    The Kew Tour :D
I know it’s a bit childish but I still get a giggle when I hear presenters and especially commentators saying this horses name.
I think it’s a very clever way of getting a laugh and what harm.
I know there have been other examples of names that slipped under the radar, ‘Mary Hinge’ springs to mind….alot actually.
Any other funny examples or names ye like post below.
I just wish I get the opportunity to call a horse "Tip Pop Top Pip", wouldn’t you love to hear Thommo trying to say that at speed.

Yah, I don’t get it either.

Though I would love to call a racehorse something like ‘Brings up the rear’ or With the leaders’.

Would get boring pretty quickly though :(

    think "sweet red-light district denizen."
Anyone remember "Selosra" ? Jockey Club made owners change name although it had run under that name.

    Say it quickly
    ‘The Cute Whore’.
As such it doesn’t mean a ‘pretty prostitute’.
It’s an Irish expression, used as a description of someone who is very clever or sly, especially with money ……
The most common expression is "The cute Cork whore".. Cork men are sneaky feckers. (bait)
    Cute= Clever/Sly
    Whore= Scally Wag
    The Cute Whore=The skeeming, sneaky,two faced,double crossing, basta…..
I hope this explained it for ye.
Fascinating to think that ye never realised the significance of the name.
It’s a bit like MacGowan and ‘Pog Mo Hoin’…….

We had one called Back And Wide – and that’s where it generally was  I think it’s in Hong Kong now. Another one was Down The Wicket.

And there I was thinking it was a jaunt around my local demesne:

How do you pronounce the county in which you reside, BTW?

I used to live in The Avenue, Kew about 10 years ago – it was a lovely place!
I was working in Richmond at the time and I used to walk to work on the nice mornings :D and we’d go to Kew Gardens on the weekend for picnics :D

Yep, KT, I moved here from Kensington (Yorkshire before that) at Christmas and do like it immensely. I am on Kew Road itself, about 600 yards further out of Richmond than The Avenue.

Rather sleepy, and the planes can be a nuisance, but really well placed for striking in or out of London and with plenty of amenities nearby. We have a 24-hour bus service, every 10 minutes, from almost outside the door!

The Gardens themselves are like The Garden of Eden on a sunny day (not that there have been many of them recently!).

    What made you leave?

I was only there for 2 years before heading back to Australia. I was working at Northumberland Company which had offices opposite Richmond Green.
I loved my time there. I remember the first winter it snowed (not that heavy ) but heavy enough for me to sprint onto the green with all the others and throw snowballs!
If I had to work in London again that’s where I’d live, beautiful place and as you say very close to everything without being in the centre of the city. :D
I remember walking into work and seeing Concorde nearly every morning coming into land – never tired of that sight.

A few other names from the early 80’s specifically designed to discomfit racecourse commentators were:

    SHY TALK,
PISTOL KNIGHT, …… and, of course, I have to include the one-and-only
    HOOFHEARTED :D

(You have to say the above names out loud to appreciate the mischievous intent of the namings.)

Subsequently, Wetherby’s tightened up their naming approval procedures.
