i have zaintar at big price for the world hurdle , hope hell run in it

Unfortunately mate there’s no chance of that as the owner has backed Zaynar at huge odds for the CH. Unless of course something like Solwhit kicked him into touch and it looked to be a waste of time. Persoanlly I think he will end up not coming close to winning the Champion Hurdle but will become a top class staying hurdler in the future.
December 15, 2009 at 21:07 #264012Too dangerous to say Zaynar won’t come close, while his Triumph looked workmanlike, his opposition was Walkon who went on to crush his next opponents and Geraghty said Zaynar had loads left in the tank, like Hurricane Fly and he has a very smart pedigree and has the qualities you look for in a Champion Hurdler winner.
I wouldnt back Zaynar at current odds cause he will go into the Champion Hurdle undefeated it looks like and I reckon the punters will still comee in for something else, I see Zaynar maybe even touching 7’s and if he does I will be ploughing on to him.
He also has that important Cheltenham form which the likes of Solwhit, Hurricane Fly do not have. And Binocular has yet to win there. Celestial Halo beat Franchoek who went on to do nothhing and he still went close in the CH and I think Walkon is in every way superior to Franchoek, its just a shame Walkon is out for the season.
Donna’s Palm at crazy odds at Betfair is another horse to consider imo.

All his Cheltenham form is on the New Course though. The Old Course presents more of a test of speed which would be my one reservation about Zaynar.
Agree with you about Donnas Palm. He was wrong in the second half of last year and people have read too much into that form. I know a few people close to the yard who rate him higher than Go Native and Muirhead.

ZAYNAR IS NO CHAMPION HURDLER
One of the first lessons I learned about jump racing was that there are two kinds of top class hurdler. The first is the sort that wins tactically run trial races like those ZAYNAR (27) has mopped up this season. The second is the sort that beats a huge field off a scorching early gallop to win the Champion Hurdle.
Zaynar certainly looked good winning the Relkeel Hurdle. But he only beat five rivals, one of whom fell. And the pace slowed down in the middle of the race which enabled him to use his superior turn of foot to beat the proper national hunt sorts he was racing against in a sprint finish.
I really can’t understand what all the fuss is about with Zaynar. Not one of the horses he’s beaten into second place in his five hurdle wins could be considered anything like a Champion Hurdle candidate. He’s never earned better than a Listed class speed rating from me. And he’s hardly a great physical specimen, being only medium sized and rather light framed. He’s built and bred for flat racing, which explains that great turn of foot he has.
The clincher is that Zaynar will only be five years of age when the Champion Hurdle comes around. Since See You Then won the Champion Hurdle back in 1985 only one horse that young has taken the big race even though 72 have tried. This was Katchit in 2008.
Katchit had massively more experience than most five year old hurdlers. He’d started racing at two and had racked up 28 lifetime starts before winning the Champion Hurdle.
Katchit had run in a dozen hurdle races before taking the Champion Hurdle too, just one less than the record for a five year old in the last fifteen years.
Zaynar didn’t start racing till he was three. He’s had just eight lifetime starts and only five hurdle races. So he doesn’t have the seasoning to overcome a lack of maturity like Katchit did.
December 16, 2009 at 11:26 #264066Mordin still smarting from following Detroit City over the Champion Hurdle cliff, I see.
December 16, 2009 at 17:15 #264123Frm that write up Mordin would never had followed Zaynar for the Triumph.
"Not one of the horses he’s beaten into second place in his five hurdle wins could be considered anything like a Champion Hurdle candidate. "
Does the clown not realise he has beaten a Champion Hurdler the one he keeps going on about in his write up. Fair enough if he means Katchit is not a candidate this year but I found his piece pretty bizarre, recent trends I think sow that youngsters are having more chance of success
December 17, 2009 at 23:25 #264309He said that not one of the horses he has beaten would be considered a Champion Hurdler, but surely Walkon could be good enough to give any of the top ones a race. The trick with Mordin is to back what he goes against. After Big Zeb beat Made In Taipan he gave him a great review, the mans the kiss of death imo!!

Looking through the recent 5 year olds who failed to win the Champion Hurdle it’s quite a list.
Celestial Halo
Binocular
Crack Away Jack
Punjabi
Afsoun
Detroit City
Al EileYou have to go back along way to find another decent 5 year old that ran in the race.
All of these with luck in running could have won a Champion Hurdle but as a 5 year old none did.
Binocular rated by AP McCoy as the best he’s ever sat on(Hurdler) couldn’t do it and although Pujabi eventually did he himself came no where near to winning at 5.
Punjabi is living proof of how much a year can change a horse and how good you have to be to win as a 5 year old.
Katchit was the exception to the rule but he was also one of the best Triumph Hurdle winners in it’s history. Zaynar’s performance doesn’t even come close.
A quick glance at that list tells anyone just what Zaynar is up against and my bet is Victor Chandler will lose his money and if he’s any sense he’ll be backing him now for next years World Hurdle where the horse should be going this year……………….total waste of time running him IMO Lay of the year!!!
December 18, 2009 at 11:00 #264361Fist, on what basis do you consider Zaynar’s Triumph win as "not coming close" to Katchit’s?
The official handicapper and Timeform both have Zaynar’s Triumph rated the higher of the pair, and I confess I have it rated higher too.
Last year’s Triumph has also been franked in any number of races since, and looks just about as solid juvenile form as you could hope to ask for.
I think you are seriously under-estimating the horse
– he is a definite player, as far as I’m concerned. - AuthorPosts
