Today’s 5.00 at Wolver. An all-weather meet staged on a busy Monday in May, where connections join in the amateur spirit of the jockeys by racing for loose change (£1384).
The most tipped-up horse, and arguably that with the best form, finishes tailed off last after drifting to 30s on BF.
The betting is dominated by some horse beamed in from Ireland that Phil Smith has given one of his trademark bullseyes to (an OR of 50) and another horse that forms part of a ‘no form for any of them but they’re still all hot fav’ fourfold.
The subsequent race is dominated by the same two horses.
Does anyone actually bother with form anymore outside of the top meets?
May 10, 2010 at 19:13 #295151Glenn, betting in the last two races at Wolverhampton totally skewed by the morning coup on the Barney Curley horses with both favs part of the four horse coup … with the first one going in at Brighton and three of the four eventually winning by the end of the evening it was no wonder the bookies were wetting themselves already by the 5.00 at Wolv

May 10, 2010 at 20:03 #295163Glen , great to see you posting again ….sadly integrity in AW racing takes a hammering on a regular basis , the only way forward is to just ignore them completely
What can you expect when racing for peanuts , and the good news is , that when RFC really kicks in and tiered racing becomes a reality , racing for 1000 will be the norm , then the fun will really start , I really think you should give them a major swerve , as nothing will change
best of luck
Ricky

David, you are correct in that I didn’t reference Glenn’s implied concerns re the bigger picture surrounding the background to this race … doesn’t mean I didn’t understand what he was inferring.
Apologies for my one dimensional response … think I was getting carried away with the story behind the Curley coup
