BetFred go 7/2 Tartan Bearer. Surely a mistake, m’lud!
May 15, 2008 at 16:32 #163697I’d be gobsmacked if Rio de La Plata stayed 1½m.
May 15, 2008 at 16:47 #163702It’s a shame Casual Conquest couldn’t have met Twice Over when that horse still had an unbeaten record. Any coming together would now see the Irish horse at very restrictive odds. For me he is in a different league.
May 15, 2008 at 17:00 #163709I just watched the race and I love the way tartan bearer runs, like stoute says he can sit behind anything at home and it proved today he loves coming through horses and i think he idles at the front, thats why ryan pulled him over to go head to head with frozen fire. The horse got his head down and looked as though he had the attitude of "your not getting past me" and stuck his head out to the line.
I think the only serious competition he would have in the derby is curtain call, but i dont like it when a horse keeps pulling out of races with excuses. So I think Tartan will take the derby.
It amazes me why obrien pulled kingdom of naples out of the dante and leaves a horse who looks to be running for a place in. explains a lot.
Will be watching kingdom of naples very closely though as he has obviously pulled him out and put him in the other race for a reason
May 15, 2008 at 17:22 #163714I was watching the racing on Channel 4 this afternoon, and when they interviewed Tartan Bearer’s lass and she said ‘he’s going to win’, I thought to myself..you know, she’s right..I guess thay all say that about their horses, but this time I really felt it was going to happen..could’ve kicked myself when he did!
May 15, 2008 at 17:32 #163718Does Twice Over’s performance today suggest to anyone…
When a horse is in form and has the form to win / run well in a classic, it should run in that classic (2000 G)?
If Lush Lashes is fit and well at the beginning of June, run her! She might not be in the same form Irish Oaks day.
Ditto New Approach etc.

Value Is EverythingMay 15, 2008 at 17:33 #163719I dont know what to make of Kingdom Of Naples, O’brien is very secretive with his derby horses. But I remember a similar situation with fire and rain two seasons ago, he was pulled out the dante at about the same stage and due to go for the gallinule, where he never turned up. Nothing would please me more than Kingdom Of Naples winning but it is hard to enthuse at present.
I wouldnt write curtain call off just yet, he had a very good reason to be pulled from the lingfield trial and cumani appears to know exactly what he is doing with him. On 2yo form and breeding Curtain Call is possibly the pick in my view (obviously excluding casual conquest who was awesome on sunday), and he has an easy trial win behind him.
In recent seasons stoute has had his horses tuned for full smoke in the trials and it remains to be seen what racing on a faster surface will have taken out of the trial winners so close to epsom as the trials are usually run on good or softer ground.
There is also the prospect of non-stayers from the trials if the ground at epsom is slower than the trials. And I would include Lush Lashes in that, as I am still not 100% she would fully stay at epsom, but would love to see her have a go.

like mick channon said earlier in the week… the horses are there to be run!

Fully agree mate, there no point avoiding the big races if youve got a good chance.

one thing i love about the jumps is they do take each other on…
if kauto star and denman were flat horses, no doubt kauto would have gone to the french version, because it isnt about what the fans want.. its about the potention millions of pounds worth of tadpoles in the horse..

You mean the way Denman and KS avoided each other all season until the Gold Cup and are likely to do so again this season?
Look it…if the horses run they run….its up to the owners and trainers. Bolger clearly does not like Epsom…he is not the first trainer and he will not be the last. Weld’s owners are talking positively about Casual Conquerer running now.
May 15, 2008 at 20:23 #163753My eyes popped out of my head when i saw the price,,,
crazyFlash…without stating the obvious, surely no hard and fast assumptions can be made about any horses rating at this stage of their career?
Yo Clive…..Flash? is that the guy who said fist dont know what hes talking about when he said" Twice over is a totally false fav for the derby" ?
Of course I ‘m the court jester and I am always wrong
May 15, 2008 at 21:09 #163761I have no betting interests in the Derby as of yet but when Rio de la Plata won at Goodwood last year I thought that he would make a possible Derby horse and I still believe this. 25’s available and higher on betfair, and with him being the only Godolphin Classic contender to have shown any form this year then I think he is quite likely to get a run at Epsom.
May 15, 2008 at 21:17 #163762Will Saeed be allowed to administer oxygen at Tattenham Corner? It’s the only way I see Rio de la Plata getting the trip.
May 15, 2008 at 21:20 #163763I quite like Rio De La Plata at that price but if CC runs then he will take an awful lot of beating.
May 15, 2008 at 21:23 #163765The owners comments today suggests they are more than happy to pay the supplimentary fee if the trainer feels the horse was ready for the race. He stressed that the horse had only come to himself in the last two weeks and for that reason they would be worried that his inexperience on the track and at home might find him out at Epsom and set him back. So it sounds like it’s up the the trainer, a tricky balancing act of getting the horse ready for Epsom but not pushing him too hard to quickly.
May 15, 2008 at 21:32 #163767Which horse are you referring to, Aidan?
Colin
