Usual strong entry here, and plenty catching the eye…..

My two main hopes right now for Aintree are Any Second Now, and Escaria Ten. I’ve started chipping away at Any Second Now, and I’d be amazed if this is the plan. Happy to bypass him here. I’m just glad to see Escaria entered for something. I’ve had a fair old swing at him for The National, and I was considering laying my stakes back, given his absence. He’s entitled to need this, and given that Aintree bet, I’ll happily leave him here too.
Was kicking myself when Coko Beach win this last year. Real notebook horse of mine, for all I keep managing to avoid betting him. Strange old ride last time, but even with a rise in the weights, he’s hard to rule out here.
Stablemates Death Duty, and Mortal are both well in my sights. Death Duty is way overpriced on his Paddy Power run, and needs considering. Mortal is a horse I really like for The Cross Country, but as highlighted by Jack, this is very much the plan. Even with that “heads up” aside, he’d be on my radar here, and 33’s is far too big. Just need him to scrape in, which doesn’t look guaranteed.
Similar sentiments apply to a horse I’ve no doubt will win a big pot this year, Stones and Roses. Was a fair way out, but I was calling him the winner when he unseated at Leopardstown. Really want him to sneak in too. Stablemate Ontheropes has already paid his way this season, and though his last two runs were a bit flat, he’s dangerous to rule out. He’s the one I’m least likely to bet Antepost though.
Paddy Power and Betfair both priced up, and from memory, I wouldn’t expect too many other firms to join in.
I can see both Mortal and Stones and Roses shortening, and though by no means certain to get in, I’m happy to play early, as this one of my favourite betting races of the year.
I’d have no hesitation betting the other pair too, but I’ll hold off.
Shortlist
Death Duty 25’s
Mortal 33’s
Ontheropes 8’s
Stones and Roses 14’sPlenty of promising contenders with the likes of Eklat De Rire, Run Wild Fred, and Chris’s Dream, Brahma Bull, and Foxy Jacks all in there, but for now…..
Mortal 33’s EW
Stones and Roses 14’sJanuary 18, 2022 at 11:04 #1578576Stones and Roses has a decent chance of getting in and if he doesn’t you can always get stuck in for the Leinster National.
I’m going with Class Conti ew. Placed in this the past 2 years, on about the same mark. Goes on soft/heavy ground. M+S want a Grand National winner but he didn’t like the fences. Think this has to be his #1 target for the season.
Espanito Bello is interesting too, but I’ve just bet Class Conti for now. I probably could leave it closer to the time- he’s not a fashionable horse, if Stones and Roses gets in Townend will probably ride him, or if not then possibly Agusta Gold if they decide to send her here, so CC is probably not going to contract much from the 16s if at all. But I had a free bet and would’ve put it on something stupid this week if I hadn’t used it.
January 18, 2022 at 15:31 #1578611Longhouse poet and torygraph are the ones that jump out to me at this stage
No bet for the moment though
January 21, 2022 at 12:57 #157899210-1 looks like a fair price to me for Diol Ker, and I’m happy to have an early ap bet on him.
January 22, 2022 at 02:12 #1579155Sorry Grass, just clocked your post. Hope you’re right and he sneaks in, but if he doesn’t, totally agree, looks perfect for Leinster National.
January 22, 2022 at 18:42 #1579386Well I shouldve backed longhouse poet hes gone from 25s to 7s

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 22, 2022 at 21:46 #1579407Unless I was looking at the wrong horse when vtc put this up paddy had him 25/1
Edit
Yep
25s to 18s to 10s to 7s
Kicking myself
His price was so big I thought he’d not run and didnt want to risk it
January 23, 2022 at 18:26 #1579566Death Duty 20/1 for me, but I can’t resist Eklat De Rire at 11/1 either.
If Eklat De Rire is none the worse for Newbury, I think 11/1 is good odds
January 24, 2022 at 10:51 #1579639The entries don’t half make it tricky, could have a shortlist of about 10 lol.
One that would be potentially interesting and i think could open at a reasonable price as he’s far from a big name is Farceur Du Large.
Started off looking very promising in bumpers, but then found it hard to get his head in front. Beat Max Flamingo nicely which doesn’t look bad form now in his maiden hurdle, and then after that he shaped very much like a stayer each time he ran over hurdles. Meade never went further than 2m4.Over fences he’s been running to get his mark + produced a decent performance last time. I personally think right handed and a step up in trip will suit him. He seems one paced- but whether he’ll go here or be quite good enough in a proper handicap like this i’m not sure.
Will wait and see his price if he’s dec’d.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 24, 2022 at 15:34 #1579679Eklat De Rire is a horse I like a lot and I’m very tempted to take the 11/1,
but I’m not sure that he won’t go for the Paddy Power Gold Cup a week on
Saturday. If they are genuinely thinking about going for the Chelt Gold Cup
I’d imagine they would go to Leopardstown. I’m going to hold off at the moment,
probably lose a few points if he does go here but it’s a bit risky. Anyone heard
any rumblings
January 25, 2022 at 12:53 #1579828Happily taken the 20/1 about Franco De Port.
I wasn’t sure he’d run tbh and with Townend on i can’t see 20/1 being his price. There’s no doubt its a very competitive race but on his day he’s a very good horse, close to a G1 novice chaser.
I think this race could suit him well, and i always envisaged him as a stayer long term.Twitter: Jackh1092

January 25, 2022 at 20:49 #1579859I’ve been waiting some time to see Escaria Ten run again. Galvin, Next Destination and him were a long way clear in the National Hunt Chase. His mark of 151 seems quite lenient to me. He won his beginners chase over course and distance a year ago. Also added Smoking Gun at a big price. He won the Porterstown two months ago. Who knows if he can produce that form again.
Escaria Ten 8/1
Smoking Gun 18/1 EWJanuary 26, 2022 at 01:55 #1579893Jack, good luck with Franco. 20’s already gone when I started to warm to him, went to bet him, and he’d halved again.
Of my two, Stones and Roses is Reserve, and Mortal balloted out.
Stones and Roses was going to be a big bet once declared, but in his likely absence, I’ve added Eklat De Rire at 9’s, as backup.
Although he’s not going to be as big a bet as Stones and Roses, I’ll still have a decent swing at Ontheropes. I’m sticking with him as the main fancy now. Seems relatively easy to back, and I’m hoping to beat 11’s
Eklat De Rire 9’s
OntheropesJanuary 26, 2022 at 10:43 #1579909Franco for me, can definitely ran to 157+ based on the blackbow form, just has to have things fall right, 10/1
