Racebets are going 20/1 Peace Envoy Gord.
Not sure how much you will get on with them, but that is the odds they are quoting. They are only 4/1 Orderofthegarter.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 13, 2017 at 00:28 #1300579Thanks for heads up Steve, managed to get a bit on at 20’s before they restricted me faster than you can say boom. Into 16’s now.

Sadly they are one of the few I dont have an account with Steve….I’ll just have to double my stakes at 10/1 then….
May 13, 2017 at 16:24 #1300730Having watched the 1,000 today I am now even more confident about Orderofthegarter. If you watch him at Naas he absolutely loves juice in the ground and he will be one of only a few that will handle the extreme conditions. The favourite should but I wouldn’t be sure about National Defense. Don’t worry about jockey bookings – Seamie has ridden him all season and gets on well with him and I’m sure Ryan would be on him if he had the choice especially since the rain fell. The booking has helped make him very backable anyway. Aiden/Galilleo/Classic – what’s not to like?!!!

May 13, 2017 at 20:23 #1300761Brametot has shown a liking for some give underfoot but this is looking like it could be run on heavy if any more rain falls. I had a look at his sire Rajsaman and he has some really good pieces of form on proper soft ground including an excellent effort a few lengths behind Excelebration, who was an absolute beast on soft ground.
Orderofthegarter won as he like on heavy going previous to beating Taj Mahal but Ryan Moore either really rates Peace Envoy as a chance or thinks they both have a lot to do to win this and marginally prefers him.
The rest don’t interest me on what I have read through on form and pedigree so Brametot is my selection albeit a hopeful rather than expectant one.
May 13, 2017 at 23:55 #1300772Rivet & Orderofthegarter both at 13/2 will do me and after today’s near miss for Haggas I’m really rooting for the Racing Post Trophy winner.
I feel he can do it; he’s a Group 1 winner and has reportedly come on well for his pipe-opener in the Craven.
May 14, 2017 at 10:34 #1300797Spotify is a huge price considering he was a close third to Brametot at Chantilly…Guyon on board too.
May 14, 2017 at 15:25 #1300835Well done Brametot backers – I’d be interested to know what SP was with British bookmakers, did he go off favourite?
What a run from Rivet though, the first two came from the clouds whereas Rivet was in the firing line throughout and battled on gamely.

The Racing Post gave Brametot at 5/1, ATR showed him as 4/1 2nd Fav.
On the Racing Post website they showed Orderofthegarter as 43/10 2nd best and National Defense 4/1 Fav.
National Defense was stone last and I passed him by because of the poor stable form, with very few actual runners this Spring.
Rivet ran well but has always seemed a horse who would set it up for turn of foot horses.
Brametot was my ante-post pick for this and he ended a very long drought for me today.
It was a frustrating race for me, as my internet connection dipped as they came out of the gates and I only caught the last 50 yards of the race. I was urging Brametot on for two seconds and they hit the line together. My first impression was that my horse had just got up, but the website then put the result up as a dead-heat for first and Rivet 3rd. I was still reasonably happy with half a loaf but I was confident he had got up and wanted to see the photo. However, when checking back later, I saw Brametot had won a short head. I can only feel for backers of the second who thought they had a dead-heat.
I was looking back at my losing run and at one stage it felt like the last winner I had was when Neil Kinnock was leading the Labour Party, but it wasn’t quite that bad.
Orderofthegarter was 5th but beaten a long way, a bit disappointing, certainly no The Gurkha on the evidence. Peace Envoy was 10th and never involved. I had said on the Guineas thread that I didn’t see him as a miler and that he had raced plenty of times last year. Maybe he has been caught up and passed by his 3yo compatriots. He looks like he could be hard to place.
I was delighted to get the monkey off my back with Brametot and hope I have turned the corner.
Looking forward to Cracksman this week and hope he can do the business in the Dante at 9/4.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 14, 2017 at 17:54 #1300851Looked an absolute mess of a race with at one stage three groups. That said the cream might have risen to the top. The first two came from the last two places. When it is that close probably just down to one horse just wanting it a fraction more.
Well done winners.
May 14, 2017 at 17:56 #1300852Brilliant Stevie – The Caution Curse well and truly lifted!!! It was a messy race as Stilvi says but I think the best horses came to the fore. Mine was disappointing. Onwards and upwards from here Steve!

May 14, 2017 at 20:16 #1300873Orderofthegarter’s run was interesting though. At no point was the horse ever really traveling and after looking like he’d be completely swamped and finish out the back he found a second wind and nearly got up for 4th – maybe he needs further or better ground to be competitive at this level?

I certainly hope so Joni.
I briefly thought Rivet might have stolen it but they came past him eventually. From there, I thought Rivet actually got tired and William Haggas said he felt 10F might be as far as he wants to go with the colt, so that’s a concern if you have had, or are thinking about the Racing Post Trophy winner for the Derby at Epsom.
I felt Brametot did well to come from where he did. It was not an electric turn of foot but he kept picking up and ultimately prevailed. Jean-Claude Rouget had said he was hoping for a very strong pace for his colt. The suggestion was that they will take Brametot to the French Derby, where Paddy Power have him at 5/1.
The Racing Post gave Orderofthegarter as running to 97 today, which is about a stone below form. While he was disappointing today, I had my reservations about his mark coming into today. He went up from 103 to 112 for beating Taj Mahal but I am dubious about that horse, who went on to be beaten by a horse rated 81 next time he ran, as 4/7 Fav in a 4 runner affair.
The French Derby could be a hell of a lot better than the Epsom version. Brametot and Al Wukair could clash with recent Greffulhe winner Recoletos in a race where we know all three horses can quicken up in the closing stages. In comparison it might be like watching the Henley Regatta on Epsom Downs.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Yes he looked like a stayer didn’t he Charles? I thought the race went against him as he is a horse that likes to lead but they split into two groups and his group was clearly behind the one in the centre so Seamie was riding him 4 furlongs out. Saying that though, Brametot came from the same stands-side group so can’t really make excuses. I imagine we will see him step up in trip next time but he is probably not as good as I thought he was.

May 14, 2017 at 22:23 #1300890I am hoping Brametot can buck the trend and actually provide me with a winner. Hope I don’t jinx the horse.
Brametot will be held up and will try to come late and fast.
A deserved success there Steve,Well done….As for my bloody ‘Peace Envoy’…Sprinter,’Commonwealth Cup’ winner at 25/1???
May 15, 2017 at 00:02 #1300891Yes the “what used to be until they changed the distance” French Derby is looking like a real cracker but who’d turn up if it was still a mile and a half? Certainly not Al Wukair and probably not Brametot.
Rivet looks like he’ll go close again and maybe Orderofthegarter will re-oppose as well.
