I backed Not Til Monday in the hope that Cresswell Crusader’s weights advantage would be negated by the Rachel Greene’s inexperience and by Timmy Murphy’s experience and strength.
That said, I don’t think she gave the horse such a bad ride as has being suggested. In fact, she seemed totally unflustered and remained cool for most of the race; such was the ease with which her horse was travelling. To be honest, I had given up the ghost considering how well her mount was moving in comparison to Not Til Monday.
The ground was very sticky and when Timmy Murphy started to scrub the 2nd fav along, it looked only a matter of how far Cresswell Crusader would win. However, I think we were all taken by surprise when Murphy started to galvanise his mount and managed to grab the initiative.
Yes, she was caught napping, but her horse had every chance but just couldn’t find the reserves of the winner.
In short. I’ve seen many more "worst rides" than hers.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
February 8, 2011 at 18:42 #339527What complete and utter nonsense.
Cresswell Crusader: Never raced before over hurdles, never raced before over 2m3f.
If they were the only two things you knew about the horse before the race, would you say it wasn’t possible the horse could’ve got tired?
If you think that a horse untried over course, obstacle & distance that had 10 months away following his only victory is good value at Evens, you deserve to have your pockets emptied.
February 14, 2011 at 17:09 #340656Oh my goodness, Rachael Green is a truly awful jockey.
The way she’s just won on Cresswell Melody, well it was three lengths but it could’ve easily been ten.
February 16, 2011 at 17:05 #340905Paul Carberry’s ride on Martin Scruff today at Punchestown must rank up there as one of the worst. Gave the horse still loads to do before the last hurdle and didn’t start pushing until at least 50m after it and consequently got beaten.
His ride on Cool Quest at Leopardstown last Saturday was almost as bizarre
February 16, 2011 at 20:34 #340943Saw that one meself and it cost me aswell!
No excuse for it really, it’s a hard enough game as it is without the so called better more experienced jockeys making judgements of error like that….
Was clearly on the best horse in the race, but through poor deision making and being too cocky, never, ever gave the horse any chance of winning…
No excuse for it at all, but it won’t bother him and he’ll just go about his business as usual tomorrow…
February 16, 2011 at 21:20 #340948Richard Johnson on Keki Buku. Nn a 5 horse race following a 100/1 chance and jumping into the back of it and being unseated. Why?
February 18, 2011 at 23:14 #341232The more and more you think about Dunguib in the Supreme was as bad a ride as i can remember and it wasn’t all the jockeys fault. The trainer has to take a massive amount of credit for devising the unbelievable plan of being 6 wide the whole way around and 20l off the pace at times. It most rank up their with any plan that was off the wall. Especially as that Supreme track is tight.
February 19, 2011 at 00:13 #341234i would put canford cliffs as one of the worst rides in the guineas.
one of the most dissapointing performances from a horse in a race i would have to say authorized in the arc.
