I agree Reet.
He is a very good 2 miler, little point in stepping him up in trip whilst he is so good at the minimum distance.
December 9, 2009 at 09:32 #262908Agree also; but wonder if that stamina will always make him play second fiddle to a speedier horse come March.
December 11, 2009 at 16:26 #263384Nicky Hendersdon talking about Punjabi & Zaynar!
December 11, 2009 at 18:25 #263396Interesting interview regarding Zaynar.
Looks and sounds more and more like the one come March!
Only a loon would back Punjabi for this – Halo it is.

You guys are having a laugh? Cheltenham was made for him but he’s been downright ordinary elsewhere up to now.
Won a poor novice at Newbury, got absolutely stuffed at Ascot by Sentry Duty getting 3lbs, went to Cheltenham and won the Triumph. Went to Aintree got stuffed by Binocular, went to Ascot got stuffed by Binocular, beat a positively unfit horse in Osana at Sandown, went to Cheltenham finished 2nd in the CH. Goes to Aintree and gets stuffed over 2m4f then this season wins an incredibly poor limited handicap. Now it’s back to Cheltenham to face an unfit Punjabi….he better win or there’s no where for him to go.
December 12, 2009 at 15:02 #2635404/6 CH at the moment…Punjabi it is then!
December 12, 2009 at 15:11 #263542Champion Hurdle for Celestial Halo?, my ass!
December 12, 2009 at 15:14 #263543POP
December 12, 2009 at 15:14 #263544What is going on….the Champion Hurdle is a complete and utter mess.
These Novices of 09 will win it this year
Punjabi
Celastial Halo
BinocularForget about it.
Zaynar
Go Native
Hurricane FlyAre the 3 to concentrate on for me….and am seriously considering backing Zaynar now for the CH
December 12, 2009 at 15:22 #263547I wouldn’t rule out Celestial Halo. I’ve long been of the opinion that the horse does not stay any further than two miles and the Champion Hurdle track is less stiff than todays, Celestial looked a tired horse at the last.
Punjabi ran well, Khyber Kim put himself in the Champion Hurdle picture but I doubt he’ll be good enough come March.
December 12, 2009 at 15:35 #263549In retrospect, I can’t help but think that Dunguib would have cantered all over this field today. Surely the Champion Hurdle beckons for the top Irish novice.
I know he was conceding weight to the winner today but, Celestial Halo just hasn’t got the requisite turn of foot to win a Champion Hurdle – imo.

Couldn’t agree with you more, Ian.
Many appear to have forgotten, or simply ignored the fact, that Punjabi was slaughtered by Ashkazar and White Oak in the Kingwell Hurdle before he won the Champion Hurdle last season.
Celestial Halo was well beaten by Binocular in this race last year before gaining his revenge at The Festival.
10/1 Celestial Halo for the CH? Think I’ll have some of that. Complete over-reaction.
Punjabi travelled like the winner for most of the way before tiring. He will improve for that and he won’t be far away come March.

I have a theory about Celestial Halo.
PN would have him fit for this but with Cheltenham on his mind he wouldn’t be 110% like he will be in March. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s sent horses for races like this and overdid what he reckons is leaving something to work on.
I think he’s affected more than most horses would be and it takes tons of his performance unless he is 110% and would ignore this form.

What’s going on is people are taking things too seriously. Come March we’ll be right back where we started with Binocular and Hurricane Fly heading the market…..Zaynar wouldn’t win a CH if he set of the day before….keep your money mate trust me.

Word perfect there Fist!I am dissapointed but not too downbeat, better ground will suit and i am still not convinced Khyber wants it too fast!Beaten fair and square today, but today is not the day that counts!Thank Goodness!
December 12, 2009 at 15:59 #263556Zaynar has been shortened for beating a field seventeen pounds below him (at best) on ratings. Plain ridiculous. Interestingly at the weights Celestial Halo still comes out of todays race the best horse.
Celestial Halo, Punjabi, Binocular and Solwhit are all good prices for the Champion Hurdle and all are sure to be thereabouts come March.
Seems bookis and some punters alike are favouring novices over established horses that have been there and done it (Paddy Power have Dunguib as fav with a run
) – very dangerous.December 12, 2009 at 16:00 #263557I have backed Zaynar now for the Champion Hurdle
I feel a novice will win the CH in 09, I can’t believe that Celastial Halo was absoutely destroyed by Kyber Kim or whatever its called today. Sure fitness could be a issue but after all the Grade 1s so far its clear that the novices are a cracking bunch and have beaten there more expierenced comrades easily so far this year.
Hurricane Fly
Zaynarare my 2 for the Champion Hurdle as we speak.
