He was trained by John Webber, always thought he’d have fared better in The National, but pulled up on his only go.
January 9, 2015 at 00:48 #500835Good reading your thoughts on Day 1 Gord, best of luck, especially with Rock On Ruby, and Our Father

Not too many other fancies for the other races on Day 1, though I have bet Thomas Crapper for The Novice Chase.
I’ve not bet Our Father yet, but I will do, and after betting him the last twice, he’s a winner waiting to happen, really well handicapped. I’ve a few more on the radar for that race including Saint Are (maybe not quick enough though), Oscar Fortune (or whatever race he goes for), Pendra, and Ely Brown.
Look forward to Day 2 selections.
I’ll maybe put up some selections myself tomorrow.
January 9, 2015 at 08:51 #500843Great read as always Gord, I’m normally in the same camp as you but Day One we differ but can see why you have opted for the ones you have, il put mine up in the hope that you don’t mind!
Supreme: Silver Concorde EW and Nicholls Canyon
Arkle: Vautour
Champion: I am firmly in the TNO camp and have 11/2 but Faugheen looks class and have backed him in trebles just in case!
Festival Chase: agree with Our Father as he has been set up for this, clear as owt!!
Mares: I have been backing Glens Melody EW regularly and if Annie doesn’t rock up here will win
NH Chase: having backed Don Poli at big odds I’m gutted he is RSA bound but have covered that race too as I love the horses chance, I’m on The Young Master win only and have wasted money EW on Very Wood at 25sJanuary 9, 2015 at 11:00 #500855Keep posting your own selections here guys this is where the Tigers roam,we dont pussyfoot about in DLAPS,Confidence is King remember and the only way to gain it is by expressing yourself, once you have it and that only comes by being proved right more times than not its keeping it,easier said than done but TAPK wasn’t born a legend remember.
January 9, 2015 at 11:11 #500858Day 2,
Neptune hurdle 21/2m
Tricky, tricky, tricky this one.The obvious horse for this is
Shaneshill
and at 10/1 he’s worth the risk, target wise.He met a good one in ‘No more Heroes’ and I hope that fellow goes for the Albert Bartlett.I cant see ‘L’ami Serge’ taking this route but ‘Douvan’ could easily step up in trip.I do believe the talkin horse ‘Tell us More’ is definitely being targeted solely with this race in mind and saw an unfit beast the other day get beat.I’m certainly not as confident as some about this fellow as I much prefer form in the book for a Neptune sort so my tentative selection is Willies Wylie horse.I’m not a ‘Parlour Games’ fan at all even though connections rate him highly.
Edit 07/02/15
,Money talks and Willie Mullins stable are shouting
Alvisio Ville
for this,20/1 was freely available and now he’s 7/1.TAPK has missed the boat for this but still sails first class on the next one out having grabbed 10/1.I rate this horse highly and expect Champion hurdle quotes after tomorrows ‘Delloitte’ romp!

Selection,; Shaneshill 10/1 e/w,Alvisio Ville 10/1 e/w
January 9, 2015 at 11:26 #500861RSA 3m
Another fav race of mine and again the old will he/wont he run in this? question surfaces but at 25/1
Rule the World
is the over-priced horse of the race, his form is that of an RSA horse and potential Gold cup horse so I’m on e/w at the moment keeping my fingers crossed. My main fancy for this ‘was’
Saphir du Rheu
16/1 but he’s still a great big baby and needs to grow up fast if he’s even going to line up,his jumping is good but he cant find a leg when he needs one and that concerns me,I haven’t lost faith in him yet though.Another horse I’ve been lucky with is
Whisper
but I have taken 33’s about him winning the World hurdle a while back so I’d prefer him not to run in this.’Coneygree’ is another ‘Carruthers’ a grand sort but not an RSA horse,’Kings Palace’ is too short for what he achieves he let his supporters down at last years festival and I dont trust him.Anyone who’s got double figures on ‘Don Poli’ will be sitting comfortably knowing he is a proper RSA horse too but at the prices I’m going to have a sneaky tilt at
Rule the World
to make up for my dissapointment in ‘First Lieutenent’ getting beat in this.
Edit 15/01/15
Big day tomorrow for
Rule the world
,2 circuits of Naas will decide whether my RSA horse takes this route or the JLT.Anything other than a victory I’m afraid just wont do against these.
Edit,03/02/15
,this is still a tricky one,I have usually nailed my colours to the mast of one by now but am finding it harder than normal this year.I’m still tentatively siding with
Rule the World
.
Selection, Rule The World, 50/1,25/1
.
January 9, 2015 at 12:46 #500871The Wednesday’s my least favourite day of The Festival Gord, and even the highlight of the day, The RSA, I can’t really find one to bet at the moment. I’ve bet Rule The World (and Whisper) for The World Hurdle, but I’d agree that The RSA looks ideal for him. I like Gdc’s’s shout for The Young Master as well, he was one of my daft bets for The Gold Cup. I’ve bet Seeyouatmidnight for The RSA, but with him looking like a "no show" then it’s no bet for the timebeing.
The only 2 I’m planning to bet Ante-Post for day 2 are
Get Me Out Of Here
(Shock Horror) for The Coral Cup, and
Quantitativeeasing
for The Cross Country.
Day 3 and although I’ve bet others, I like John’s Spirit for The Ryanair. I might take the NTD route and chance
Splash Of Ginge
for The JLT, and
Sybarite
or
Trustan Times
for The Pertemps, but early days, especially for The Pertemps, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on
Top Wood
tomorrow as well. I’ll also hopefully get a second chance to see
Cause of Causes
win The Kim Muir.
January 9, 2015 at 14:39 #500873Novices Handicap Ch 21/2m.
The horse I’ve selected for this looks a proper 21/2m sort,he ran ‘Stellar Notion’ close at Kempton and even though the winner looked the better horse I have a sneaky feeling the placings could be reversed at Cheltenham.
Selection,; Knock House 16/1 e/w.
Do you remember Knock Hill Gord? I think it was thirty years ago he plied his trade and he stayed longer than the Old Mother In Law.
Pity he’s not running as well, as you could double them up and hope for a good lift from a lovely pair of Knockers.

