An absolute machine of a filly.
To win easily after that first bend mishap was unbelievable.
November 1, 2024 at 23:27 #1711409Victoria Regina!
That sceptre blaze she bears befits her
“Pilot error” on the first bend is probably being kind!
Zafonic influence in her background may have helped her tonight
November 1, 2024 at 23:56 #1711414Think it was daddy’s influence that kicked in off that home turn – she got proper mullered on that first bend and must have a great temperament to put it behind her and go get them.
Has now won on firm, good to firm, good and soft ground and taken G1s at 6f, 7f and a mile – obviously the best two year old filly of the season but does she now have a case for being the best 2 yr old full stop?
November 2, 2024 at 00:00 #1711415Not sure it was ryans fault he tried to set her alight out the stalls, shes anything but slow but she was off her feet for 1/2f
Arguement to be made shes the best 2yo filly ive ever seen, we often talk about the colts like pinatubo, COT etc, ill be surprised if shes ever beaten, assuming she trains on, she will though, shes a specimen, has a frame to grow into
No clue what price she is for the guineas, irrespective of the godolphin horse, i doubt theyll be anything that can get near her
She’d hammer the 2yo colts, TLIW included, her figures lto where spectacular, havent had a chance to look at these yet but theyll be the same
I dont know what theyll rate her but ittl be up there with the best ever at her age
November 2, 2024 at 00:09 #1711417Yes, she ran like a machine. No signs of greenness, no worries despite being stuck on the inside.
If she trains on she could easily trouble the colts next year.
November 2, 2024 at 00:20 #1711419Wasn’t Ryan’s fault, even though he had to chase her out of the stalls to get a slot, he had done that and then Totally Justified and Manuel Franco just came down on her and she lost several lengths because of it – not sure what he was thinking as he didn’t have anything on his outside forcing him into the rail, so it was just very poor riding on his part and was quite dangerous to boot.
The offical ratings are:
Shadow of Light on 119
Lake Victoria 118 (prior to today’s run)
The Lion In Winter 117Timeform are:
Shadow of Light 120
Lake Victoria 119p
The Lion In Winter 119pNovember 2, 2024 at 01:47 #1711430He was forced to snatch up by the jockey in yellow coming over.
However, it may sound daft but it’s possible the interference actually helped her. Ryan was trying to get a prominent early position. Had he got that position the pace tells you the leaders went far too fast. Second, third and fourth (a 13/1 shot and two 45/1) all came from well off the pace. On ratings LV had a hell of a lot in hand of those three coming into the race. So beating them as she did can be to a certain degree expected. What it did show was Lake Victoria stays a mile well, but although a bloody good performance, it was no Arazi.Value Is EverythingNovember 2, 2024 at 09:08 #1711450“It was no Arazi”
Absolutely correct, Ginge.
There is a tendency for hyperbole to kick in immediately after a visually impressive performance; once the initial excitement settles, an objective look can be given.
Lake Victoria’s form was clearly superior to that of her rivals going into the race and she has simply overcome trouble in running to beat inferior opposition.
As for all the inevitable “best ever” nonsense, I’ll be surprised if she matches the 127 Timeform awarded Lady Aurelia in 2016 (the brilliant Forest Flower was given the same rating thirty years earlier), and she won’t get anywhere near the 133 the Halifax organisation handed to Jacinth in Racehorses of 1972.
November 2, 2024 at 10:25 #1711462Not bothered regards ratings. I just enjoy good horses and she is top drawer and I think still improving. Next year is another thing. If she trains on and ,as seems likely, grows into her frame she could be very very good. Ryan picking up nearly 90 grand with easy winners. He’s worth the big bucks and has a knack in the big races of taking the right course. Auguste rodin a prime example. Btw if shadow of light is 120, what is expanded after 2 runs. Sinndaar was beaten in a group one on his second start and boy he turned out damn good.
November 2, 2024 at 13:19 #1711497Shadow Of Light does not get the 120 rating from the Dewhurst, Mickey. In the Dewhurst he was on the wrong side of the course and only won because he was so much better than the others. Expanded has a lot of scope for further improvement, but – at the moment – he’s rated far more than a “neck” inferior to Shadow Of Light… who gets his rating from the Middle Park.
Didn’t Sinndar win the National Stakes on his second start?
Value Is EverythingNovember 2, 2024 at 15:27 #1711523For clarification, my comment of: “obviously the best two year old filly of the season does she now have a case for being the best 2 yr old full stop?” was actually in the context of this year’s crop of 2 yr olds and not the best 2 yr old ever (which she clearly isn’t).
Don’t recall anyone mentioning it being in Arazi’s class either, as that is a visual performance that still defies belief even now and for me is one that will never be matched by another 2 yr old – sadly that was his zenith as, after knee surgery, in his 3 yr old year season he was a shadow of the 2 yr old that wiped the floor with everyone and managed just two wins at Listed and G2 level.
November 5, 2024 at 16:38 #1711933As always glad, ratings from those days are absolutely useless, they mean absolutely nada, how we rate horses has SIGNIFICANTLY improved since 1972, entitled to your opinion of course, as am i, her timefigures to her stride to her size and scope and most importantly her form, all point towards she looks as good a 2yo filly as theres ever been and id have absolutely no doubt that when the dust settles, her form will eclipse lady aurelias form
Lady aurelias 127 wasnt deserved, to even remotely suggest shes a better filly at 2 than LV is fairly comical.
As said above, the 1972 comparison is funny, shed hammer anything from then if it was remotely possible to compare. But its not and theres no way to analyse, half the tracks couldnt measure out the correct distance for a start
November 6, 2024 at 00:59 #1711962Please explain to me ham, why you rate the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf second third and fourth so highly – May Day Ready, Nitrogen and Fiery Lucy?
