“unconditionally welcomes money”
When was that never the case?
February 17, 2021 at 13:55 #1523406Interesting to see whether Chris Cook is on the Racing Debate this weekend! As i read up about Shamsa (and a huge sackful of salt required as it was reported in the Mail) but his dad may have turned a blind eye to her abduction it as a favour to the sheikh.
February 17, 2021 at 15:29 #1523426Is anyone of significance boycotting the Dubai World Cup?
Okay, why would they?
February 17, 2021 at 19:27 #1523448Who will be brave enough to apply to name their horse “Princess Latifa”? Can’t see any way the name can be blocked, since it’s been used before and, if it IS blocked, will raise all sorts of questions (or rather highlight many that are already being asked)
February 17, 2021 at 20:23 #1523453Why would we throw him out and what benefit would it do to Racing as a whole.
Firstly we have only one side of the story which is the British Press and what they have been given by the alleged missing Princess. Don’t get me wrong I am not saying it is not true in the slightest. It probably is.
However we have not heard the other side from Sheik Mo, or we probably have when they say she is fine. Who do we beleive? Everyone will have their own opinion on that one.
Lots of Human Rights abuses go on in Countries all over the World, yet people will still go on holiday to those countries.
China is probably the worst at the minute for Human Rights abuse yet I bet that most on here have bought something that was made there in the last 2 months. No thought there for the poor Uighur Muslims.
I would imagine that Sheik Mo contributes an enourmous amount of money to the UK economy so the Goveerment nor Racing is going to do anything about it so basically we have to live with it and not throw him out.February 17, 2021 at 23:16 #1523463Our once supposedly “Great” Britain
As much as some people might like to the think that ‘Great’ is a way of declaring superiority over Johnny Foreigner, it is actually a geographical term referring to Great Britain being the largest island in the archipelago.
February 18, 2021 at 01:58 #1523471@droffats You’re a hard man to convince if you don’t think there is enough
evidence to support the facts which are nothing short of kidnapping and illegal
detention. She tried to escape before with 2 friends on a boat and when out
in International Waters they were boarded by a special task force of Indian
Commandos who forceably detained Princess Latifa, locked up her 2 friends in
prison in India for 2 weeks and flew the Princess back to Dubai against her
will. This isn’t even denied by Sheikh Mohammed, who said “he likes to think
of it as a rescue mission”. Add to this the phone videos sent by the Princess
to her friend since then, and if this were in the US or the Uk you would have
the FBI or special forces here storming the house, I guarantee you that. If
Sheik Mo were Joe Soap he would be in jail by now, but he isn’t because the
power, fear and money he wields keeps him above the law. Even politicians tip
toe around it with expressions such as “this is very troubling”.It’s been a couple of months since communication from Princess Latifa, on the
phone that was smuggled in, has been heard of. This is deeply concerning, and
like Greenasgrass I worry that she conveniently has a heart attack, or takes
her own life because of her “bipolar condition”, which she doesn’t have. Even
former President Mary Robinson now states that she was duped by Sheihk
Mohammed to give the impression that all was well. How much more do you need
February 18, 2021 at 08:07 #1523473Robinson was a fool to be so easily duped. Not surprising given her vastly inflated sense of importance.

Yep, ‘Great’ in the sense greater, bigger, larger
What constitutes ‘Great Britain’ has a long history of ambiguity with it only becoming a rigorously defined political and geographical entity following the Act Of Union in 1707, when the two kingdoms of geographical ‘Britain’ – Scotland and England/Wales – became one and were formally christened Great Britain
It seems probable that the use of ‘Great’ arose orginally due to the French having since time immemorial used it to distinguish their ‘lesser Britain’ (Brittany) from the ‘greater Britain’ across the channel, as Bretagne and Grande-Bretagne
Personally I rue that dark day circa 500AD when Albion fell out of general use

Back on topic: it strikes me that the Maktoums’ business interests here are akin to the banks during the financial crash, being ‘too big to fail’ or more precisely too big to be allowed to fail. So like the shysters in the City, the shits in Dubai will be permitted to carry on regardless
Perhaps Sheikh Mohammed should be given the boot and his stables and strings nationalised a la RBS, or sold to Coolmore
A large squadron of warthogs has just flown by
February 18, 2021 at 11:31 #1523478Somerset Maugham once described Monaco as “a sunny place for shady people”. He could just as easily have been talking about Dubai. It is the organised crime capital of the world. I expect a lot of tourists who go there do not realise and have bought the myth it was built because of oil. And the people in power who do know the truth would rather we not talk about such unpleasant things.
February 18, 2021 at 20:34 #1523537@BigG I am not a hard man to convince and I have no doubt that it is all true.
My point is that far worse is going on in the world that no one bats an eye about, like I said in China.
The saying that money makes the world go round is very true.
It is a sad world we live in today.February 18, 2021 at 21:59 #1523539“Sheikh Mohammed, on a point of general principle I must ask that you remove all your horses from my yard.”
Said no trainer ever.

Folk are losing their jobs for saying inappropriate things yet this behaviour is tolerated as he basically keeps a huge chunk of British racing going. Morality not a strong point obviously. Just like in other sports there is a fit and person test owners need to pass. Mmmm. I don’t think so.
February 19, 2021 at 12:12 #1523579Didn’t Sir Henry Cecil once tell Sheikh Mo’ exactly that, Ian?
Or did Sheikh Mo’ juat take his horses away for “moral” reasons?

And Julian Wilson’s take on it writing Cecil’s obituary: “The hammer blow came in 1995 when Sheikh Mohammed removed his entire string, with thinly veiled comments indicating his dissatisfaction with the new Mrs Cecil’s involvement. By 2005, by which time the second marriage had been dissolved, and Cecil’s heavy drinking had led to a five-year drink-driving ban, he was training just 56 horses, 22 of which were owned by the ever-loyal Prince Khalid.”

Suspect Sheikh Mo’ said “you do it my way or else”, ie demote the new Mrs Cecil or else. Then when Sir Henry refused, the horses were taken away. SHC effectively saying “on a point of general principle I must ask that you remove all your horses from my yard”.
If SHC can effectively say it so can other trainers.
Value Is EverythingApril 14, 2021 at 16:44 #1536405Thought this might be of interest. It seems that through various companies based in tax havens, Sheikh Mohammed literally owns about half of Newmarket:
