I’m not sure that’s a fair or accurate assessment these days. If you are a successful punter you will find that your accounts with the traditional bookies are quickly closed down and it’s very difficult to get any sort of decent bet on Betfair before about ten minutes before the off.
In those circumstances, it is much more sensible to sell your tips than try and get the money on yourself.

January 16, 2012 at 21:57 #387097I don’t see the point in paying anyone to think on your behalf. Surely part of the enjoyment of racing is picking your own selections and seeing it win ?….my opinion is(not that it matters for much) is that i’d rather give up punting altogether than phone a tip line.
January 17, 2012 at 00:46 #387115you would have to be an idiot too actully pay twice 2 to lose your money ie money for call money for bet at least if you pick yourself and it loses you wont feel as bad as someone loseing it for you and if it wins and you pick it yourself it is even more enjoyable

That’s my opinion as well……….using a tipping line is like waiting for tomorrow’s paper before filling in today’s crossword
Except that on regular occasions they would print the wrong answers tomorrow……….

Oops – looks like I breached forum etiquette there. If anyone wants the link then follow me on Twitter – TuffersWarnie.
I would agree with the other posters that all the enjoyment of successful punting, for me, comes from selecting the horses myself. I do acknowledge that there is a large group within the betting community who just want to be given winners, though and the successful tipping services clearly satisfy that demand. Why else would Pricewise have such a large effect on the market?
January 17, 2012 at 11:32 #387136Would spoil the fun for me. However, if you really want tips rather than paying the high costs of the tipping services try timeform and betting their top rated, or pricewise, or any of the other racing post services.
January 17, 2012 at 17:04 #387171Many years ago, before tipping telephone lines, there was a very successful book called How To Bet And Win.
It was a mug book, catering for punters who didn’t want to think, just to bet.
The principle was that you followed a newspaper tipster for so many days, and once he had tipped five consecutive losers, you backed his next tip.
Its sucess rate was astonishing. Each national newspaper tipster had an index number which related to the number of consecutive losers he was to tip before you bet on him.
It was great fun as a tangent to normal betting, and I guess you can say the same about today’s tipping lines, if you want to use them.
January 17, 2012 at 22:43 #387202First of all, it takes the fun out of it. Following a horse for a while, and seeing him win, vindicating yourself is a great buzz.
And I would not trust a single one of them.

Whilst the Inside Track tipped another winner today
January 20, 2012 at 21:20 #387562Most tipping lines are probably rubbish.
Having said that,I would like to pass my knowledge on just to help the average guy find winners.
Im a newcomer to this forum and recently retired and have the time to make my own speed handicap ratings.
I concentrate on the flat , turf and a/w, and you will find my tips in the daily lays and plays section.
I don’t have one for tomorrow but keep watching – you might be surprised
January 20, 2012 at 21:39 #387564Up until a couple of months ago I would have agreed with the majority on here. But I am less precious these days.
I love picking my own winners obviously but work and having a young family means I don’t always have the necessary time to devote to studying form especially in the winter when things are busy. However I like taping the racing and watching it when work is finished and it’s much more fun when you have had a bet or two.
The one recommended on here a while ago SP2A are excellent. These were their tips today:
– Catterick 12.30 7 Endeavour (10 each way)
– Catterick 2.10 3 War Party (10 each way)
– Chepstow 1.10 1 Dirty Deal (10 each way – take early price BOG 6/1 if possible)
– Chepstow 2.20 3 Highway Code (10 each way – take early price BOG 8/1 if possible)
Lingfield 3.40 2 Strong Vigilence (10 each way)
Catterick 3.15 1 Bardolet (10 each way) (if non runner 7 Matmata De Tenderon (each way)
Wolverhampton 7.00 3 Ambitious Boy (10 each way)
Wolverhampton 7.30 8 Piccolo Express/12 Kyncraighe (both 10 each way)All their tipsters are massively in profit and the vast majority of their tips are at big prices. They are anything but a load of xxxx!

January 21, 2012 at 10:41 #387622Best tips available for £1 a day, just buy the Times and check Rob Wright’s selections.
January 22, 2012 at 08:26 #387767Total waste of time and money IMO.
A large percentage of them will be total bullshitters aswell I reckon, saying they are a company with offices and have contacts all over, limited places etc, etc…I’ve heard em all….Most of em are probably single people picking themselves!
This game is heavily reliant on luck, if it’s not meant to be it’s not meant to be…whether you pick your own selections or follow a paper tipster, pay for tips whatever…If your luck is out you will not win….if it’s in you will!!
Find me a paid tipster anywhere that had a better day than me yesterday…3/3 winners accumulating to a 363/1 treble…I don’t charge, I don’t claim to be something I’m not. Just a hard working fella with a nagging wife and two testing children. I find the odd time to look through the cards and do the research though. Sometimes I can spend 2-3 hours looking at a racecard and come up with nothing, sometimes I can go down a racecard in 5 minutes and pick 3 or 4 winners…figure that one out!!
All it comes down to with these guys is greed IMO.
If they were really that good and making the profits they reckon they are, then they would be happy to pass on for free once their bets are on wouldn’t they??
