Sorry sorry that was quite an important bit…Casual Conquest.
May 15, 2008 at 22:10 #163775We know that Tartan Bearer is Stoute’s best for the Derby. But how does Frozen Fire rank in O’Brien’s team for the Derby? Anyone know?
May 15, 2008 at 23:21 #163782O’brien had said that Washington Irving would go for the derrinstown and Kingdom Of Naples would go for the dante and perhaps Frozen Fire would also go for the dante (although frozen fire was entered in the derrinstown).
Ladbrokes derby betting hints that there is one better than Frozen Fire (who admittedly did look like quite a fraillish looking horse in the paddock) in the O’brien yard, as they are openly inviting people to come and back him. Process of elimination could hint at that one being Kingdom Of Naples, but we do not know why he has been pulled out to go to the gallinule yet, It may have been the faster ground at york but then it may bre that he is behind schedule or has gone wrong.
For a first run of the season I didnt think King Of Rome was too bad at lingfield on saturday either.
Im not totally convinced by the dante form today, twice over was reeled in fairly easily by two horses, one of whom didnt look like a monster in the paddock, and the other from a trainer who usually has his at their best at this time of year.
May 15, 2008 at 23:34 #163787King of Rome ran fifth in the Ballysax when pacemaking earlier this season.
I think it may have been intended he would do the same job last Saturday but for a late change of tactics on AV.
Assuming HTN doesn’t run at Epsom and with the Ballydoyle challenge consisting of (relatively-speaking) slow Montjeu’s, they may choose to use a relay of pacemakers to ensure the stiffest of tests.
With an evening meeting at the Curragh on Derby Day this year it will be interesting to see where they go for their riders as they may not have the option of using McDonogh, Berry et al as they did last year.May 16, 2008 at 05:31 #163798EXACTLY!!!
like mick channon said earlier in the week… the horses are there to be run!
Fully agree mate, there no point avoiding the big races if youve got a good chance.
one thing i love about the jumps is they do take each other on…
if kauto star and denman were flat horses, no doubt kauto would have gone to the french version, because it isnt about what the fans want.. its about the potention millions of pounds worth of tadpoles in the horse..
You mean the way Denman and KS avoided each other all season until the Gold Cup and are likely to do so again this season?
Look it…if the horses run they run….its up to the owners and trainers. Bolger clearly does not like Epsom…he is not the first trainer and he will not be the last. Weld’s owners are talking positively about Casual Conquerer running now.
Fair play i suppose you are right there.
May 16, 2008 at 05:35 #163799Manning rode at Naas last night after winning at York on Lush Lashes. So getting back to the Curragh should be no problem for Magnier’s jockeys.Incidentally I do not believe you can judge Montjues by their physical make up.Many look like wet laundry on a windy day.Not to mention their head carriage.Sometimes it belies an incredible turn of foot.At one time it was thought they did not train on but two of the best young hurdlers(Blue Bajan and Won in the Dark) are Montjues. Also they seem to thrive on the top of the ground.
May 16, 2008 at 08:52 #163839Does anyone have any information regarding Luca Cumani’s Curtain Call. Will the horse have another outing before The Derby ?
Goodwood possibly ?

May 16, 2008 at 08:55 #163841Curtain Call goes straight to the Derby according to Luca.
May 16, 2008 at 08:56 #163842Curtain Call is likely (perhaps almost certain IIRC) to go straight to Epsom.
May 16, 2008 at 10:33 #163855I recognise Tartan Bearer as being the type who would thrive in a King George … very much like his brother!
That a Ballydoyle two-start colt on seasonal debut who won his Maiden by a half length at Gowran Park, and outclassed in the Racing Post Trophy; beaten fractionally by a horse who had won a Maiden at Leicester last start.
Spare me. Both these two will not be experienced enough for Epsom IMO.
Twice Over must have tired pretty badly due to the firm ground. He ended up just holding out a horse who looks one for the sprinting ranks in the Craven. I think he is over-rated to the absolute full.
If Casual Conquest appears at Epsom – he wins. That Derrinstown victory was too impressive to have one muddling over who is Derby worthy. Come on. He is looking at you.
Couldn’t the bookies shout the supplementary fee? Makes sure that there would be some solid money pouring in.
It would be possible for Kingdom Of Naples to clean up the Gallinule without much harm done and the books quickly cut him to a 2nd or 3rd elect.

from the RP
CASUAL CONQUEST’S owners indicated they are prepared topay the £75,000 to supplement their colt for the Vodafone Derby – should trainer Dermot Weld give his seal of approval.
The six-length winner of last Sunday’s Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown leapt to the top of the betting with some firms in a currently cloudy Epsom picture.
Weld did not enter Casual Conquest in the Derby at an earlier stage, preferring at the weekend to pinpoint the French or Irish equivalents as more probable options.
Stan Cosgrove, the manager of his ownersMoyglare Stud Farm, said: "He still has his options open and it’s a possibility to go to Epsom, but he’s just had the two runs and he might just be a little inexperienced.
"We’ll see how everything goes for a while – we only need to supplement him four days before the race."Reflecting on Leopardstown, Cosgrove continued: "He annihilated them. He’s a great big horse and that was only his first run of the year.
"It’s really up to the trainer and the jockey (to make a decision about supplementing). Regarding the money, there’s no problem with that."
May 16, 2008 at 14:13 #163906ATR quotes Pat as saying he would love to take him to Epsom and that the course would be no problem.
