The London Real Food Festival, held at Earls Court the week after the Guineas in May. Full of great artizan and small food producers from flavoured oils to venison Sausages, from smoked Garlic to sloe gin. Brilliant, make it a must for next year.
Thans for that Bob – that sounds my sort of Festiva – I will have to put a note in my diary for next year.l
July 9, 2009 at 12:54 #238672In a similar vein, are either of you likely to be at the Great British Beer Festival in three weeks’ time?

‘fraid not – my beer drinking days are long gone
July 9, 2009 at 21:34 #238764Never been to a beer festival. Like a nice pint (much less frequently these days) but drinking in some big open space with a load of overgrown farting smelly students with beards… noooooooo
Music festivals? Always seem awful. More overgrown stinking students but this time spaced out on mushrooms or whatever. Hate tents too Liking jazz, soul and the smaller ensembles in classical best, i much prefer intimate venues. Ronnie Scotts say…
Like the sound of that food one though Bob
Anyone been to the Festival of erotica at olympia?
July 11, 2009 at 16:03 #239129Domingo Rociero – La Linea De La Concepcion.
Not really a festival as one great big massive booze up with Spanish music and a giant waterfight – great fun though

Don’t know about GBBF but the beer festivals I’ve attended are mostly populated by 30-plusers.
Many have beards, some fart but no more than any other group of people.Great days out if you want your tastebuds tingling!
August 10, 2009 at 02:39 #243236IMHO, Gay Pride.
The tranny float last year was awesome.

Sounds quite dull, i mean who wants to see a Lorry full of old wireless sets.
Yeah..but the cross-dressing cuties selling the wirelesses are really friendly and love to bitch about life. I think you have to embrace the occcaison – wear something luminous and rubber and bring along your appliance.
in 2005 Canterbury Pride was wicked. Lotsa transgenders and a few binathropods, plus plenty of straight-acting fun to be had, too.

Hi Jeremy,
I’ve just seen this now. Did you go, and how was it?
I went once, it must have been 3 or 4 years ago. What a great evening, and believe it nor not Clive, not many students around(!) – mostly twenty or thirty somethings. Good concept, whereby you pay a deposit for a pint glass with a handle, and hand this over at various bars, selling beer from different countries. I was certainly worse for wear at the end of the night, and struggled to Goodwood the next day to see Ouija Board beat Alexander Goldrun. Good times!
August 11, 2009 at 22:32 #243418The only festival I’ve been to is Reading, am hoping to change that come March!

Didn’t manage in the end, alas – picked up some extra work over the weekend – so that’s the first one I’ve missed since moving daan sarf. Made sure I compensated with a nice bottle or two of Samuel Smiths oatmeal stout (sourced from the Cartmel shop a while ago) after work, though!

Daren’t go to a beer festival without lying to me missus as she thinks my Saturday bottle of Old Speckled Hen is the ultimate in debauchery – apart from that she is lovely and is perfectly happy when the point to point season begins so as she can clean the house in peace.
When I get the date of next year’s Real Food Festival I will post it on the Forum.
August 17, 2009 at 03:38 #244257Hitchhiked to the Reading Festival from Deal. Got a lift from a Belgian at Dover. When he found out the Police was playing (1979?), he decided to go himself, and gave me a lift all the way there! Managed to persuade him not to go anti-clockwise around roundabouts. No sleeping bag, so slept, or rather shivered in a horizontal position, with a piece of plastic over me. The journey back was more traumatic than the one there.
Went with a couple I knew to the GBBF. Met a nice American at the Perry stall, who ran a micro-brewery and a newsletter/magazine in the States.
Have also streaked at a beer festival. (Catford.)
Surprised that no one has mentioned the Hay Literary or the Cambridge Jazz yet.
June 20, 2010 at 11:13 #15419Tips needed on which bands to look out for this year. A bit out of touch at the moment; still listening to Kasabian, Yeasayer and Hazel Winter with the Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons and Noah and the Whale lot drifting in and out. The Independent recommend Midlake, The xx, Stornaway, and Crystal Castles. Hope it’s on throughout the night as I’m looking after sleepless baby next week which, at my age is very tiring.
June 21, 2010 at 17:50 #302494Moe, of the ones you mention, I’d probably plump for Crystal Castles, but they are an "acquired taste", and Stornoway have their moments too.
Not going either, but I’d probably wuss-out and try and catch a bit of Keane, or re-live a bit of my youth with Ash! Haven’t got round to seeing the full line-up though, if I see anything that I’d recommend I’ll let you know. From what I have seen though, I think it’s far from a Vintage Line-up I’m afraid.
June 21, 2010 at 18:26 #302500That’s what I thought, and then just thought I was growing old, especially as, as time goes by I miss John Peel more and more.
June 21, 2010 at 21:02 #302536Personally i woule go see crystal castles but amongst a lot of rock and roll, i like a bit of electro, especially at a festival. Really trying 2 get back from saudi 4 oxegen 2 see arcade fire. Last year i youtubed almost every act i hadnt heard of prior to the line up…
