Its usually a staying horse that wins the Triumph though…isn’t it Bul?
Katchit is a bit of an exception and even he wouldn’t be he quickest Champion Hurdler. I am a big advocate of treating the New Course at Cheltenham as a completely different course from the Old and the New takes some getting for a 4-y-o.
I know you are a fan of Celestial Halo for the World Hurdle… I will be sticking to staying types for the Triumph… Simarian my only bet so far.December 17, 2008 at 22:46 #197697Yeah Shabby but I always like to have a bit of redundancy if the ground comes up goodish, if I was sat with Zaynar and Mount Helicon in March and the ground came up good I would be absolutely bricking it…lol
December 20, 2008 at 18:59 #198262World Hurdle 1/2pte/w 1pt win Petitfour @ 14-1
Have been pondering this one for a bit now, and think he should put in a good enough performance today to justify that price
December 23, 2008 at 20:49 #198850Champion Hurdle – Snap Tie 1pt e/w 1pt win @ 20-1
Really like this one, after how he went at cheltenham in march, and whether he wins the christmas hurdle or not he will still be a danger in the champ hurdle.
Celestial Halo 1pt e/w 1pt win @ 16-1
Reasons explained on Boylesports thread.
1pt e/w Won In The Dark @ 66-1
A decent traveller, who went well at cheltenham in the triumph, and is suited to Celestial Halo’s style of running, has been looking outclassed on unfavorable conditions in ireland lately but 66-1 is big on him IMO.
December 23, 2008 at 23:22 #198861Triumph Hurdle 2pts Tharawaat @ 16-1 (William Hill)
An obvious threat to the Triumph Team and well priced enough to join the team.
December 26, 2008 at 20:02 #199291Arkle – 1pt e/w 1pt win Follow the plan @ 12-1 (William Hill)
Best 2mile Novice Chasing performance Ive seen all season, think he’ll be suited by cheltenham and looks like he has plenty of room for improvement.
December 28, 2008 at 05:40 #199749It looked a good heat Bul’…I think we now have the Sandown race and the Leopardstown race where the front two all look contenders and were well clear. I have had another 1/2pt on Free World at 14s.
December 29, 2008 at 04:02 #200030I rarely bet during the season (about once a week) but have to say I have that recently I have been pretty rubbish. I think Padraig Harrington in the PGA was my last winner. Cheltenham is exam time and makes or breaks my season.
I will have another dabble after the 30th Dec but so far this festive season I have added.QM Petit Robin 1pt at 20/1
Ballymore Pandorama 1pt at 14/1
Ryanair Imperial Commander 1pt at 20/1 (before KG)
GC Barber Shop 1pt at 31/1
RSA Ballyfitz 1/2pt (another) at 28/1
Arkle Free World 1pt at 14/1Your recent picks have looked very good Bul’ and you look to have got a fair bit of value. Good luck.
December 29, 2008 at 08:30 #200085At the minute I’m quite happy with what I’ve got in the Triumph Hurdle, Arkle and World Hurdle. The world hurdle looks like a penalty kick for Punchestowns IMO, zaynar looks to be top of the tree in the triumph, and I think Mount Helicon has much more to show (he’s the value bet still at a good price IMO). Not too worried about Hebridean being beaten the other week and think that better ground will see a better horse before the season is done, especially as that race looks much more than an average class4 now.
Indian Groom looks like an early season flash in the pan horse, and the same is possibly true of American Trilogy and Petifour. I expected better from AT than he has shown to date, but possibly better ground will see some improvemnet from him.
Will justkeep my eyes peeled and see if anything emerges, with many of the top horses being out over christmas and some clashing with others, stables will realise what they are up against at cheltenham, and a few more smart ones may yet emerge.
Youve got a decent hand for chelters yourself shabs, my main worry with free world isthat he could potentially be outstayed as happened when he met ashkazar last season, IMO you could do much worse than adding Follow the plan to the arkle team at 12-1.
January 1, 2009 at 05:25 #200748Bul’ I see he is 32 on BF … why so high?

Supreme Novice Hurdle –
Hurricane Fly 4pts @ 5-1 (William Hill)
Hard to see him getting beaten at present, but would rather get on him now, and have a few points to take him on with nearer the time.
Copper Bleu 1pt e/w 1pt win 25-1
Quite like this half brother to presenting copper and he is due to run on saturday so all going well could prove itself a solid enough candidate for this race.
Champion Hurdle
1pt e/w 1pt win Celestial Halo @ 12-1
1/2pt e/w 1/2pt win Snap Tie @ 40-1
Arkle

February 9, 2009 at 20:04 #209212Ryanair Chase
1pt e/w 1pt win Gwanako @ 20-1
Much as I like VPU for this race, think Gwanako is a nice little horse, who has been coming in for serious support in the race today.
February 9, 2009 at 20:05 #209215Gold Cup
Denman 2pts win @ 5-1
The best horse in the race, his run on saturday wasnt that bad IMO as he didnt look 100% from the off, should be much better come the day. 5-1 is a ridiculous price on a horse who should be hard to beat on the day.
February 10, 2009 at 01:32 #209345Supreme Novice Hurdle
Eradicate 1pt e/w 1pt win 20-1 (coral)
A decent handicapper on the flat, goes on the likely conditions, made a decent winning debut, should love conditions on the day and is in the right hands to have him tip top on the day. A value alternative to hurricane fly.
Red Moloney 1pt e/w 1pt win @ 25-1 (bet 365)
Another smart ex flat horse who has plenty of potential to be a force in this race, looks another likely sort to perform well in this and another value alternative to HF.
February 10, 2009 at 19:05 #209469Supreme Novice
1pt e/w 1pt win Kempes @ 33-1 (skybet)
Was watching this horses runs last night and quite liked the way he was only asked to win by so much and done it easily, but thought I’d wait and see, he seem sto be getting supported though ahead of the deloitte so poosibly better to get on before rather than after.
