agents working on behalf of the sheikh had attempted to buy a £30m estate next door to Haya’s Berkshire home. In response, the judge created a 100-metre exclusion zone around her property and a 1,000ft no-fly zone above it to protect her from the sheikh and his agents.
I’ll be it wasn’t so he could take the kids on the school run more easily. Creep.
October 6, 2021 at 20:04 #1562500I look forward to the Racing Post getting stuck into this story….the same way I’m looking forward to meeting Father Christmas on 24th/25th December.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 6, 2021 at 21:21 #1562505I wonder if anyone will mention it on Saturday if Native Trail wins the Dewhurst?
October 7, 2021 at 11:20 #1562522Always makes me cringe – after every Godawful Group 1 winner – when the trainer has to say how wonderful Sheikh Mohammed is… And I do believe the words “has to” are appropriate.
Value Is EverythingOctober 7, 2021 at 13:52 #1562537I was one of my local shops an hour ago and noticed the story was on the front page of one of the tabloids. This is going to get more and more difficult for racing to just ignore or pretend is not important.

Any specific trainer?
October 7, 2021 at 17:08 #1562559Money will always talk and few have as much money as the sheikh
October 7, 2021 at 18:35 #1562569Seems morals go out the window when you need his backing. Same as man City fans and now the Newcastle fans. Yet coolmore get such a bad press. Its a mixed up world we live in.
October 7, 2021 at 19:32 #1562573I hope one or two Irish forumites are noting the sarcastic hammering being handed out here to the head of a non-Irish operation.
Forum criticism is by no means confined to Ballydoyle/Coolmore and it would be great IMO if the Penny (or Euro) could finally drop on that one and we can all go on to enjoy getting stuck into literally everyone from now on without rancour!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 7, 2021 at 21:33 #1562589Noticed it more recently with Appleby, Turkoman. However, I remember Bin Surror doing the same when he was having plenty of Group 1 winners.
Value Is EverythingOctober 8, 2021 at 03:36 #1562606Agree, GT. However, S. Bin Suroor is probably the “only” trainer who “has to” say pleasantries as he’s based in Dubai. All the rest, whether in America, Australia, or Europe, have a choice but instead they “choose” to toe the line. Money is the great equalizer. I have zero, and I mean ZERO, respect for such people. They could make the difference by taking a stand on the side of what’s right, but consciously choose not to…Sad, really.
October 8, 2021 at 09:34 #1562618Yes, they could make the difference by taking a stand but it’s a hard decision to make. When Henry Cecil effectively threw out the Sheikh Mo horses, he still had a lot of owner-breeders to train for. Appleby is a private trainer who has a good and very successful life doing (no doubt) the job he’s always wanted. “Making a stand” would leave Appleby with nothing and having to start again… And racing has changed. There are very few owner-breeders left and is basically a two man (owner) war at the very top – Coolmore V Godolphin… And many of the other owners with money are family, friends or “associates” of Sheikh Mo. Very much under the ruler of Dubai’s influence.
…Then there is Appleby’s family to consider, where making a stand ends their standard of life. Many of his own friends are probably connected to the Godawful operation. But possibly most important would be all those working for Appleby reliant on him for a job.
Hope and believe if I were in Charlie Appleby’s shoes I’d make a stand, just think knowing what Sheikh Mo / my employer has done would consume my every thought and make my job impossible. However, it is an extremely difficult decision.
Value Is EverythingOctober 8, 2021 at 10:22 #1562621October 8, 2021 at 10:47 #1562624He’ll be crying in his cornflakes. Utterly shameful he can carry on as usual given him and his families abhorrent behaviour. Loads should take a good look in the mirror IMHO. Just a reflection of the sad state of society when money buys off soo much.
October 8, 2021 at 14:48 #1562648Honestly think that Appleby’s results put him in a decent position if he wanted to consider courting other owners, but agree it wouldn’t be an easy decision. Could he even gauge interest without it getting back to the boss? (With or without his phone being tapped…)

Off topic a bit I know but this is one of the reasons I find racing less interesting nowadays, it must be similar to being a Scottish football fan with their duopoly.
