Thanks, Father Jack, someone needs to explain to Dettori racing will continue after he’s gone. Dettori blaming young jockey and Jonny G blaming Dettori for checking out Baaeed. Taxi for Dettori.
I put ITV racing on yesterday first time in an age. got the feeling they were desperate for Stradivarious and Palace Pier to win, similar to Enable, no script for defeat.October 17, 2021 at 17:58 #1563824Richard Hoiles analysed the race on “Luck On Sunday” this morning. Fair play to him: he said Dettori was wrong and unfair to criticise the young lad.
October 17, 2021 at 18:30 #1563827CAS, I was just about to post the same video.
Incredible that Frankie had no clue who or what caused him to lose that many positions before the above mentioned incident even took place….. This is something that couldn’t have happened to a class jockey like Ruby. He always knew/still knows how the race unfolded even shortly after it has finished.
By the way, how does Ryan get away with four days only for that first bend incident? Is it a Breeders’ Cup protection bonus for Ballydoyle?
October 17, 2021 at 18:35 #1563828Thanks for posting that. I knew they were tight into the bend but I didn’t realise how rough it got- poor Berkshire Rocco got a right thump.
October 17, 2021 at 18:57 #1563831Fully agree with Richard Hoiles, good on him for putting that on air out.

October 17, 2021 at 19:30 #1563832Thanks for posting that. I had no idea that Moore got a ban – and agree it probably should have been longer. I wonder if ITV will follow up in such detail. Suspect not. Both Hoiles and Weaver did gently imply that Dettori was in the wrong on Saturday but I got the impression both were holding back.
I don’t think Gosden is a “heat of the moment” sort of person and I don’t recall him ever criticising a jockey’s ride directly after a race (i.e. before he has had time to properly discuss it with the rider in question). As others have said, it didn’t look THAT bad so I wonder if he was responding to Dettori’s remarks.
I hope Olly Bell’s invitation to Dettori to join the team when he retires was his personal fantasy and not producer policy.
Poor old Berkshire Rocco
October 17, 2021 at 19:40 #1563836I did not realise the incident on the first turn was so bad either. Very careless riding by Moore.
Dettori is way out of line. He publicly criticised McMonagle for no good reason. He owes him a public apology.
Well done to McMonagle for having the guts to stand his ground in the race and afterwards, and to Joseph O’Brien for supporting him.
October 17, 2021 at 19:47 #1563838Agree Cork All Star, Dettori seems even more out of line after watching that analysis. Well done Richard Hoiles for highlighting it.
Frankie seems to be someone who thrives in the public gaze, so I presume a media career will be his next step. Like him or loathe him, I can see why his profile would make TV executives want to get him on board. Those of you wishing him an imminent retirement should be careful what you wish for!
October 17, 2021 at 19:48 #1563839Quite right, Frankie should have the grace to publicly apologise to the young jockey he wrongly criticised.
Good race analysis from Richard Hoiles.October 17, 2021 at 19:56 #1563840A public apology should no longer be delayed. I wonder if he’d show the same behaviour in Ireland. The Lads would teach him some manners…
October 17, 2021 at 20:15 #1563843If there is any positive to come out of this, it’s that he may have to negotiate harder for his “spare rides” from O’Brien stables!
October 18, 2021 at 13:56 #1563886Dettori’s comment about McMonagle was out of order.
October 18, 2021 at 17:06 #1563897This was a day Frankie has previously had great success and probably convinced himself this Champions Day was going to be no different. After a comparatively poor season this a last chance for 2021 British glory. Might also want another Frankie Day before hanging up his boots.
Always a confidence jockey; when things are going well Frankie is a happy chappy. When things are going (what he considers) badly his decision making is a lot worse and probably moody. In that state and – in what was an already rough race – things people do often seem worse than they actually are.
Value Is EverythingOctober 18, 2021 at 19:39 #1563916He’s a bit of a Ronaldo or in extremis a Peterson
You can admire him (and no doubt he’s often been a superb jockey) but not really like him
October 18, 2021 at 21:26 #1563930Not sure Frankie is quite that, Clive.
However, most jockeys display a laid back, unflappable attitude, not used to showing their emotions. All of which supposedly help instant decision making on top of racehorses. Lots of jockeys aren’t great in front of camera.Frankie does show his emotions and will sometimes be wrong with what he says. Unique in the current Racing world an extrovert. Media naturally loves him.
Value Is EverythingOctober 18, 2021 at 22:47 #1563934I know you worship him GT, but he is an arsehole.
BUY THE SUN
October 19, 2021 at 00:01 #1563943Frankie’s got an ego for sure, but few people who‘ve achieved as much as he has don’t. To be fair, I think he’s been a pretty good ambassador for racing in the wider world over the years.
On Saturday he took advantage of his high profile to unfairly blame a vastly less experienced rival. I’d have a lot more respect for him if he spoke up again and admitted he was wrong now that he’s had some time to reflect.