Knock hill, was it trained by John Webber Steve?
As VTC said, he was trained by John Webber.
My Uncle reckoned Knock Hill might win a National one day but sadly for him it was The Midlands National and about a year after he passed away relatively young due to a heart attack.
I didn’t keep faith with the horse but he won the Midlands National aged twelve and the 4 mile race at Cheltenham, aged thirteen in 1989, when I was all over my old pal The Langholm Dyer, who was third at 3/1F.
It’s funny how some horses stick in your mind and Peaty Sandy was another of my favourites back then. An old cuddy but never forgotten.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Selection,; Rule the world 25/1 e/w.
As you know Gord I love this horse but do you think three miles is really what he wants? I just don’t think he stays strongly enough for an RSA. He tanked through the World Hurdle last year before weakening and he showed plenty of speed when second in a Neptune. I think a strongly run two and half miles will see the best of him and as such would have him in the JLT. The problem is there’s such a talented bunch of novice chasers around, and the JLT could easily be the strongest race of the lot.
January 9, 2015 at 17:21 #500889VTC Im all over
Sybarite
at 20/1 for the Pertemps too,his last run was eyecatching to say the least.
Steve,do you remember ‘Tartan Trader’,Tartan tailor; etc too, they were owned by the ‘Edinburgh Woolen Mill’ too.
Tommy,We’re in the ‘Sir des champs’ situation all over again withRule the world
but I’m positive a world hurdle horse can be an RSA one as the pace is slower over fences!
January 9, 2015 at 20:25 #500913One of my favourites growing up Steve, was great when he won The Eider, and his bizarre run in the 86 Scottish National sticks in the mind.
January 9, 2015 at 22:37 #500932Coral cup 21/2m
I’m waiting to get a price on
Get me out of here
for this, for some strange reason he’s not been quoted in any lists and yet I’d make him a 10/1 shot now.I’m reliably informed he’s in good order so I’ll just sit and wait, patience is critical at this game.I will say ‘Bayan’ the current fav is now in the grip of the handicapper so cant put him up for Ante-Post purposes,’Activial’ is the dark horse here at 14/1.
Selection,; Get Me Out Of Here.
January 9, 2015 at 22:44 #500934Champion chase 2m
This has the makings of being the race of the festival particularly if ‘Sire de Grugy’ and ‘Sprinter Sacre’ line up.I have backed
Dodging Bullets
for this at 40/1 and will be dissapointed if he doesn’t place at least,if he gets good ground this fellow will be crowned Champion as he bounces off it.Dangers a plenty, one of whom is ‘Simply Ned’ at 33/1,this is a very athletic horse almost in the ‘Deep Sensation’ mould,he’s a horse I like a lot.
Edit,17/01/15
Dodging Bullets
beats ‘Sprinter Sacre’ today at Ascot.Nickys face tells you he had the most handsome horse ever right for today so I’m happy my fellow will confirm form.Bookmakers react by cutting mine into 4/1.
Edit 07/02/15
,I still see ‘Sire de Grugy’ a bigger threat to my fellow than my fellows own stable companion ‘Mr Mole’.Too many imponderables surround JP’s horse whereas my lads got everything required to win a Champion chase,I’m not panicking about the opposition……Just yet!
Selection,;Dodging Bullets 40/1 e/w and 14/1.
January 9, 2015 at 22:48 #500935Cross Country Chase
Not a race I get too involved in but one horse jumps off the page to me and thats the frustrating
Quantitiveasing
at 8/1,I’ve bought the bloody thing over the years.

Selection,; Quantitiveasing 8/1.
January 9, 2015 at 22:51 #500936Fred Winter hurdle
Another race I dont get too involved with but a tentative vote would go to
Stars over the sea
at 20/1.
Selection,; Stars over the sea 20/1.
January 11, 2015 at 19:50 #501164Champion Bumper 2m
,
I’ve normally got my eye on one for this but sadly not this year, nothing takes my fancy,I’ll probably bet one of the Mullins out-siders on the day and avoid their fancied runner!
January 11, 2015 at 20:03 #501166Day 3,
The Jewson 21/2m ch
Another lucky race for me this and as usual plenty proper ‘Jewson’ sorts,’Saphir du Rheu’ is not a ‘Jewson’ sort so thats that,’Ptit Zig’ has posted the most impressive piece of form and is a worthy 5/1 fav,’Vautour’ is a top class animal too and if he’s as suited to this trip as he is 2m then he too is a player. If I had to put £100 on one now though I’d go with
Valseur Lido
at 6/1 and thats not just because he’s a Gigginstown but I do feel its the race for him.I have backed
Champagne West
at 20’s down for this but he may well avoid his conqueror from their last meeting and go the RSA route, either way Phillip Hobbs has a proper horse on his
hands.Edit,04/02/15
,
Champagne West
is out for the season after injuring himself at Sandown last weekend, thats unfortunate although I wasn’t impressed with him upto the point of departure anyway.Time to find something else for this now.
Selection,;Champagne West 20/1 e/w
