Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 1, 2018 at 12:58 #1340114my old mate Donncha been gelded, tight if he gets in off 97, was 2nd in Spring Mile in 2016 when not getting in,3rd off 100 in the big one last season, then lost his way.
Only 111 to sift through, but its like Christmas eve here lol
February 1, 2018 at 13:31 #1340118Uh oh, that’s my cliff horse right there.
February 1, 2018 at 16:07 #1340136A quick glance so far and my eyes fall on two that ran in the same race behind Mojito at York last August.
The first being Kings Gift who has ran against some class animals including Benbatl Brametot and barney Roy. If he turns up for this you would think that this would be a serious drop in class of horse he is going to run against!!
The second being Medahim who a couple of times last year shaped as though he was going to improve throughout the season and if readied for this could be a bit of a blot of 100 !!
Both have been gelded in the iterim and that might help them both too!!
It will be interesting to see how they price up
February 1, 2018 at 16:29 #134014433s Kings Gift with WH and betfair
28s Medahim with betfair 25s WH
only two books on oddschecker
February 1, 2018 at 18:48 #1340167thanks NW have just invested a few quid each way both with WH 33/1 and 25/1
February 1, 2018 at 22:05 #1340201The top weight in last year’s Lincoln was rated 109 and the last horse in, as number 22, was rated 97.
This year, the ex John Gosden trained Crazy Horse is leading the ratings on 110 and all things being equal you may need to be rated in three figures to get into the final field.
One who is on the cusp and who may top the ton on the ratings in time is Lahore who was initially trained by Roger Varian but has just moved to the Clive Cox yard, which I don’t see as a negative at all. There will be time to settle in and just a possibility the change of scene will have a positive impact.
Lahore started at 5F and made a winning debut, before moving up to 6F the next twice and then 7F for the last two runs of the season. It was his 4th start at Doncaster that saw him make good improvement and he was then made favourite for a Listed race but he was 3rd to Jalotta in that Redcar race. Rated 99 he should make the field with luck and the first question is the mile trip. It was soft when he won at Doncaster and recorded his highest RPR of 103, he also seemed to improve for the step up from 6F, as he was raised 13 lbs for his winning effort at his first try at the trip. They must think a bit of the horse because he was tried at Deauville in a Group three 6F race, where he was 5th to Signs Of Blessing.
Lahore is 2/2 at Doncaster and after only 5 starts, three of which he won, he brings potential and an already decent level of form to the table. He could be one to watch and the stable are more than capable. He seems to be making little impact at 28/1 in the betting and I couldn’t be sure this is his target but I like the combination of profile and odds. I could see him go a bit shorter with a statement of intent from connections. He’ll be speedier than a lot of them I would think.
Funnily enough, Lahore finished ahead of today’s Meydan winner Jordan Sport when he ran behind Jalotta in the Listed race I mentioned earlier.
Lahore is by Elusive Quality and if he goes here and lasts the mile I feel he could have a big say. 28/1 is a decent price in my eyes for an early dart.
Lahore 28/1
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 1, 2018 at 22:38 #1340206No flat talk until after Cheltenham lol
I hate you all
February 2, 2018 at 00:23 #1340223Couldn’t resist taking a look although it’s really early days, but the three that caught my eye where:-
LORD GLITTERS
14/1 – (David O’Meara)THUNDERING BLUE
20/1 – (David Menuisier)TAQDEER
22/1 – (John Gosden)Of the three Taqdeer is the most interesting runner having been off the track since beating Prize Money at Newmarket Rowley Mile on Guineas Day 1st May 2016.
Prize Money went on to be a Group horse in 2017 the year that Taqdeer was absent from the track running his best races at Meydan up to the middle of 2017 and running 4th to John Gosden’s Jack Hobbs in the Sheema Classic.
Menghli Khan also ran in that Newmarket race 1/5/2016 and was 8/8 on the day, now doing very well as a novice hurdler for Gordon Elliott. Two striking greys and good chances for Lord Glitters if the ground comes up soft and Thundering Blue if he has learnt to keep a straight line when making his run.
Steve’s would know more about the ratings but I believe Lord Glitters is highest around 109.
Taqdeer difficult to rate having had that year in the wilderness around 98 with Thundering Blue 96.Something to look forward too, keep the updates coming in..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 2, 2018 at 00:44 #1340226As I said Jac, Crazy Horse is on 110 and the BHA website shows Lord Glitters on 107 now, so he’s quite high up.
Only one horse has carried more than 9 st 5lbs in the last 30 years and it’s likely Lord Glitters will have more than that weight this year. He had that great, late, surge to get up for a big win last season but the handicapper has taken note.
Crazy Horse was once fancied for the 2000 Guineas and he’s been gelded and moved to George Baker from the Gosden yard. Asking a lot for him off 110, even if he bounces back.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 2, 2018 at 01:02 #1340234Yes it’s a big ask Steve, will have to wait and see and of course the draw could be crucial as well as the ground with these top weights so not ploughing in with any big bets this early on.
Crazy Horse was also owned by John Gosden’s wife Rachel Hood so George Baker now owns and trains him.
Beaten by Kool Kompany at Doncaster last year in the Doncaster Mile, he’s not one that I would be backing. JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 6, 2018 at 12:19 #1341033I see the books really like the Silver Cambridgeshire form, with the first three home in the top eight in the betting. Half a length covered them that day (Addeybb(12s), Afaak(22s) and Fire Brigade 16s) The third has come out and won since.
I have narrowed it down now to about 8(slowly getting there),with a couple of others who may not get in. Big believer in course form at Donny(along with ascot) so may go for a couple of golden oldies to run to their best returning to Town MoorFebruary 8, 2018 at 19:45 #1341306need 13 to come out for donncha to get a run
February 8, 2018 at 20:59 #1341313I think both of mine will get in being 23rd and 24th in . I just need em to turn up now!!
February 8, 2018 at 21:37 #1341315I am pretty confident Lahore will get in. He is more certain of a run than the well fancied Fire Brigade anyway.
The worry for me is if they actually want to go for the race.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 8, 2018 at 23:07 #1341328Same here Steve. It just depends if the trainers have targeted the race.
