I’ve been watching last years Cheltenham and I’m puzzled as to why, when people at the course were talking about the fact that Muirhead hadn’t travelled well and hadn’t eaten up, no one on Channel 4 mentioned this..they must have known what had happened? Could it be that it has taken him a while to get over last year? [sorry to go off tangent]

January 25, 2009 at 20:03 #206463Watch out….
He’s back!

Brave Inca puts in a workman like performance to hold off Muirhead. Great to see the old boy back again
January 25, 2009 at 20:33 #206468While it was good to see Brave Inca showing the younger generation how to do it I was disappointed with the ride Muirhead got. Why the jockey didn’t go through with his challenge when approaching the last was beyond me, It was obvious the horse was going very well and yet he held it back. Take nothing away from the winner though.
Mike.January 25, 2009 at 20:40 #206471Reported on RTÉ that Sublimity scoped badly after the race.
January 25, 2009 at 21:40 #206478What a tough customer Brave Inca is, and a great credit to his trainer.
It would be nice, but I can’t see him winning the Champion in March though.
January 25, 2009 at 21:48 #206481The ground was the telling factor today.
A good performance from Brave Inca, but one which won’t, I would imagine, give the Henderson team a moment’s concern.

January 25, 2009 at 22:54 #206493River Lianes price has halved.
I was on hardy eustace but River Liane (tucked in just behind hardy most of the way round, moving effortlessly) looked to be travelling like the mostly winner through the early stages of the race and didnt look one bit inconvenienced by the heavy ground, but as the pace stepped up he just didnt have what was required. Will have another look at the race later but it looked like he just didnt have the stamina for the finish there, so its possible that there may be a decent race for him somewhere, probably one with a slow pace and plenty of cut.
January 25, 2009 at 22:58 #206494I guess he was just good ew value, but a heck of a lot of money went on him at the last minute..although my 100/1 for the Champion has halved I don’t think he’ll be giving too many people sleepless nights between now and March!…..
January 26, 2009 at 00:57 #206510Wasn’t it wonderful seeing Brave Inca showing what a gutsy horse he is again? Sad to see Hardy Eastace toiling a little though. Maybe it’s soon time to retire him.
January 26, 2009 at 14:56 #206578Race went pretty much as how I thought though was surprised Muirhead ran so well as I’d almost forgot all about him. Its unlikely to have any affect on the Cheltenham race, but wasa good race all the same and good to see the old boy back in the winners enclosure. What does surprise me though is the lack of British participation. While I know there are trials over here, none of them are Grade 1 and with the Euro so strong, there was good prize money available.
January 26, 2009 at 17:16 #206601The Irish Champion Hurdle
This could be the most important race of the season for Irish trained horses so far. It could finger the biggest danger to Champion Hurdle favourite Binocular
Current CH 2nd favourite Sublimity head the market but if all run it should give us all a clearer picture.
Sublimity himself should be bang there at the finish but he is no good thing as between now and March we can expect some massive change rounds in form.
Sizing Europe 9/2 can’t be ruled out his run last time was too bad to be true and it could be put down to his bruised foot.
Jered will be out leave the frm of his last race well behind prove he is no forlorn hope for the Champion Hurdle
Harchibald never ceases to amaze me, No matter what he runs against he can travel with the best of them. Everything better hope they have him off the bridle before the last or they will have a huge problem on their hands.
Hurricane Fly? surely he wont run?
Brave Inca can’t possibly win
Won in The Dark. It is pefecrly possible ground permitting he will improve again and turn the tables on Sublimity’
Muirhead He was close enough and going well enough 3 out behind Sublimity and Won in the Dark to suggest if he hasn’t been fully wound up he could spring a surprise here and put himself right into the Champion Hurdle picture.
I have no idea what will run so would love to here some news on what’s what.
Brave Inca`s win was fantastic wasn`t it guys, its what we love about the game. Sheer guts ,courage and class, and I think thats the third of the Irish oldtimers to win a grade one this season. Still Binocular looks safe to me
January 27, 2009 at 00:59 #206663A group of us from Talkinghorses forum were there yesterday and betting aside, Cheltenham aside, it was just a fantastic result. Great training performance and God that horse loves his races. Magic day despite the weather.
January 27, 2009 at 01:16 #206670I’ll never forget Brave Inca and War of Attrition all those years ago at Cheltenham; saw that on the telly but was there when Brave Inca won the Champion Hurdle and can remember listening to him win at Punchestown as were sitting in the car overlooking an amazing view in Connemarra….what a horse! What memories…
January 27, 2009 at 01:51 #206674I’ll never forget Brave Inca and War of Attrition all those years ago at Cheltenham; saw that on the telly
I don’t remember that race quite so fondly, as I had backed War Of Attrition that day!
January 27, 2009 at 02:12 #206677Same here unfortunately. Never forgiven Brave Inca for it!!
