I’m not sure I understand what was wrong with the original threads. I’m not a libertarian and I don’t believe that on a public forum anyone can say whatever they like at all times in all circumstances, nor do I think that Cormack can ignore any legal ramifications or dangers (with regard to libel) but these threads were harmless enough and funny in parts.

Similarly I was baffled when the Daily Mail (who so often complain about people claiming to be ‘offended’) got themselves into a tizz about the Comedy Awards Show when Jonathon Ross told jokes of a similar vein and JK Rowling used a swear word. Seems to me that that particular organ picks and chooses when it wants to be offended.

But I digress, there was nothing in the threads that have been removed that crossed the line, as far as I could see. There have been posters in the past who’s sole purpose here was to see how quickly they could get banned and there have been threads started purely to be as offensive as possible to the majority of people and I have no problem with those being deleted. But Lolly’s Mate is not one of those posters and though I’ve often disagreed with him heatedly, his threads don’t cross the line and almost always bring a lot of traffic to this corner of the forum. We’re all adults, we all know where the line is (and for me, the line is anything that is libellous or simply abusive) and we should be allowed to debate, discuss and disagree with freedom.

See NV. You can see humour in some things

Good to see that you have decided to come out in the open, rather than hide away.

If you are trying to suggest that I objected to either Teddy thread, you are once again wrong. But there we go.

first of all I would like to point out that I havn’t made any complaints about the thread, but I did feel uncomfortable about the way the thread was going – I felt that people were trying to push things as far as they could. I may be a bit hypersensitive as I once nearly lost my job because I made an Irish comment on the spur of the moment that greatly offended someone that I worked with and still feel bad about it to this day, especially as I love going to Ireland and have some really good friends over there]. There’s a fine line between freedom of speech and sensitivity towards peoples beliefs and perhaps it’s sometimes better to err on the side of caution…mo

Again you jump to conclusions NV.

    I made no such comment.

You have made no reply to anything I have posted for, errr, lets say a year.

But here you are dragging up old posts that most of us have forgotten about.

I feel that if you want to go back and find posts that are sooo, old. Then you must be holding a grudge!

GET OVER IT JETHRO!!!! ITS ONLY A FORUM!!!!

    Love you xxxx.

Oh, I know LM – it is only a forum, and these are only words. Truly.

I have been posting on threads of interest to me throughout the past year, including both Teddy threads. Selective memory IS a wonderful thing.

I do not hold any particular grudge against you, but did remember enough about your previous to find your ‘Poor me, branded a racist’ squeal a little rich.

I don’t object to people with an overriding single issue posting about this keenly, but do find it slightly odd that you see The Racing Forum as an appropriate medium for your particular views and commentary. Most people here seem to post about racing from time to time…

    Yours not grudgingly,
    NV

PS: Good luck with your ‘fight’ in Harrow! A truly dangerous place, if ever there was.

I’ve been a moderator on a forum and it’s a thankless task because you can’t please all of the people all of the time. In fact you can’t please all of the people ANY of the time!
There’s no right or wrong in making a decision to delete a thread, everyone has their own idea on where the line lies and whether it’s been crossed or not.

But as Corm’s in charge here and we’re all happy to have him in charge, we have to accept his decisions, and his view of where the line is.

I didn’t see anything wrong with the thread personally, and don’t like threads being pulled. (On which point Corm is way more relaxed than Daylight was).

    "I’m offended" is such a limp-wristed, tight-arsed, small-brained response to life .

The notion that lolly isn’t a racist bigot though is as fanciful as it is tautologous. In fact many would say it’s his best feature…

As the old saying goes (well it’s something like this) –

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it."

Toots. I am not a racist! You can try all the tautologies you like. But I ain’t racist.

    NV.. Whatever!!!!
But why did you feel my "squeal" a little rich?

    Corm.

You are in a no win situation, but if I ever over step the boundries, then tell me so.

Got a good Jewish joke today.

    Bit scared to post it.

If you want it, I’ll pm it to you.

Corm! Can I change my name to PC Dan?

Seeing as though I have gone all liberal now.

I mentioned the risk of Muslims extremists on this forum once, and was called a “Racist bigot”.
I have also mentioned the damage that mass immigration will cause to this county, only to be told that it can only be a good thing!
2 Years on, I think I can say that my point was correct!
Mmmm. This is getting interesting

    Correction lollys mate.

You rattled on and on and on and on about how your beloved Harrow was now festooned with immigrants, and how they were generally ruining the place.

That’s why you were called a racist bigot.

    By me.

Which I retracted about two posts later.

I’m sure you can remember the sequence of events now. 8)

For the record, I did not provide the complaint about the joke/thread which Corm saw fit to delete. In fact, I think it is an over-reaction, and Stavros’ point about the rollocking politcal debates we used to have on here, are valid, imo.

Now add the twatting swear-filter into the equation.

It’s like a Stalinist wonderland in here these days.

Swear filter under review – seems to be a concensus that it’s unnecessary (dunno how ‘twatting’ got through either).

I’ve just typed in lots of swear words Corm and it seems your swear filter is working fine  .

Actually I typed in the name of England’s former national football team manager (the ginger one), so it seems the swear filter agrees that he is a complete and utter [expletive].
