“What can go wrong?”
The return of Bozo; Manchester City win the Champions League; Constipation Hill fails to come out.
That’s my nightmare treble.
September 18, 2022 at 18:00 #1615105I’m in Ian’s camp, if he’ll let me in, (I promise to bring logs, fire lighters and pilchards)
I don’t see the need for anything in it’s place. What would change?. I know that Boris had his
contitutional duty of going to the palace to update ma’am each week, but with her neutral political
stance I would imagine this little more than ancient tradition and a chat with cucumber sandwiches.Cas got it right, there is a very uneasy religious side to the monarchy “The Defenders Of The
Faith” that would be the protestant faith then. Can anyone name me a catholic, or a jewish
PM for that matter…..anyone?……anyone?. Tony Blair remained an Anglican until his spell
was over and then converted to Catholicism. This irks me more than a little, and I’m neither
Catholic nor Jewish. The orange Order in Scotland affiliates with the queen and the marching season is the bane of
my life, or it was until I moved away from “the big city” to Dunoon. I’m not going to get into
heavy water by even mentioning the Masons, oh s**t I just didThe Times They are A-Changin’

The pilchards clinched it – you can’t turn away a man with pilchards, let the gentleman in!

You forgot the cherryade.
Sacrilege.
Edit: Chezza still let you in. 😳
Your standards are slipping, Mr Davies.Having said that, a cherryade and pilchard spread with added chilli and garlic could be interesting… 🤔
September 18, 2022 at 18:52 #1615110Damn it, I’ll need to get a quick order of Cherryade from Amazon.
Can you get it delivered to a campsite in a forrestSeptember 18, 2022 at 18:59 #1615111“a cherryade and pilchard spread with added chilli and garlic could be interesting…”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 19, 2022 at 22:46 #1615193No matter anyone’s opinion on the monarchy, I think we must all be able to agree that was a memorable day. We will not see anything like that again in our lifetime.
I have always liked Windsor and the Great Park. The sight of the funeral procession making its way up the Long Walk to the castle was deeply impressive.
Where does it leave Britain and the monarchy now?
September 20, 2022 at 00:01 #1615196I thought the whole day was amazing. The sheer organisation of it and nothing went wrong. It was all very Gormeghast’ish but that’s one of my favourite books so that’s ok with me.
September 20, 2022 at 00:39 #1615197That’s a decent article CAS, and it reiterates many of the points I
brought up earlier. I did find out one thing today that I was unaware of,
it was mentioned by the commentater just before the coffin was lowered into
the crypt. You I and every other “common” person may leave a will.Only the execuror is allowed to see the will before the Grant of Probate
is issued. After the grant of probate is issued, the document will become
a public document which anyone can apply for a copy and view. That is by
law, unless it seems you are the Queen. A copy of the will can only be
applied for 90 years after her death. Why would this be? What is there to
hide except the wealth that the crown have. I would imagine that just
about all of us in here will be dead by that time. I’m presently 17,000,000/1 on.
Actually that’s a pretty good bet.I would imagine this is a little known fact, but I think it’s going to
open the wound of “us and them”. A great many people are struggling badly
daily, just to get by. I cannot say this with any authority, but I strongly
suspect that the money and estate of the queen will be immense. How many people (subjects) are going to be as loyal to the crown when
this is highlighted, which I have no doubt it will be by journalists,
if they are doing their job.I think the future of the monarchy, as it is, is on a knifedge.
September 20, 2022 at 05:10 #1615199Surely yesterday proved what we as a country do so well , half of the world’s population watched the funeral …. If we have no monarchy then the country would be represented by Metal Mickey Liz Truss …… Charles can stay , the Monarchy ain’t perfect but there,s bigger fish to fry at the moment
September 20, 2022 at 05:17 #1615201I thought the young lads in the bearer party were magnificent. The eyes of the world were on them and the pressure must have been intense. They never put a foot wrong, even when taking the heavy coffin up the steep stairs to the chapel in Windsor.
I hope they were given free drinks all night afterwards and they get a huge bonus in their next pay packets!

Many will no doubt say it was my loss, but I saw literally none of it – TV switched off all day and watched Listowel and Fairyhouse on my phone and managed to scrape a tiny profit with a winner at the former.
I am, however, genuinely glad that those who did watch found it a positive experience.
It seemed the BHA further marked the occasion by delaying both the final declarations for tomorrow and Saturday’s entries – I look forward to seeing these today as some sort of what I’d call normality returns.
Each, as they say, to their own.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 20, 2022 at 07:52 #1615203The BBC relaxed the licensing laws to allow people to watch it with or without a license. ITV went overboard as all four ITV channels was similarly broadcasting the same picture all day. Sky did show other programs but had no adverts. Channel 4 & 5 showed the funeral too.
The best things in life are free.
But you can give them to the birds and bees.September 20, 2022 at 08:12 #1615204I am first of all glad to hear that it went off without a hitch and also that people enjoyed it. Whatever one’s opinion of the Royal Family, they deserve the chance to have a nice send off for their dearly departed, just like the rest of us.
I did not watch it yesterday, to be honest I’d had my fill. I watched a fair bit of it on the day she died and some over the following couple of days but that was enough for me. I’m sure we’ll still hear plenty about it today but normal service must resume.
