No I haven’t seen it, only going by what I read in the newspaper the next day. Damn, I didn’t even realise that Proclamation had been beaten since his Sussex win. Thanks for that, you must be right.
And I am not sure that may handicappers use a pound a length at a mile and a half. I could be wrong though.;)
February 7, 2006 at 20:42 #95542Well timeform use a pound a length over 1m 4f.;)
February 7, 2006 at 20:45 #95543I stand corrected then.
February 7, 2006 at 20:47 #95544You’re a flat man at hear Grasshopper. Just in denial:biggrin:

Out of interest. Is this information in the public domain. Would be interesting to see what lbs per length they use over other distances then.
February 7, 2006 at 20:49 #95546I quote from the racing post the day after proc beat SS – ‘Kinane seized an opportunity to cut off Soviet Song.’
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic davidjohnson or if you just didn’t know. I’m about 80% sure it’s the former.;)
February 7, 2006 at 21:01 #95547From what I know and remember from my Timeform days –
5f – 3points per length
6f – 3 points
7f – 2 1/2 pts
1mile – 2pts
1mile 1f – 2pts
1m 2f – 1 1/2 pts
1m 3f – 1 1/2 pts
1m 4f – 1pt
And 1 point for everything above per length. I’m fairly sure that’s right. but a greek guy who can’t write taught me!!!
February 7, 2006 at 21:05 #95548Your Timeform days?
February 7, 2006 at 21:16 #95549Quote: from jackane24 on 7:42 pm on Feb. 7, 2006[br]I am totally unbiased on this issue. Russian Rhythm and Soviet Song are loved so much by me, that I am independent. So here goes.
Soviet Song beat an amazing filly in Attraction twice, but age may have played a big part. Attraction is widely regarded as one of the greatest fillies of all time – made history by doing the guineas double, won the Matron as a 4yo after running on very soft ground at Newbury and never got to grips with HK. But soviet song came second in the queen anne where the form was well and truly upheld, won the sussex stakes, an EXTREMELY unlucky 2nd to proclamation last year, the falmouth last year, etc
Russian Rhythm got beat by the best horse in the world in Falbrav in the QE2, won the guineas, the coronation stakes, the nassau running at 2f further than ideal, a good 5th in the champion stakes to rakti, another one of the greatest in the world, the lockinge first time out as a 4yo, etc
Was it only me who choked on reading that bit?

February 7, 2006 at 21:24 #95550Certainly looks that way.
Ouija board, Bosra Sham, Oh So Sharp, Eswarah (only joking!!!), Islington, Attraction, Russian rhythm – all first class fillies.
i mean, come on – Attraction was unbeaten until facing older holders, won the guineas double which is very rarely done, won her last ever race on ground less than ideal – she was just amazing.
February 7, 2006 at 21:27 #95551Attraction was unbeatable until she faced good horses.
February 7, 2006 at 21:33 #95552Quote: from thedarkknight on 6:55 pm on Feb. 7, 2006[br]I think the 2003 1000 Guineas was the best fillies Classic I can remember (It was probably one of the best classics full stop actually)….
BTW – do you think there is any chance Fanshawe will have SS 100% fit for the Lockinge ? He always seems to leave a bit to work on…
TDK, tha aim is either the Lockinge or the Ridgewood Pearl stakes at the Curragh a week later.
Will she be 100% fit and ready to win FTO? In short, I don’t know. It depends on how long her campaign is going to be this year.
February 7, 2006 at 21:43 #95553Yeah, you’re right. Red Bloom, Alexander Goldrun, Carry On Katie, Sundrop and Kinnaird are all crap. 7 Group 1s, 3 Group 2s and £2.525 million in prize money between them.
February 7, 2006 at 22:46 #95554Unless you count her first ever race (a class 6 2yo Median Auction race at Nottingham worth £3K to the winner), Attraction never won a a race including colts in 3 attempts. She was beaten a total of 44 lengths in those 3 races. Of the other 4 races, she won 2 and was 2nd in 2 (both beaten by Soviet Song). How anyone can say she was one of the best filies of all-time is beyond me. She was not even the best filly of her year. Both Alexander Goldrun and Ouija Board have achieved far more on the track than Attraction. And beating a 10f specialist over 8f is no great achievement either.
February 7, 2006 at 23:07 #95555Quote: from EC on 10:58 pm on Feb. 7, 2006[br]My humble speed figures mark them at
OUJA BOARD 127
ATTRACTION 119
I’m happy with that opinion.
Bah. Who needs speed figures when you’ve a pair of eyes.:coolwink:
February 8, 2006 at 10:55 #95556Attraction had viable excuses for all 3 defeats by colts. 23L in France to Whipper when ground was completely against her, and likewise in the Hungerford when getting beat 4L by Sleeping Indian. Not to mention the 15L to Bullish Luck when she never adapted to Hong Kong.
February 8, 2006 at 12:47 #95557Attraction was a rags-to-riches fairytale (the reason she drew so many fans), a worthy classic winner and deserves respect for her achievements.
But ‘one of the greatest fillies of all-time’ shows a terrifying lack of awareness of racing history and a horribly skewed sense of perspective.
Have a look at Miesque, Triptych, Oh So Sharp, Dahlia, Petite Etoile, Allez France, Sun Princess and Time Charter, Bosra Sham, Salsabil – if you want to know what the greatest fillies of all-time looked like. ÂÂÂ
I take it your Timeform days were when you used to subscribe?
