Good afternoon comrades.
First and foremost hat’s off to Pete for his two winners last week in the shape of Ji-Yai Shin and Jyoti Randhawa.
Ok a couple of Tournaments to mull over this week.
Firstly the next leg in the Race To Dubai this being the The WGC CA Championship coming to us from Doral in Florida.
This marks Tiger Woods continuation of his return from his injury and whilst the odds on offer will tempt plenty i’m sure alas i feel a bit longer might be needed before he shows us he is back, in saying that if all is well then for sure he will be in the mix come the business end.
A few of my usual suspects will not be representing me this week, but for Race To Dubai standings obviously we hope, those being Padraig Harrington and my Swedish duo Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson to name a few.
Main Selection.
I have to start with Zach Johnson given he has had top 10’s in the last two runnings of this and what’s more his game is you would think fair to say in much ruder health then at this time last year, for me a solid E/W selection this week.
Next Best.
First and foremost an apologie is in order to Pete as i have to side with Geoff Ogilvy, you could not help but be impressed by the manner of his victory in the recent Matchplay, coupled with his victory in this last year you have to feel that another prominent display is there to be had.
I have no Longshots as such but two others who will be representing Team Vanstone this week are none other than Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh.
It is fair to say that at the moment Jim Furyk has not hit the Traps running but he certainly likes it here and as with Vijay Singh who i feel still has something to offer against the best despite in his case the advancing years, and coupled with the odds on offer this week certainly in my case merit close scrutiny.
Ok to the Puerto Rico Open.
This i have to say is a bomb site as if all aren’t and as such no strong fancies from this end, however somebody has to win and two who will be entrusted with helping me in hopefully solving that matter are Jerry Kelly and Kevin Stadler.
Well as always The Best Of Luck to all.
Cheers.
Adrian.
March 10, 2009 at 20:01 #214978The
WGC CA Championship
takes place in florida and Tiger makes his second appearance of the season following his injury. He likes this course and I think he will enjoy this strokeplay event more than the recent matchplay one but his odds are too short for my style of betting.
Phil MIckelson has been in good form recently but has not played well at this event during the last 2 years and his tendency to hit wayward shots off the tee will be punished at this course.
I’m betting onSergio Garcia
to win this and he played very well from tee to green last week in the Honda Classic ( he was best in the GIR stats ) but was let down by his putting which has been a problem for him during his career. He putted well during the second half of last season and if he can reproduce that form then he could go close in this event.
Adam Scott
started the season reasonably well and finished runner up in the Sony Open but has disappointed since and was defeated in the first round of the Matchplay in Arizona. He has reportedly been working hard on his game since then and has been having coaching lessons with Butch Harmon. I’m betting on a good performance from Adam at this event where he finished 9th last year.
Geoff Ogilvy
has been in very good form recently with 3 victories in the past four months including his recent matchplay success. It is probably expecting too much for him to win consecutive tournaments and to retain his title here but he is playing so well that I cannot leave him out of my selections.
K J Choi
is one of the most accurate players on tour and played well at his most recent strokeplay event when he finished third in the Northern Trust Open. His game is better suited to shorter courses than this one but he looks worth an interest this week in my opinion.
Finally I could not resist having ane/way
bet on
Sean O’Hair
who has started the golf season better than he usually does and played very well at the Matchplay event recently. The opposition at this tournament may be too good for him but at the BF odds I obtained of 130/1 to win and 12/1 for a top 5 place then I think he’s worth it.
There is one other tournament to bet on this week and it’s the
Puerto Rico Open
on the pga circuit. This looks very open and a difficult one to find the winner of with BF presently showing Van Pelt as the 22/1 favourite which says it all really!
I’m betting on four players who are all capable of winning this event if they can find their best form but whether they will is another matter with my money on them
Brandt Snedeker
will win this easily if he can reproduce the form he showed in some of the majors last year but he seems to have lost his way this season and may be playing this low profile event to try and regain his confidence. I planned to not bet on him again after his bad performance last week but I’m giving him one more chance here

John Merrick
nearly won the Bob Hope Classic earlier this year and finished 6th in last year’s US Open. He is one of the longest hitters in the field. He has struggled with the putter in the past but he looks worth a bet against this opposition.
John Mallinger
is a difficult player to predict but he can play very good golf occasionally and managed four top 10 finishes last season. He has not shown his best form yet this year but I’m betting that he will this week.
Troy Matteson
is my final choice and is my most optimistic one. He won in the autumn of 2006 and has managed top 5 places on four occasions since including a runner up finish in the Pods championship last year. Odds of 50/1 make him worth an interest.
Good luck to Adrian, Aaronizneez and anybody else betting on the golf and on the greatest show on earth in the cotswolds
