa’s Qaader with Buick aboard and it’s running again in the 3.00 today.
Subjectivist was my best win this year with Johnston. Horses like Hochfield and Rochester House regularly win an occasional race but it’s knowing when they will turn up.
All the Johnston horses are immaculately turned out and love the tartan waistcoats worn by the team a very smart brand

Not a great fan of Roger Charlton and tend to avoid his horses.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 30, 2021 at 06:10 #1552622With Joe taking over the yard I reckon the tizzards will be fine , let’s face it in 5 to 10 years time Skelton is going to be the champion trainer , he just needs that 1 superstar horse to get on the final rung of the ladder , Murphy needs to increase the quality of his horses but there,s no doubt he,s a talented trainer to , we,ll also need to see what happens at seven barrows
July 30, 2021 at 08:09 #1552629I think Skelton will be champion trainer in the next two to three years HDLG.
August 1, 2021 at 06:52 #1553007I’m pretty much a jumps only man.
I avoid at all costs, Olly Murphy, Christian Williams, Sam Thomas, David Pipe (would he have ever made it without Dads rich history) and unless something interesting, Micky Hammond.
My favourites are:
Kim Bailey
Venetia WilliamsI also support, but to a lesser extent, Fergal O’Brien, Alex Hales, Paul Webber, Johnny Farrelly, Oliver Greenhall, Nigel Hawke and Jamie Snowdon.
Martin Keighley is rising and the Newland runners are reasonably consistent.
I used to follow Alan King, but he seems to be wilting over jumps, these days.
Never quite got the hang of Jonjo’s runners and the same applies to Nicky Henderson, although I have had a little success with his runners in the last 12 months.
August 1, 2021 at 08:06 #1553012King is purposely wilting over the sticks. He is transitioning to the flat, he said as much in an interview a while ago.
BUY THE SUN
August 1, 2021 at 14:41 #1553073Yes, I think I saw that. IIRC, he said he wished he’d edged towards the flat training side sooner.
