I was just wondering, if most of the posters are a bit tired of posting, especially in the “Horse Racing” section. There are quite a few good threads around, like the recent ones started by simonnott or wit. Unfortunately they can’t generate any replies or any kind of discussion and so most of the replies are created by the person who started the thread.

No one talks about the overturned Sandown bans, at least not until now, and somehow the intelligence that heavily defines this forum seems to have vanished a bit. Is it just the busy Christmas period or a general decline in being interested or willing to discuss horse racing related matters?

Maybe, it’s my wrong impression and maybe it was similar in the past years. But somehow the forum is a lot quieter at the moment.

It really does, and i can see why myself. I struggle to troll the different sub forums to see who has actually replied as the last post is so outdated. I think this has dropped the participation levels especially in the tipping and research threads.

I’ve moaned about it enough, and it seems they are struggling to get to the bottom of whatever is causing it sadly. Hopefully it’s fixed soon.

Though, on your point Ruby, i’m not sure why less people are commenting on horse racing matters. I presume some of the more opinionated posters have left for multiple reasons.

I also thought this, though put it down to Christmas preparations & political turmoil distracting people. Surprised nobody has commented on the Sandown bans though

You’re right about that, Jack and also the thing with the last post.

I took notice that Ginge created a new reply just yesterday. Maybe he’s on his way back.

I was pleased to see the Sandown bans were struck out. The process for stopping the race was clearly inadequate.

It is quiet, but we’re all to blame for that I suppose.

Interesting ones for me at the moment…

-Sandown bans…look forward to the report from the appeals panel
-Handicapper dropping Little Rory Mac by 2lbs despite jockey getting banned for 10 days for not trying hard enough in the same race…
-Diversty in racing – ITV bang on enough about it, but the new “mini-me’s” are 5 white kids, 4 with middle class accents, 1 girl…

Good to see Ginger posting again :-)

Yes it’s a bit quiet but hopefully the calm before the flurry of Christmas when we sneak away from our nearest and dearest and go out to the shed “to get more firewood” and check the forum’s latest thoughts on the King George.

I haven’t done much with my DLAP thread lately, cos I couldn’t tip the proverbial off a shovel at the moment.
Also, although the big races have been decent- well done De Rasher Counter, well done Warthog, well done that horse that won the Fighting Fifth whose name I forget- and jolly well done to those who backed them- none of them have really set our souls on fire. I suppose it’s in our nature – well mine anyway- to be greedy and unrealistic and want to look at potential new superstars all the time. Well Envoi Allen looks very good. Andy Dufresne disappointed a bit. The John Durkan went as expected. Min is good; Min won. Well done Min. The Fighting Fifth did not go as expected. Buveur is good; Buveur got broken. Poor Buveur. Paisley Park’s reappearance went as expected. He is very good. He won. He will win again on Saturday. Ho hum. Kind of. (I’m such a spoilt brat).

As for the Horse Racing subforum…well. The Sandown jockey flag thing has kind of been done to death in the racing media, because they didn’t have much else to talk about, except what is not happening, like Altior not going KG (no shocker) and ITCF not going up against Paisley Park. Also, in the immediate aftermath lots of people here maybe didn’t want to comment much about it as there are a good few Houblon des Obeaux fans on the board. Not that it would have been disrespectful to the horse, but you know, more like a sod it, switch the telly off and take the dog for a walk kind of flatness.

Anyway, it’ll be OK, I think.

I think the non update of posts doesn’t help. Slightly off putting to click into a section and see no updates when all you had to do was look before and know

Anyway the good news is Billion is back posting in the system section of the forum. The bloke is a genius and amazing to still be posting at the ripe old age of 97. Pop in there and chat to him but be careful if MrE is about he’d nick your shoelaces if you were to blink.

Really sorry it is taking us some time to fix that last post thing everyone, proving tricky.
Traffic is holding up well so lots of people reading various areas of the forum, we do get these lulls from time to time and I take the point about the glitch not helping.
    Trying to iron it out.

Personally I’ve found the November until New Year period a quiet time with fewer ‘big race’ meetings to write about for the NH guys and the a/w taking it’s time to get into gear for people like myself.Of course the recent election & run up to Christmas will also have made demands on all.
However although the weather may be cold & bleak outside the onrushing New Year starts to prompt thoughts of Cheltenham,Aintree etc and the eager awaited publication of the bible of the turf (Racehorses of 2019) for flat enthusiasts bringing people back to write on their hopes, fears, aspirations for the campaigns that lie ahead.
While not to everyone’s taste I like Meydan which always steps up a gear as it builds to its climax as does the a/w in this country with Finals day at Easter.
One thing I’e been disappointed with since joining, not a criticism of site,is that I’ve not come across any old friends from my RaceCaller days.If you are out there and by some chance reading this would love to hear from you via my ‘Tails from the Blackcountry’ thread which is always open to all commentators.
This may be one of my final postings,if not the last, so would like to take this opportunity to wish one & all
MERRY CHRISTMAS ….and a prosperous New Year to all…may all your hopes, wishes & dreams come true

I, too, miss racecaller; wasn’t a member but always checked out the big races on it. It was my first port of call, stats wise. Am on a lot of facebook pages, though, which are more ‘instant’ than forums. I also still find this site a bit slow but that might be my computer.

A bit of quiet is nice now and again anyway
The trouble is the “noisy” ones always seem to run into ginger
and that is like having to go head to head with the terminator
they either give up or get banned
Bobs comp is off until March, perhaps some have taken to hibernation with our bob
gamble will be back in 12 years to post up loads that no one will understand
TAPK will return at the end of the Ferstival to tell us he had all the winners at top AP prices of course
    etc, etc

Nathan, Gord’s last tip was back in March 2018. He tipped Blow By Blow to win any race at the Festival at 10/1…..
