GC hero Imperial Commander 4/5 for this. GC winners and placed horses haven’t gone on to win this race thus far (KS and Denman), and as an alternative I fancy Nacarat to run well on a more favourable track where he’s gone well before (last year). 4/1 is decent with 5 going to post.
April 6, 2010 at 17:52 #287983I like the look of Nacarat, too – at 5s, he’s too good to miss.
In fact, I also like What A Friend at around 3s, so I might split my bets.
Really don’t think The Imp’s gonna win this one!

So don't run, just like the others always do
April 6, 2010 at 17:59 #287985At the likely odds of IC, its a similar scenario to Big Bucks – quite prohibited unless you’re hugely confident, so might as well go for something bigger. Aintree is obviously a whole different ball game to Cheltenham and is notorious for outsiders springing up.
April 6, 2010 at 21:47 #288083Agree with what you guys have said but it’s really disappointing that only 5 go to post don’t you think?
It’s usually Denman and Kauto that scare people off and I think a number of horses have missed a trick here.
Should still be a cracking race but would have loved to see the likes of Barbers Shop, Notre Pere, Killyglen, Planet Of Sound etc line up here…..
April 6, 2010 at 21:52 #288085Notre Pere around the Mildmay course Ben?
He’d be outpaced after two fences. At least he has half a chance of getting soft ground & a galloping/staying track at Punchestown.
April 6, 2010 at 22:58 #288113Personally, I think IC is a good price. 4/5, c’mon!!!
I don’t know why there is the negativity about him unless connections know something the majority of us don’t.
On form he is different gravy.
Stick him in a treble with Big Buck’s and Barca to win Champions League at Evns!!
Zip
April 6, 2010 at 23:37 #288121I’d prefer it if IC didn’t run at all, to be honest. There’s no such thing as an easy Gold Cup and so many horses have come to grief at Aintree. Hope I’m wrong, though.
April 6, 2010 at 23:47 #288123I got worried when I read BB mentioning Money Trix elsewhere. Thankfully, he isn’t running. I can easily imagine that one killing itself at Aintree . . .

First 3 in the King George have good recordNacarat it is then Not been more confident about a selection in a very long time. IMO he’ll absolutely hack up.

Yeah Notre Pere was maybe pushing it a bit IC
Punchestown much more his course.
Still the 5 runners is a poor show.
April 7, 2010 at 09:05 #288166I’m sticking to the premise that Cheltenham victors have a poor record in this particular festival and are not suited to Aintree. For these reasons I’ll probably be opposing most, and considering a lot of runners are coming back after only 3 weeks from tough races, including IC (who I adore), I will opt in favour of those either not given too hard a time at Cheltenham or those who have targeted Aintree instead. Nacarat meets one of those criteria and should be primed for a tilt at this after a brave effort in the Racing Post Chase.
April 7, 2010 at 10:25 #288188Very brave of those who want to oppose "The Gold Cup Winner" in this.Imperial Commander is EVEN money to be victorious in this 5 runner race! Imagine if Kauto Star had won the Gold Cup,he would have been 2/5 to win this years "Bowl"! Like i have said before Imperial is the best 31/4m chaser in the country and he is more than capable of winning this on the bridle, either way he has done the business for me this year,so i would be quite happy if he was to be beaten, particularly by
Calgary Bay
! We shall see!
April 7, 2010 at 10:59 #288202Imperial Commander is cream of the crop at the moment of course, and it may be in hindsight that 4/5 turns out to be a good price. However this obviously isn’t his target, an after-thought, whereas I see this as one of Nacarat’s targets, and is perfectly capable of upsetting the apple cart IMV. Calgary Bay at the odds is worth £1 ew as well.
April 7, 2010 at 11:06 #288210I appreciate the Gold Cup to Aintree angle, but Imperial Commander is way out in front here. I don’t buy the 185 but if he runs to 170+ he’ll still be winning fairly easily. Nacarat’s form is flatlining and What A Friend looks the one for the forecast, but can’t see him winning. The other two should be beat a distance.
April 7, 2010 at 12:19 #288251Flatlining? He was clearly the second best horse in the King George and ran a cracker off a big weight in the RP Chase. IC is a horse that has to be fresh to show his best form and he clearly wont be.
April 7, 2010 at 12:29 #288252I’m with Euro on this, bit harsh to be dismissive of Nacarat when he has run creditably in two tough races, he has run well at Aintree before and should be right up there. Bit one-dimensional to just think it will be a walk over for IC; of course he’s the best 3m+ chaser at the moment but so was Kauto Star when he was toppled by Our Vic in this very race. IC is probably better suited to Cheltenham than Aintree, and I can see all of the runners being in contention in the home straight and think it will be a tremendous contest in prospect.
