The idea of the 3m7f H’cap Chase has been squashed by Gillespie, apparently after he received a phone call from Uttoxeter.
However, he is still keen to add two more races to the Cheltenham Festival, and the bookmakers are fully behind this..
I’m suprised that Uttoxeter didn’t bite Gillespie’s hand off! What a chance to offload a £100K race – they could have replaced it with a £2K seller. They seem to be downgrading all their other big meetings.
How about a Novices Hunter Chase (apprx 3miles) – unlikely as this is not bookmaker "friendly". Also, make the Kim Muir a veterans chase.

Northern Racing do have a phobia with races longer than 3m.
Sedgefield last week used to have a 3m3f Hunter Chase and that is now 2m4f.
A lot of their meetings have been missing 3m3f Chases which is a shame as they always fill up.
Uttoxeter dont seem to have 3m2f Chases anymore yet on Sunday and Monday Fontwell and Hereford had 3m4f and 3m7f Chases.
Regarding Cheltenham How about the old Ascot Novice Chase which was for horses yet to win a Chase.
Even better a 4x1Mile Steeplechase Relay race starting at the 4m start with jockeys passing a whip at each change over point.
