Did anyone catch what happened at lingfield today in the 5.05. The horse that was the gamble of the race, 14/1 into 4s before the race had trouble with his tongue tie and he couldnt race with it in. Just before the off the trainer came onto atr and said he didnt want the horse to race but he had no choice he couldnt withdraw it as he had overlooked some paper work that would delcare the horse was not to race if its tongue tie was not in place!!
I didnt catch what chappers had to say about it as I had to dash straight after the race at the break!!
Unusual rule if a horse is forced to run against its trainners wishes!!

The one day you neglect to tick the box saying ‘withdraw this horse should its tongue tie come off’, the horse’s tongue tie does just that.
A doozy for conspiracy theorists.
Keith Goldsworthy has been denied a runner because the horse couldn’t be identified from its passport, been fined for double declarations, been fined for unsatisfactory veterinary records and has now had a major gamble – 14/1 in to 6/1 in less than two minutes – run down the field because he overlooked a basic piece of paperwork.
February 8, 2011 at 10:41 #339471So, Shamrdal Phantom and Arco Felcie meet LTO and start Evens and 25/1 respectively, with both running as their price would suggest.
Then yesterday, in the rematch, AF is the gamble of the day with Matt Chapman et al passing comment on little else in the run-up to the race. They start at Evens and 4/1 respectively.
The Rabble’s conclusion: No ununusual betting patterns on the race.
Nothing to see here, move along………
February 8, 2011 at 16:46 #339518I’ve declared loads of horses to run and there are items to circle if you don’t want them to run for reasons of lost shoes (if they are to run either unshod or reshod), lack of tongue tie etc.
However in most instances I’d imagine that the travelling head lad just signs their name to say the horse is running and wouldn’t even think about these eventualties and wouldn’t know what their bosses would want to do in every circumstance.
You would think that a message over the walkie-talkie from the stewards – taking advice from the trainer – could overrule these declarations but I can see why they are done and that the starter uses those declartion forms as gospel.
