Timeform confirmed to me that the Perspective will cease on the Flat on 31st Dec and for NH at the end of the current season.
I’m going to do a blog piece on it so would appreciate any stories like Ginger’s of winners (or expensive losers) highlighted by the service which has been going for 20 years.
Ginger, do I have your permission to use that post about Camache Queen on my blog please?

Fine by me Joe, presumably it will be ok by Timeform.

Ta. Timeform more than happy to get the publicity (before any ‘bad’ stories come in)!

Joe
It does beg the question, what’s wrong with the PDF format?

Am a great fan of Timeform, their analysis is outstanding. However…
I see Timeform are saying about the post being a problem. My wednesday ratings sometimes come late, which is understandable given Royal Mail these days. Can put up with that.
But why is it no matter when I order my Perspective, the file form book comes late? It hasn’t been just once or twice. Over recent years I’ve lost count and actually now
expect
it to be late. So can they all be blamed on the Post?
Value Is EverythingNovember 3, 2011 at 21:56 #375860I suspect Royal Mail might be a wee bit of a smokescreen. I’d be surprised if Black Book still around this time next year
November 3, 2011 at 22:08 #375863I do get the impression Timeform don’t want their paper format subscribers anymore Joe. Even if those customers spent many thousands of pounds with them over the years.
Value Is EverythingNovember 4, 2011 at 11:22 #375935IIRC, my Perspective updates frequently arrived second post, and I’m only 30 miles from Halifax!
So, as I believe second post to private dwellings has been abolished (I haven’t had a second delivery for several years, just the one, rather late nowadays around 1.00pm) it may mean that more customers are receiving the updates a day late
Ginger or anyone, could you tell me how much a full season’s subscription to NH Perspective costs please?

£40 a month Drone.
What would you advise Drone?
I do like to look things up from yesteryear as well as last or this season. I don’t bet everyday, concentrating on better quality racing other than when going racing to Salisbury, Goodwood or Newbury.Am not interested in summer jumping or winter flat racing. ie Jumps from Nov to (end of season) Late April (inclusive) and Flat late April (Guineas Trials) or even May (Guineas) to just before end of Turf season at end of October.
Value Is EverythingNovember 5, 2011 at 16:40 #376199Ginger, for what it’s worth, I find Racing Post online very good. It takes a bit of time to read the race summaries but, after many years as a Timeform fan, I now prefer these which I believe are compiled by the Raceform team.
Also Spotlight comments on the day of the race are helpful to me and within the form panel I find the Quotes section useful.
November 5, 2011 at 17:39 #376216There are plenty on ATR that would agree with you regarding the Spotlight.

On the presumption you subscribe to NH Perspective year-round that sums to £480. NH Computer Timeform is £565, or £47 per month if you prefer. So considering this is Perspective, Black Book and Race Cards rolled into one, I fail to see how you can regard it as "over priced". Race Passes are £70 per 28 days
though I do understand they may be value for those who don’t bet every daySo CT is my rather unsurprising recommendation, though I wouldn’t put anyone off the Racing Post which is terrific value for money
Why not give CT a trial? they offer a trial version I believe. Or, if you can bear to tear yourself away from Timeform, Raceform Interactive and other services
I do have some sympathy with your liking of paper, as thumbing is a tactile involving procedure. One reads with one’s hands as well as one’s eyes; hence the much-vaunted idea of the ‘paperless office’ being something of a short-runner
A book at bedtime is much nicer than a PC screen before bedtime
However, I suggest you’ll get used to and enjoy CT. And for one who professes to liking to "look things up from yesteryear" it’s a fast doddle to bring up the lifetime history of a horse on CT, whilst thumbing back for race number 4321 then 1234 then 432 then 123…in Perspective isn’t
BTW, I suggest you’re cutting your nose to spite your face by religiously ignoring Summer Jumping and AW, using what is essentially an arbitrary date to walk away. The AW winter season features many horses with summer turf form to ponder and extrapolate, and from a generally happy personal experience May provides both plenty of NH action and some excellent betting opportunities on lush spring going
A good bet is a good bet after all; it matters not when or where it is

I know one of the spotlight team (Stuart) on the Racing Post Joe. They have some writers on the books (Frank Carter does most of the two year old stuff) and some freelance (like Stuart) for the busy days. All headed up by Emily Webber (if I’ve got her name right). I don’t think Raceform have anything to do with Racing Post Spotlights, but do other stuff.
I am a great fan of Timeform and having made a profit with them over the years won’t want to risk going elsewhere, it’s just what to chose.

Maybe CT isn’t so bad value after all Drone. I’d imagine CT and TP prices have come together over the last few years. Since I looked in to it anyway. The beauty of Perspective is I only need each Perspective for 6 months, so roughly half of the full price.
Also got Chasers And Hurdlers and Racehorses annuals.
I can count the number of bets on polytrack on one hand. Although I obviously take notice of some AW form when turf horses have run on it. You’re right Drone a good bet is a good bet no matter where it is, but not many punters are as good with every type of race. It’s usually better to specialise.
Most of my bets are on Class 3 and upwards on the flat, so there wouldn’t be as many possible bets on polytrack anyway.
Don’t want to start a debate on this thread, but I am against Summer Jumping because of firm ground. Although it is probably not as bad as it once was.Maybe I will have to throw my betting prejudices aside.
Thanks for your input Drone, appreciated, very helpful. Food for thought over the Winter. Think I asked this on another thread…
Anyone know whether a customer can chose which 28 days to have Race Passes? Or does it have to be 28 days one after the other?

Well Ginger for one who proclaims the Great God Form’s Holy Book to be all things to all racing men I find it more than a tad strange that you seem content with owning what must now be at least several years’ worth missing their New Testaments
I’d warrant that few of the laity have read their Bibles cover-to-cover, but pearls of wisdom lie hidden throughout
(that’s quite enough mixed metaphor, get on with it for chrissakes Drone)
Okay then. Rather than rehash the old here’s a link to a similar discussion we had earlier this year St. Ginger

Our sparring on pages 2 and 3 particularly relevant
November 6, 2011 at 12:47 #376408Thanks for the link Drone.
My computer skills are limited.
No doubt Computer Timeform is a "better product", with more information. Just have some misgivings about changing because I’ve done so well with a different product. What I am thinking is: When I change, and try to enterprate that
added "information"
, will I
enterprate it correctly
and identify value correctly? ie I need to enterprate it correctly to show a
profit
.
It may be I’ll do even better with CT, but there is no guarantees in this world.
Thanks again Drone.

It’s the same product presented in a different and less unwieldy way. The Form and Comments are exactly as they are in Perspective, though rather than flicking a page you click a mouse. Furthermore you have the added benefit of being able to update CT daily and download Entries, Four Dayers and Overnights as they would be presented in the Timeform Racecard.
So entering this interpretation will require little more from you than a shift of gaze upwards from real desktop to virtual desktop
To repeat Ginger, get the trial version and see what you think. As I presume you’ve packed in Flat betting as of Saturday this would seem an ideal time to faff about tialling the Flat CT in preparation for next year
Doubt you’ll do better with CT; rather you’ll do whatever you do more quickly as it saves time. Computers are – as the name might just suggest – in their element when it comes to the assimilation, storage, spewing-forth and interrogation of data; hence they and racing formbooks are a marriage made in heaven
