Overdose is the favourite at 9/4, I reckon Stone of Folca has a good e/w chance with his blistering speed but I do still think Overdose will be too good for them, hoping for a big run from an old favourite of mine Borderlescott.

I have no idea what Henry Candy’s doing with Markab & I’m actually very concerned. I’d hoped he’d skip this & go straight to the Jubilee, but I can’t see what running him here will achieve. Very disappointed.

I had a my best ever bet on Kingsgate Native at Royal Ascot couple of years ago, he ran twice, second time unbelievably 40/1 was offered in the morning by William Hill, I put a score on, what a thrill .. but, really, after winning this last year, what a disappointment he was. Overdose seems to me a wonderful opportunity to win some money, 9/4 seems generous .. IMHO

Very interesting to see how Overdose performs, Betfred were 5/2 earlier in the week, which I had a little dabble at but not with any major confidence, think anything under 2/1 and the value has gone.

Couldn’t back Kingsgate Native with anyones money.

To contradict Z I think Markab will win!! The only danger is whether Kingsgate Native is wound up which I hope he isn’t!!

Henry Candy’s horses are flying and I think Markab’s last run was a pipe cleaner for this!!

I’ve gone nuts over the years backing Kingsgate Native – such a frustrating horse in the last couple of seasons! He can produce occasional marvellous runs, sometimes travels well and finds nothing and sometimes just never shows up.

Who knows how much ability Overdose retains?

With these two as the market leaders, then Markab/Tangerine Trees, whose best achievements came when their main oppo were over-the-top or unfit, it’s a no bet race for me. It should be informative though.

If you pushed me, I’d plump for old Borderlescott each-way.

    Unhealthy drift on

    Hamish Mcgonagall

which is strange as this horse looks capable of possibly being able to mix it in Group company this season. This race looks iffy for some of these and Mcgonagall comes into the race in his best form.

Can beat Prohibit and that rival is half the price.

Perhaps some of the layers have been to the pub this evening… hoping so!!

    Tangerine Trees

all the way for me,who knows how much he has improved since winning his last race at Newmarket keeping up the momentum on the undulating Rowley Mile leading from start to finish.
There’s no uphill finish tomorrow and he’s going to feel like he’s been let loose..
Each way price around 11/1 at the moment.

    Overdose

has never won on Good to Firm so that’s a negative for me although if he’s as good as they say it shouldn’t stop him..Jac

Love to see Overdose win, but he’s never beaten a really good horse and might be Overrated (see what I’ve done there  ). There’s also pace to consider, being a front-runner. Markab, Hamish, Tangerine, Rose, all like to blaze a trail.

Kingsgate Native is a hard horse to predict, but I suspect he may be best fresh these days, temperament-wise (not physically). At 5/1 he’s worth the risk. Especially as a likely strong pace should suit him.

Markab has the pen, but is the best horse in this field. Did well compared to the others to race prominently at York and thought to have needed that race. Although a prominent runner, has ran well when being taken on infront. Saved on him at 10’s.

Sole Power is interesting, but the Nunthorpe is a stand out performance and when two rank outsiders reach the frame must be doubts about the form.

Tangerine Trees dictated at Newmarket, remains to be seen if he can maintain the improvement in a more competitive race.

Backed Rose Blossom at York where she was unable to get to the front after a tardy start. Has tremendous speed when in the clear, suspect she’ll be gobbled up close home on this more demanding 5f.

Prohibit is attractively priced at 16/1, seems to be coming to hand gradually and a strong pace will bring out the best in him.

    Borderlescott isn’t getting any younger.

Group Therepy has changed trainers since his good form.

Hamish McGonagall has a chance, but possibly too many here to take him on up front.

Stone Of Folca isn’t up to this standard.

Three year old New Planet is interesting, could improve but was not fast enough in the Flying Childers, so doubt if he has the pace for this on reappearance.

Lucikly he isn’t facing any good ones today. I make him a good bet at 3s. The form of Kingsgate Native’s win last year is gash.

I was a racemeeting in Germany last weekend, where I had a very interesting conversation with a stablelass who had been speaking to Andreas Suborics the day before, and there was two things in the main that worried him about todays race – the ground, and if he would be taken on upfront. I think to see Overdose at his very best, he needs to break quickest of all, and the ground needs to be no quicker than good. From a personal point of view, if this is the case, then I would be a bit worried about him going for the Kings Stand Stakes – I expect the ground will be fast, and I’m sure he will be taken on again. Personally, I think we’ll see the real Overdose in the Abbaye – the ground should be softer, and maybe he might be able to dictate like he did in 2008.

Last year, I was at Hoppegarten with Overdoses former trainer Sandor Ribarski who showed me pictures of his injured hoof, and they were pretty nasty. I’m not a vet, but I’m pretty sure a hoof shouldn’t be blood-red in colour – it really looked red raw, and Sandor even then said to me that fast ground can aggravate the injury. I just hope he comes out of the race OK, but in my opinion, I would run him somewhere where there is more give in the ground. One thing is for sure though – I certainly wouldn’t write him off just yet!
