Ossmoses gets what is presumably his last prep run in an NH novices’ hurdle at Ayr this afternoon. This has pipe-opener written through it like Blackpool rock, what with it being his first run for months and over an inadequate trip to boot.
Back in one piece please, son…

March 22, 2007 at 13:33 #47665update on Far from Trouble:
Galway Plate winner Far From Trouble is as short as 12-1 for the National with William Hill but was forced to miss Cheltenham with an infected foot. Berry said: "We were hoping to get experience into him in the William Hill Trophy but that didn’t happen.
"He’s back home and he’s responding to treatment and the intention is to run, but it’s still up in the air."

Very interesting. Dobbin most probably has a choice of rides.
Well, a very close second place, a proper work-out and a scaring of the odds-on shot in the bargain. That’ll do nicely!

March 24, 2007 at 18:45 #47668Just a update fom the RP…
FAR FROM TROUBLE, who was as low as 10-1 second favourite with Blue Square for the Grand National, will miss the Aintree spectacular on April 14 and the Irish Grand National five days earlier.
Frank Berry, racing manager for the eight-year-old’s owner J P McManus, said on Saturday: "Far From Trouble won’t be going to Aintree or Fairyhouse. “The leg infection he picked up at Cheltenham is proving slow enough to clear and we’ve decided that he wouldn’t be ready in time for either race.â€ÂÂ
March 24, 2007 at 23:13 #47669Joes Edge seems to tick the right boxes….picked up a gash in last years race and could have done better, set to carry 10-2 in the weights, will handle course and distance so I think it will be a dutch ew along with Numbersixvalverde for me.
March 24, 2007 at 23:26 #47670THere goes another antepost bet then but thanks for the update. Just Eurotrek left for me at 25/1 – if the horse is fully fit and the ground has give in it then I would expect it to place at least. Hopefully it can actually amke it this year after its last minute setback last year.
March 25, 2007 at 11:46 #47671I’m really gutted about Far From Trouble. I was off for a bit of ante-post acton on him today before I heard. I think it leaves the race very open, with the chance of a big weight winning; horses like L’Ami, Hedgehunter & Monkerhostin have got what it takes.
Point Barrow has come to the fore now with that recent performance, the fashion in which he ran confirmed for me he’s an out-and-out stayer (just in case a win over 3m5 hadn’t! ;) ).
March 26, 2007 at 17:55 #47672Bothar Na is a Willie Mullins trained ex-hunter, he’s relatively lightly raced and if Mullins has his jumping sorted – struck me as a dodgy jumper when he was hunter chasing which he appears to have done then he goes there with a big chance.
March 26, 2007 at 18:10 #47673Ballycassidy is another interesting runner for me would he have stayed the trip if he didn’t fall last year? maybe not but he was going well at the time of his fall could be a good e.w bet.
March 26, 2007 at 19:28 #47674Re: Longshanks – I’d be concerned whether he has the class for the National….
Class
1: 6 (0-1)
2: 7P22P47 (0-7)
3: 42P11311 (4-8)
4: 211 (2-3)
Agree 100%. If he hasn’t improved for schooling since last seen before Crimbo then that’s one of my bets down the Junior Witter.

March 26, 2007 at 21:15 #47677Easy for the National
1. Course form’s great
2. Won at 3m+
3. Previously beaten horses in the race seldom win
4. No falls, URs. BD’s etc this season
Weighted less than 11 stone
You’ll not go far wrong :)
March 26, 2007 at 21:18 #47678check my name – i cannot be wrong

I usually take a similar ‘tick the boxes’ line. In my book, you also get a bonus point for being Irish, as they tend to get handicapped generously.
One thing I would say is that the 11st rule used to be my numeo uno criterion, but now with horses less than about 10st4 getting balloted out you can get up to 11st4 or 5 winning.
And I liked Bewley’s Berry aswell for a while, sberry, but look at how it finished in the Beecher; f****ing knackered, it still has 9f to go in the big one.
March 26, 2007 at 22:36 #47680They seem to go steady for most of the National though, it’s not a fierce genuine 4 1/2m, I always look upon the section from about Valentines to the first on the second circuit as something of a hack canter – must be the best part of a mile they do going no pace at all, unlike the Becher which is flat out.
