Family Business won yesterday at Leicester and shares his name with the horse that landed the infamous Feast of St Raymond Novices’ Chase at Southwell on 23 January 2002.
It was the race where everything fell, was remouted, fell again and after ten-and-a-half minutes for 3m, AP McCoy eventually finished alone on Family Business. No remounts and a void race nowadays of course!
Full shenanigans can be seen here:

January 13, 2022 at 13:22 #1577829A horse named The Prince ran at Kempton last night. Geoff Wragg used to train a horse with that name, cleverly named as he was sired by Machiavellian.
January 13, 2022 at 14:36 #1577844Pawnbroker i think was a hurdler in 60s then David Elsworth had a horse of the same name on level. I could be way off with first named but vague childhood memories of having horses names on playing cards, he was one of them 52 horses
January 13, 2022 at 16:27 #1577861↑ Pawnbroker #1 may well have hurdled during the 1960s but the horse is perhaps better known for his chasing exploits, having won the Mackeson in 1966 for Arthur Stephenson.
Others will doubtless know more about him.

January 13, 2022 at 17:58 #1577876Why have I only just noticed this excellent thread??!!
Dual Cambridgeshire winner Baronet is an offensive example, ditto Dick Hern’s brilliant two-year-old Gorytus.
Extreme, I know, but I believe ALL racehorse names should be unique, although Baronet II, III, IV etc would be acceptable as was once traditionally the case.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 13, 2022 at 18:03 #1577878As mentioned upthread, the list of potential names is practically infinite and there’s never an excuse for lack of creativity.
That said, some of the original names are quite cool so an owner’s wish to duplicate might be understood (but not forgiven).
What passeth all understanding for me is an owner who saddles their horse with a name which is essentially an insult to the animal. Discovering that 4 owners over the years have called their horse Pestilence sent me deep into WTF territory.
For the record there have also been 16 Wars and 7 Famines, but thankfully only one Death.
January 13, 2022 at 20:50 #1577903100% agree.

Sadly Herpes has been used already.
January 13, 2022 at 21:08 #1577907No Covids in the Racing Post database yet either…
January 13, 2022 at 22:17 #1577916Give it a few years, Marlingford. Once Heaven Help Us is retired to stud, she can get covered by No Nay Never and the resulting foal named Antivaxxer.
