Nice post Charlie. Henderson hinted strongly that they will take UDS on at some point. My guess is after maybe three warm-up fences they’ll move him upsides UDS. That could well unsettle the horse, especially given the size of SS
Just had this discussion with mate yesterday. We’re both huge UDS fans and he seems a class apart. However…
Turns at the top of the course to run down the hill, 3 out, Special tiara going strong in front and jumping like a stag, SS looms upsides, after absolutely monster of a leap at 4 out, on the bridle, crowd start going bananas…
That’s a shaky jump at 3 out for UDS right there.
I wonder… Whatever the permutation I can’t SS staying up the hill but ST or even Felix Yonger / Gods Own could come late to capitalise on any UDS jumping errors. Can’t wait…

Blackbeard to conquer the World
March 2, 2016 at 15:58 #1236064Last time I went round Cheltenham I p*ssed all over the opposition on an extended 3m, including beating the recently impressive Theatre guide by 36L. I did the same thing to the Henessy field at the end of November with another front running display. In between I badly co*ked up the King George finishing 4th with a change in tactics.
I am at least double the price of the 5 in the beating ahead of me. Of these , 1 is below me on official ratings, one is off the same mark but failed to make it round C&D recently and has a question mark due to an injury sustained in the same, of those rated above me, one has failed to win in two attempts in Cheltenham falling around here once and recnetly in the KG, the other 2 has a question mark over their ability to stay extended 3ms.
And having said all that i’m still not convinced to back Smad Place but on known form 12-1 will look ridiculous if he manages to pull it off or is even in the first 3.
Felix Yonger at 8/1 w/o UDS is also looks overpriced. He will have to beat ex champs that are trying to bridge 2 and 3 year gaps to winning (SDG and SS) or whose prep has been disastrous (DB). He has a lot to find on OR but this horse is reaching his peak in his 10th year…there looks to be a big race in him.
Yorkhills tolworth hurdle win makes him look very overpriced for the supreme at 12/1 or 8/1 NRNB.
One other – rated as high as 104 on the flat. Not out of the first 3 in last 11 starts (excluding 1 UR) with Parlour Games, Alpha des Obeaux, FAugheen and Identity thief all looking at his arse in 2015? Nichols Canyon out to 11/2 for poor showing in a swamp…and the 2 in front of him no longer running?
March 3, 2016 at 08:09 #1236129Dual Grade 1 winner at the trip, Cheltenham festival winner, started 6/4 fav to give Thistlecrack 4lbs just three months ago – I offer up Whisper at 16/1 for the World Hurdle.
Two dismal runs this season, both on ground much softer than he likes and every indication that he was hampered by a physical problem. Watch the replay from Newbury and look at the way he carries his tail, something my first trainer taught me was an infallible sign of a horse with a back problem.
Henderson claims the horse is back in form at home, not that I’d believe him if he told me today was Thursday. Not the sort of horse I like to back personally, but he’s a perfect example of the basis of this thread. If he runs any sort of race at Cheltenham, remember him for the hat trick at Aintree.

“That ground didn’t do her any good at Ascot on Saturday. If the handicapper drops her significantly she could come into a handicap, which she probably ought to be doing.
“She is going to stud and is such a valuable broodmare. If the ground came better she will run in a handicap or the Ryanair.”
Straight from the horse’s mouth…..Nicky not the mare that is.

March 6, 2016 at 21:32 #1236489Even though he has one decent bit of form this season in his 2nd to Cue Card in the Charlie Hall, my offering is David Pipes Dynaste in the Ryanair…
I reckon he qualifies for this though coming to the festival with defeats in his last three runs beaten…19 lengths, 105 lengths and 20 lengths…
He’s had his problems this year as have the yard form wise…I’ve just seen a few of Pipes lately though completely turn round their fortunes and I can see this fella doing the same.
He won this two years back and I think he can do so again. I thought his run last time behind a rejuvenated Silviniaco Conti was more than satisfying…it was his first run back after his breathing op and I personally thought it was an ideal prep for Cheltenham….no trouble to the winner but pleasing the way he stayed on…
If he gets good ground at the festival which he hasn’t encountered for a long time I think we will see a completely different horse….as mentioned already the yard have had some real tough periods but I can see light at the end of the tunnel in that regard and can see this chap turning up in fine fettle…at 20’s I think he’s the best each way pick of the entire week!

Highly regarded + hcap mark kept down since Ascot for this. Could maybe run in the Grand Annual but will probably get outpaced.
