Good morning everyone.
Firstly well done to Pete for his win last week, and secondly don’t adjust your clocks
.I think you will agree there are three good Tournaments this week coinsiding with for me the European Tour really taking off with the first of three weeks entertainment from the desert.
So i will start with the Abu Dhabi Championship.
Main Selection.
It will not come as a shock but he kind of picks himself given his outstanding record over these three weeks, here’s hoping that Henrik Stenson can keep that going and emerge triumphant again come Sunday afternoon.
Next Best.
If he turns up in the same vein as last year then Martin Kaymer will have a large say in things, he could even afford the luxury of shooting over par in the last round and yet still emerged triumphant by about 4 shots.
Ross Fisher gets my next vote, just feel that he can have a good shot at it this week as he is more than capable of mixing it with the best.
Longshots.
A couple here, beginning with another Swede who i feel should have won more than he has, so if he can put his best foot forward then maybe this could just be Johan Edfors week.
Finally just a hunch here but at the price i feel a small investment on Gregory Bourdy could bear fruition.
Ok onto the next leg of the Hawaiian swing which this week takes in the Sony Open.
After his trouncing of a good field last week it would not be beyond the realms of impossibility that the Saint ( sorry that was Ian
) can go in again, for the purpose of this however Geoff Ogilvy will be known as that, but not for me thanks.Main Selection.
In the hope that his renaissance can continue i am more than happy to be in the corner of Zach Johnson again, but for one round last week who knows.
Next Best.
That honour falls on the shoulders of my learned friend Tim Clark, i am intrigued that he goes here rather than perhaps the African Open so i am more than ok to take the hint, here’s hoping that i don’t have to cross him off my New Years Honours list
.Longshots.
A couple to throw into the mix here, beginning with Johnson Wagner, he more than did ok last week and if in a similar vein it could be possible to get another tune out of him
.Jerry Kelly completes my quartet for this purely on the basis that he had a good run out in this last year, here’s hoping for another good showing this time around.
Finally for me and we arrive at the African Open.
Those at the head of the market command the utmost respect but you have guessed it not for me thanks.
Main Selection.
It is by process of elimination that i have arrived at Angel Cabrera, granted you have to take a lot on trust hear but if he is in the mood then i might just in a position to treat myself to some duck for dinner come Sunday evening
.Next Best.
Tricky one this i thought, but if he can perform to the same level as he did in the Nedbank before Xmas, given that half of those who were in that are engaged elsewhere then James Kingston you feel with be there abouts come the end.
Longshot.
A player who caught my eye last week as possibly the next star to emerge from the land of the proteas and whatsmore 100’s is available this week, in the hope that i have not put the frighteners up him then Brandon Pieters is hereby given the chance to repay my trust in him.
Well that will do it for me again, so as always The Best Of Luck to everyone.
Cheers.
Adrian.
January 14, 2009 at 14:16 #203862Good luck to Adrian, FanciedHorseLayer and anybody else betting on the golf this week.
The best tournament is the Abu Dhabi Championships which has attracted a good field. I think that Henrik Stenson is worth betting on at 10/1 as he enjoys playing in this part of the world and he has twice finished runner up in this event. I was surprised to see Aaron Baddeley in the line up as he usually plays most of his golf in the USA. He may not take to the course but at odds of 40/1 I think he is worth backing. My other choices are Peter Hanson who rarely gives me a run for my money but I’m hoping that trend will change this week and I’m also hoping that Alexander Noren will get his first win on the main European tour.
The first full field on the pga tour takes place this week with the Sony Open in Hawaii and this par 70 course is different than the longer par 73 course at the Mercedes Championship last week. My first picks are two players who have suffered from injury problems during the last 12 months. Luke Donald injured his wrist last year but he now reports that he is back to full fitness and this course will suit his style of play and he finished 2nd in 2007 at this event. Arron Oberholser has suffered from worse injury problems than Luke and only played in 10 events on the pga tour last season but he showed a sign of full recovery with a 4th place finish in his final event last season in October. My other picks are both shorter hitters named Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker.
Happy Punting

Pete
January 14, 2009 at 15:57 #203873I might dip my toe in the world of golf betting this week and am wondering if there are any sites that list say the last 4 years results and scores at relevant competitions on the US tour. I have looked on the PGA site but cant see anything. The European Tour site has this facility so I am OK for that and will post my investments for Abu Dhabi later on and will try and not put the kiss of death on the regulars picks.
January 14, 2009 at 18:31 #203926Right here we go for Abu Dhabi
Henrik Stenson (sorry lads) looks a worthy favourite and is my only win only selection
I have gone each way on three others. Andrew McLardy has had a couple of top 20 finishes over the course and played well to finish second at the Joburg Open. Second EW choice is Thongchai Jaidee who also has a couple of top twenty finishes over the course . And lastly Anthony Wall who was pretty consistent last season and who after 3 rounds last year was lying second.
January 14, 2009 at 19:02 #203935Hi aaronizneez and good luck with your selections especially the one on Henrik Stenson

The following site gives results of past tournaments on the pga tour – just change the year as applicable and click on the event name to see the full results for the event. Hope this helps.

Thats just the job, thanks very much
January 15, 2009 at 08:10 #204034Jimenez’s clubs hadn’t arrived early yesterday and what’s more interesting the Spanish veteran has had a skiing accident and has a bandaged wrist. So although he’s played this course very well in the past he will probably be below his best
Ross Fisher – Abu Dhabi 1st and 2nd round scores
2008 – 77-74
2007 – 77-73
2006 – DNPColin Montgomerie – Abu Dhabi 1st and 2nd round scores
2008 – 72-72
2007 – 69-71
2006 – 72-68If you don’t fear the injured golfer than get on the 03.40 3-ball – 5/2 Colin Montgomerie.

January 15, 2009 at 13:13 #204040Good Luck All
Im having my first account value MATCH bet of the new PGA Tour season [Bank,£100]
Pat Perez to beat Cink @ Evens [Sportingbet] £10
January 15, 2009 at 13:57 #204044Sony Open
I’ve plumped for KJ Choi to repeat his win of last year as my win bet. For a couple of each ways I’ve gone for Pat Perez who has finished in the top ten the last two years and Jerry Kelly (sorry Adrian) who has played well here the last three years.
