I also think you are playing a dangerous game pulling the “this site is viewed by children” card.
I agree. Why should everything in society be “child friendly”?
Is TRF really looking to expand its userbase by opening its doors to the under 16s?
The lounge tends to be a place to discuss a lot of adult topics such as: politics, war, religion, sex, drugs.
Should our resident Leith dope-head be prevented from mentioning his fondness for “herbal recreation” in case it encourages kids to “experiment”?
Should LM be banned because his support for the BNP could turn impressionable minds towards racism?
And should Kotki be prevented from talking about his lifestyle in case the kiddies think it’s ok to be a worthless fekkin layabout?
Steve

FWIW, I agree with all that too – and most of what Grassy is saying, God help me!!!

What a capital idea.

this may come in useful…and there are some interesting pictures for the boys too…although i should in the interest of the children viewing add the warning that this site isn’t suitable for them, or anyone who is easily offended
July 17, 2007 at 09:38 #108206Good man, Cormack. A positive move for the better, IMO.
There’s enough dumbing-down and crudity on the street with "effing this, and effing that" all the time.
It’s nice to come onto TRF and not be assaulted with the coarseness and crass language that is ubiquitous nowadays in society.
There’s nothing so offensive and off-putting as seeing a thread-title where an expletive is used as an adjectival.
Well done.

When was that? June?
I think you should leave this to the more experienced members, newbie.

Steve
Stop picking on the new guy………..I thought this was meant to be a friendly forum??
July 17, 2007 at 11:27 #108223Poor Grasshopper
…you mustn’t pick on him, it’s not nice.
July 19, 2007 at 15:16 #108556You would if I was allowed to put them in NWRA
July 21, 2007 at 18:43 #108750You shouldn’t have sweary words in your thread titles because it interferes with search engine results for the site, as does bad spelling etc.
July 31, 2007 at 13:08 #4761I’ve just added to a thread in the Sports section, where my use of the word a*r*s*e was censored as an expletive.
I don’t kick-off this topic just to get on Corms jugs (afraid to use the word ‘tits’), but this degree of censorship just seems insane to me.
Again, I don’t propose a free-for-all where every thread is chock-full of industrial language for its own sake, but my experience of TRF is that it has chugged along quite nicely up until now, with swearing usually in context, or at least, used to humourous effect in most cases. I simply don’t see that Admin needs to intervene at all in this regard, let alone to the extent that the colloquial for the posterior is considered beyond the pale.
Corm is the guvnor, of course, and I guess its between him and LRM to decide what’s best for the site. But this apparent level of censorship just seems totally inappropriate and unnecessary. Is it just me?
I’ll know where I stand as far as the site goes, if this thread is ultimately deleted.

Personally I couldn’t give a flying f*u*c*k GH
July 31, 2007 at 13:55 #109843I can give you three points for replying, Drone, but I have to dock two points for you selecting the easy sale.
July 31, 2007 at 17:06 #109879Welcome back GH.
Ars* doesn’t seem too shocking to me – but if the powers that be say don’t use it, then fair enough.
If I went into someone else’s house and they told me not to use a certain word, then I’d abide by it. I might think they were being too sensitive but hey, it’s not my house. Don;’t beat yourself up about it.July 31, 2007 at 17:07 #109880I don’t have a problem with words such as that GH .. I thought the refraining from swearing was more about proper swear words?
July 31, 2007 at 17:36 #109884I have no problem with a no swearing policy, but I had the word b u mper bleeped out the other day, which I thought was a little excessive
July 31, 2007 at 17:41 #109885Welcome back GH.
If I went into someone else’s house and they told me not to use a certain word, then I’d abide by it.Thanks insomniac.
I suppose the above is fair enough, but what if you’ve lived in the house for several years and swore like a sailor the entire time, without causing any expressed offence to anyone at any stage??
Corm has been a member at TRF the whole time I’ve been resident (currently c50 posts
), and use of certain words was never an issue before, or at least, was never expressed as an issue. Why is it a problem only of late?
Again, I agree that we don’t want profanities in thread titles, but this blanket ban seems quite Stalinist in nature, and has been implemented for no good reason that I’ve seen offered (not that Corm or LRM are compelled to provide one, of course).Maybe I’ll start a ‘Beat the Censor" thread, to see what we can smuggle past Corm? That should **** him off good and proper.
July 31, 2007 at 20:14 #109897Sorry GH – I was playing about with the word censor in the wake of the fairly recent spate of very bad language and was perhaps a little over-zealous with my word cull. I’ll tweak later.
Swearing has never been an issue until that short spat which occured a few weeks ago which was verging towards OTT and I know the site is generally, if not exclusively, adult-orientated. However I think it makes sense to bar the obvious foul words (although Drone usefully, if a little crudely, exposed the limitations of any attempt at censorship).July 31, 2007 at 20:15 #109898I thought you’d joined the taliban or something ..
