This week marks the second anniversary of the disappearance of a racing dignitary who went to watch ‘The Duel on the Downs’ and never returned. Where he went remains a mystery to this day. All we have to go on is a couple of scribbled notes found near the ship’s masts:
Goodwood themselves showed me how highly they rated the experience of seeing the great match race. They have a new sponsored bar area at the end of the Gordon enclosure lawn, the Tanqueray Bar. The location of this is marked for the terminally blind by four eight foot high flagpoles, each displaying a three foot long Tanqueray banner, wired into position to ensure it would be visible even in a dead calm.
From my usual viewing position at the end of the Gordon stand steps, the four flags completely blocked the view of the racecourse for about 150 yards either side of the 2F pole. When I visited the racecourse office to complain, I was plainly regarded as an irritant.
They can put on Frankel v Usain Bolt next year and I won’t be going anywhere near the place!
Followed by his final correspondence
I’m experiencing the same symptoms as the previous poster and it seems to be something to do with loading adverts.
Frankely I’ve had enough and won’t be posting until the site is sorted out.
What were these symptoms and what happened to Mr Potts? Was it poisoning from too much lead building up in his system? Potts’ disease? Subsequent search parties have returned a complete blank. All theories concerning this greatest of racing mysteries gratefully received.
August 1, 2013 at 21:57 #447287A real shame that AP departed, he was always worth a read. Not just him of course, lots of others like TDK, Smithy, Rory and others all gone. Where are the posters who replaced, and maybe helped to drive out these people? People like rubyisgodinthesaddle were all over the forum like a rash… for five minutes.

No problem – you’re not the first. My namesake had a winner at Wolverhampton one afternoon that was punted a bit, when I was there to watch one of my own horses. I reckon every member of the crowd stopped me to say well done, and Sean Boyce on ATR next morning announced I’d landed a gamble!
I reckon Sizing Europe is a Champion Chase horse rather than going over further – but if the owner starts taking my advice we could end up in the impossible position of Alan Potts acting as racing manager for Alan Potts. Imagine the confusion that could cause.

Shipwrecked but found on a life raft far from life as we know it somewhere in the wide blue yonder. Never did really believe he’d walked the plank
Now that the creaking hull of the good ship TRF has had its barnacles removed and its engine de-coked perhaps Captain Cormack or one of his subalterns could throw the unkempt and emaciated Prof a rope ladder
Desert islands, life rafts and imbibing one’s own urine are unsatisfactory substitutes for good-to-soft going and real ale
August 5, 2013 at 15:30 #447708Well well well. It looks like those search parties I sent out to conduct seismic surveys looking for an underground bunker under Trundle Hill were a waste of time.
He’s on Big Blue, railing against the vandalism that has taken place to the Getting Out Stakes at Windsor on a Monday night.
I’m sure he knows who is responsible for that and I half suspect that recent developments in the waters around Gib are in fact Potts’ men starting a full frontal assault on the authors of
The Report From Billy Mountain

August 5, 2013 at 17:55 #447712Indeed lots of classic posters have departed , the place is like a hotel foyer …busy , at least the management are making it pay
Nowadays Betlarge and Paul O plus TAPK occasionally do very well , drone is outstanding at times , Nathan adds a grin , sadly GingerT still has to have the last word
but where the heck is the king of all posters?????
The outpost is fading , but 10 years ago it was so much better !!!
Glen needs a good drink imo …….
